« on: January 12, 2006, 06:34:55 PM »
What are some west coast songs that were released as singles that you thought were going to blow up but didn't? A few of mine...

Xzibit "Get Your Walk On"
The Game "Put You On The Game"

I really don't understand how those songs wren't big hits....

Hmmm, Real American actually talks about music for a change.  I was beginning to think you gave a fuck about the music and were just here to debate with people over politics.

Anyway, I didn't really think "Put You On The Game" really had much potential to be a hit (it's quite possibly the most annoying Timbo beat I've ever heard)...Game should've released "Higher" or "Where I'm From" as singles instead, IMO.

"You Know How We Do It" didn't blow up?  I remember seeing the video on MTV quite regularly back in '94.  It wasn't as big a hit as "It Was A Good Day", but it was still quite popular - these were the days when the public's craving for G-Funk was starting to warm up, so a lot of major label rappers adapting the G-Funk template (even wack ones) were doing well.

And with "G'd Up" - I dunno how well it did, but the album went Platinum, so it must have blown up in at least a handful of significant markets (certainly, amongst Snoop fans).

LMAO....You know how we do it was a major hit then, and shit it still gets more spins on KDay than most new hits (other than Grills). G'D up blew up a lot too, even outside of LA

Yeah, that's what I figured.  No way Tha Eastsidaz could've gone Platinum otherwise; "G'd Up" would've had to do quite well in other markets.  According to AMG, it hit #2 on the Rap Charts and #47 on the Pop 100.  Not great or anything, but combined with Snoop's fanbase, that pretty much ensured them decent sales...and they got them.
