''Yall get ready...I'm n the stu with dre and @MixedByAli mixing this single...TDE BIZNESS''
- @dangerookipawaa (CEO of TDE)
I sincerely hope we get to hear this soon !! 8)
-
I really hope this is true. At this point i'm not really even expectin' "Detox" to come out. Dre should just focus on Kendrick's music.

Word.
In the past, TDE hasn't really messed with the fans, release date wise, so I could see this happening..

Dope. What makes you say it will be tuesday ?
There's a first time for everything, especially in this case with Dre involved
I know. It's a shame fans have to be SO skeptical and scrutinize everything in detail when Dr. Dre is involved.
I'm a fan of his but goddamn...
-
What ever happened to that duo album with J. Cole? :(
-
Damn this should be crazy
-
Eh. I have a feeling it will be mediocre. I understand the first single out has to have Dre's name attached to it but K. Dot should just stick with his camp for production. Maybe even use Kanye or the Neptunes, if they can make beats like they used to. Dre is just using this to see if he can build a buzz for himself off of what TDE generated themselves.

ROFLMAO

Not giving a fuck about this ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ....K Dot is not grabbing my attention by any means ....
-
"Setting a date for mastering". Even the great mastering engineers master tracks very quickly. And when we're talking about tracks mixed by Dr.Dre (if indeed he did do the mixing), very little needs to be done in the mastering phase. So unless they want a specific mastering engineer who happens to be totally booked, then this should not delay the release much.

ROFLMAO

This should be good but will probably be a disappointment

wish kendrick woulda stood by his words n took dre wrist n broke it...

-
way ot i know, but whatever happened with nipsey's big announcement that was supposedly gonna be him signing to MMG?
It ended up being some nonsense of a deal he worked out with DJ Skee..
-
DJ Skee? Lol. Thanks for the info.
-
just saw his show in SF. He killed it, great show more crowded than games show at the regency. Had the crowds energy for sure.
Hiii Power
-
wish kendrick woulda stood by his words n took dre wrist n broke it...
He never took no hand out though, he signed after he built his buzz and got a feature on one of the biggest albums of last year. Plus he brought his crew with him, not too bad. Now Dre's gonna take him to the next level, and Kendricks gonna help put Dre back on the map. This is what we hope anyway lol
-
KENDRICK LAMAR SINGLE INFO : I WILL HAVE MY SECURITY TAKE IT 2 BERNIE GRUNDMANS ON FRIDAY 2 HAVE IT MASTERED....ITS UNDER LOCK N KEY...TDE
-@Dangerookipawaa
I guess there's a possibility that the single drops friday or over the weekend...
-
lol bernie grundman that's way big! I grew up seeing that name in liner note's homie's. I can't wait to hear all the new TDE/Aftermath Ent. Music.
-
^^^
lol doubt man, imagine how rich he is, dudes mastered ALOT of albums (alot of them classics).
-
^^^
lol doubt man, imagine how rich he is, dudes mastered ALOT of albums (alot of them classics).
No doubt !
Dude mastered albums for Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Lionel Richie, Carlos Santana, Joe Satriani, En Vogue, Al Green, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, N.W.A, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Mariah and the list goes on... :o
Check this out : http://www.berniegrundmanmastering.com/engineers/grund_disc.html
-
haha, if ur hyped for a record, cuz of a mastering-credit, u kno its gon be big
-
;D . No doubt. I am quite curious to see what this will sound like.
-
Lol its like Bernie would make it sound like the Chronic. ;D
U do know the the whole process BEFORE mastering is a bit more important. He did the Doggystyle Allstars CD (for example), and that just sounds like any other album done in the 2000's.
-
lol yeah thats true, another example is that wideawake snoop release, his mastering couldnt do shit for that awfully mixed Doggystyle track :-\ but overall this has gotta be good news if its being sent to him already 8)
-
Can t fuckin wait!
-
once its mastered that's usually go time to the radio, could anyone see kendricks debut album dropping in the next 6 months on interscope? His buzz is at the highest its ever been. A banger that catches mainstream might do it for kendrick.
-
If this single creates huge buzz then we have a chance to hear Kendrick release under Aftermath.
-
wish kendrick woulda stood by his words n took dre wrist n broke it...
Yeah. I don't know what else Dre can do for this kid. He built his own buzz and decides to get the "machine" to back him? Why not continue to do what was already working? Hopefully Dre will allow Kendrick to create the music he's been doing.
-
Kendrick Lamar is not there yet
maybe in 2 years,
hes spitting
but his image is not there
if he dropped now, hes not commercial enough
the new song with Game is cool, but the kid has alot of hype, and i dont know one hit song hes made,
other than cool verses, his music is not there yet,
i was one of his biggest supporters at first, but i guess i expect more/ rigamortis to me actually was mediocre,
-
He killed that Staircases joint, looking forward to hearing him over more Neptunes joints
-
;D . No doubt. I am quite curious to see what this will sound like.
-
April 2nd, The Recipe.

but could u imagine if son actually waited 2 years to drop an album and try 2 re-muster up all of the energy and awareness he's got now? he'd most likely bottom out quickly like most other artists who have a haitus and try 2 comeback.

