Oh My God news
« on: April 18, 2001, 03:31:38 PM »
you guys may not believe the info in this message. i actually hope you don't cause it will help me out.but i have been fortunate enough to hear some of dre and rakims new songs and they are nothing short of incredible.. i thought dre and snoop were untouchable as a duo but i think dre and rakim are even better. and there are no time constraints like dre and snoop had on doggystyle. on doggystyle, from the intro to whats my name dre and snoop had been able to take their time and put their best foot forward. however the remainder of the album, except for doggy dogg world had to be rushed to beat the deadline. with a 4 day spree of teamwork between dre, snoop, daz and warren g they finished up the album so it could be released in november of 93. Oh My God has no set deadline, cause it is not as hyped as doggystyle was. therefore, dre and rakim have really been taking their time and trying to top every track with a better one. some of the songs that go unused could fillout an entire album and be great.but dre and rakim aren't working to be great.they want terms like classic and legendary to be applied. as for rakim it is business and personal.he is pissed that he rarely gets mentioned as a top mc of all time these days. when hes rappin the mike smokes and when he's done the mike is charred. the words "atomic bomb" could be applied to some of the songs that have been recorded. summer is the goal for release but that may be a little unrealistic . dre is a perfectionist and will take whatever time is needed.  premo should be in to put in work in the next couple of weeks and MEl-man has been working with ra when dres doin other stuff. dre wants this to be his best album ever and to date they are on track. dre splits time with this and his other projects.this helps because dre can sit back and evaluate what going on. this allows him to rethink, tinker and change some things. even though i have hyped this up i urge you to keep your expectations reasonable and even better, low.if you expect too much no artist or musician can live up to those expectations.and be patient. the wait WILL be worth it. peace and funky'all, all y'all.

just a few quick comments in regards to the replies in this message. first of all i never compared oh my god to doggystyle. i talked about the rakim and dre duo maybe being better than the dre-snoop duo. doggystyle was 8 years ago and oh my god is now.the production and delivery are way different. doggystyle was a classic but it was not even close to what it could have been. they had to produce half the album in a few days. dre never got the chance to take his time and finish it the way he wanted. if doggystyle wasn't rushed by the record companies to get out then dre and snoop would have been able to make it even better. but the released product stands on its own and is definetly a hiphop classic. plus you must withhold all judgements until oh my god is released. i won't ever compare doggystyle to oh my god cause they are from different times and the albums are much different. but based on what ive heard oh my god is going to be amazing and the dre and rakim duo may rank as one of the dopest duos ever heard together on an lp.
to the dude who has never heard of rakim...no disrespect but if you don't know who rakim is i feel sorry for you.but go to a cd place online or a recordstore and order/buy Rakim's 18th letter/book of life double cd and eric b and rakims paid in full albums. you will hear in my opinion the greatest mc ever in terms of vocals, delivery, intelligence and rhyming skills. rakim didn't touch people like tupac but his skills overall are arguably better.
and as far as where i heard the dre/rakim songs. the answer is that i heard them in the only place they can be heard and you can't find it anywhere online. you'll hear them soon enough. peace.
