Riquelme flattered by Real Madrid talk

Real Madrid are considering Villarreal midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme as Zinedine Zidane's long-term replacement.

Real vice-president Emilio Butragueno and technical chief Ramon Martinez are considering options to replace Zidane, who may quit the game after this year's World Cup.

Riquelme heads Real's shortlist so far, though as yet no contact has been made with Villarreal. Real won't consider any summer signings until president Florentino Perez has settled on his coach for next season.

Riquelme turns 28 this year and his contract carries a buyout clause of £40 million.

"The only thing that I can say is that it makes me happy to hear of the interest of Real Madrid," said Riquelme. "I'm very happy that a club like Madrid is interested in me.

'"We are speaking of a great club and it is always flattering they pay attention to you, because that means I must be doing good things at Villarreal."

I really hope Zidane quits after the world cup. And Riquelme is not gonna be his replacement, that's for sure.

Amazing player, best playmaker in the world for me, can't see how he's fit into Real's team though, considering they already have Cassano and Baptista who play off of the main strikers.

I am not sure Baptista is gonna be in Real next year. He has done NOTHING this season so far, and he's on the starting eleven every week. I got love for dude, I think he's a great player, but if he doesn't make an incredible 2nd half of the season, he's gonna be out.

that´s what sucks about a club like Real Madrid coz they won´t give the players and chance to get to know how one another works on the pitch. if the owners and their fans would have some patience then Real could have a great team but if their not playin so well 1 game they´ll make dumb fuck changes and other dumb shit.

I agree. But when you're playing for the best club, you gotta be the best. If you fuck up, somebody's gonna take your place. No patience. Real Madrid is too big to have patience. It can't spend 5 years fucking shit up and trying to build a team like Barcelona has done. Real's gotta win ALWAYS. And when things get ugly, they'll try to handle it somehow, on the fly, but not giving up three years to start from scratch.

When Mexico played Argentina in the Confederations Cup, Riquelme basically put down Mexico's effort in the game saying that thank god they won in penalties because it would have been tragic if they lost in penalties, since they "clearly played better" than Mexico  ::)  .  And that wasnt the case at all