Props for the info X!

Im not a big Kendrick Lamar fan but im not understanding why people complain about the way he formats his song. So what if all his songs are long verses, thats his style. If not following typical 16-4-16-4-16-4 formats is what it takes for him to make dope shit then sobeit.
The problem is you guys all want him to be more traditional so hes more marketable. We already have plenty of gangsta rappers (Game, Nipsey, Jay Rock) just like we used to have Dre, Cube Snoop. But we also need artist like Kendrick just like we needed artst like Souls of Mischief.

mixed by dre though :)

they announce it as a dre produced single but it turns out it's false, deja vu?
nice beat actually. dre's flow is annoying again, hook sucks. the rest of kendrick's input isn't bad, but not good either
-
Interview??? Has anybody listen the Interview after the Track ??? what are they speak ??? any News,Kendricks Album,Detox???
-
Beat is sick ... Dre and Kendrick went nice .... Dope song to me 8)

beat is pretty dope and chilled 8) but i'm not sold on the rest of the track, particularly dre's rapping...he doesn't sound natural with kendrick's writing at all.

-
Like many of you, I was expecting something ''else''... but honestly I'm glad the beat sounds like this... Kendrick stayed true to his style.
Matty, can you spot those Dre touches in there ? :D
-
Nice summertime feel to the track. I can't say I've ever heard Dr. Dre rapping to a beat like this before.
-
Certainly, they both come correct, Dre sounds dope to me, Kendirck's style is true & absolute.
straight fiiiire!!!! :o 8)
-
OK.
stop the presses.
this shit is ridiculous.
this record is gonna be a huge problem.
fire.
-
Loving this. The thing I dig the most is that they stayed in Kendrick's lane. He would sound mad awkward on a beat like In Da Club or How We Do for example.
And Dre sounds great. Best in years. And the direction of his verse is also on point, with Slim writing it was to g'd up for a 50 year old, with Em it was just childish. This shit right here is golden.
-
We all know Dre doesn't write his rhymes...thats old news... what we do know is that this is the best he has sounded rapping in a long fucking time.
-
cant fault this 1 its great! nice summer vibe too 8)
-

Dre needs to get 15 tracks like this n call it Detox!
-
Not feelin' this. I don't like the beat at all.
-
I have a feeling this will grow on a lot of people. To me this is hot out the gate. Dre sounds better than he has in the past 2 years.
-
Damn, love this beat. Love the verses as well. Only thing I'm not feeling is the chorus.
-
whats the point of featuring Dr Dre if your gonna write dre's verse? Just for the name he brings?
I think the song is dope and kendricks verses are dope, even if dre raps over it. This song can be better without dre rapping kendrick style, I would like to hear a solo verion of this. great song.
-
this is really fuckin dope
-
Damn, love this beat. Love the verses as well. Only thing I'm not feeling is the chorus.
Feel exactly the same.
-
It's defently a Summer Hit. Dre and Kendrick brings the Heat,''Woman,Weed and Weather''' California Vibe !
-
This song is a problem. Needs to be promoted properly. Dre's verses are ehh, his accents taking away from the lyrics a bit. But that bassline is DEAD ON. Scoop is becoming the go to guy for summer bangers.
-
i love it

Good song. I don't like how Dre is still overpronouncing his vowels. I guess it made sense for a club song like Chillin but here?

found the lyrics on a other side this is the real Westcoast shit that we love!
Kendrick Lamar – The Recipe Lyrics
[Sample: Twin Sister - "Meet The Frownies"]
Smoking weed with you…
[Dr Dre]
Every morning when I wake up
Uh, money on my mind
Good times and get caked up
Sunshine coming through my blinds, I’m living but
Really though, it’s never enough
10 milly on, that’s a must
Living in California, everybody wanna visit for…
[Hook]
Women, weed and weather
They come for
women, weed and weather
for the women, weed and weather
From all around the world for the
women, weed and weather
women, weed and weather
These niggas’ll kill for that
Put it in your grill for that
Still everybody gotta build for that
Me, I make mills off that
How the fuck can’t ya’ll see I ride
When I drive, down the block and you look outside
H-A-T-E in your eyes
I enter big money for the enterprise
It’s a beautiful day I guess
For a bitch to roll with Andre I guess
Roll it up, baby gon lift that dress
Then roll it up for me when I’m stressed
[Kendrick Lamar]
You might catch me in Atlanta looking like a boss
New Orleans and then Miami
Party in New York
Texas I be screwed up, chi town I be really pimpin’
But nothing like my hometown I’m forever living
[Hook]
Women, weed and weather
They come for
women, weed and weather
for the women, weed and weather
From all around the world for the
women, weed and weather
Got that women, weed and weather
Yo, it sound clever, come and play
Wh-what more can I say
Welcome to LA
[Kendrick Lamar - Verse 2]
My nigga said he wanna fly out to get him some
3W’s only for a three day run
Bitch, take the muthaf-cking panties off you aint no nun, shit
I be living in the sky every time I ride by them hoes
Ribbon in the sky on the radio cause Stevie know I control
Let it breath
I control, California living til I am old
You want to be one, to peak on the chart
So the peons can be gone and pee on their hearts
She in the coupe cause she in the neon
Cause she on the BS before we can start
Fuck with a nigga, ride with a nigga
Let ‘em know the priority order me
Hennessy, and for my niggas OG Killa
Call it Jason Vorhees, boy he,
On his job, boy he sure be havin’ them marks on they marks
Pretty bitches and tyre marks
Let ‘em inhale the pipe exhausts
Let ‘em reveal how much it cost
For this life controlling my vice
No way hell no, uh uh
If I’m wrong than I wanna be right
You want to be one, to peak on the chart
Sso the peons can be gone and pee on their hearts
Women, weed, weather, it’s not my fault that its 82 degrees
and my top peeled off
You might catch me in Atlanta looking like a boss
New Orleans and then Miami
Party in New York
Texas I be screwed up, chi town I be really pimpin’
But nothing like my hometown I’m forever living
[Hook]
[Dr Dre - Verse 3]
Known for that homegrown where I come from
Smoke one, palm trees
Double D’s got ‘em topless in the sun
I shall proceed, that’s me, muthafuck your opinion
How many ways am I killin’ ‘em
Shit, right around a billion
We on it, that mean we living for the moment
That mean she’ll fuck til the morning
Time and I got time and I know that I’m in a position of controlling anything
I buy that ocean, I’mma boss I’ll buy that ocean
Aint nobody fucking with this
[Kendrick Lamar]
They want that shit, they off your
I give it to ‘em but in between, my time
I gotta tie shoestrings
Life’s a trip when you want these things
I often slip and then I lean towards 3 W’s and life
You know blow job need an application
Eating pussy make appetite
And yeah my type, I like ‘em brown
Just like my drink, the fuck you think
I don’t fuck wit’ no hand me downs
See if you fuck than its after me
You know how much I’mma make it work?
You know her dress, her purse
When you discussed your love for lust
Just make sure you visit here first
Cali
You might catch me in Atlanta looking like a boss
New Orleans and then Miami
Party in New York
Texas I be screwed up, chi town I be really pimpin’
But nothing like my hometown I’m forever living
[Hook]

This is tight! They took it back to the 2000's!
-
found the lyrics on a other side this is the real Westcoast shit that we love!
Son this type of music has been around forever and most of you have never even listened to it, much less called it "real westcoast shit". It's always been seen as that weird backpacker shit that wasn't gangsta enough. It took Dre cosigning this dude and being featured in a song for people to give it a chance.
-
i also got flashbacks to chillin' hearing dre's raps...he definitely sounded better on other tracks recently, like the one with slim the mobster. for kendrick its part of his style, but it doesn't suit dre very well at all. as a couple of others said, the track would be better without dre altogether.
beat wise, game's 'the ocean' comes to mind, but this is a lot fuller and complete, bumps nice enough 8)
-
cant fault this 1 its great! nice summer vibe too 8)
Dre needs to get 15 tracks like this n call it Detox!
co-sign!
this shit is fire for real, that's that REAL west coast music. Smooth and funky keys, banging drums, bassline just to support the vibe - nice!
Kendrick did some nice job on the writing, he didn't lose his track and style, he kept this shit true to himself, the beat suits him so much. This is also Dre's best job in the mic for years imo. I hope he won't try to push Kendrick in a different and more poppy direction, let this guy stay with his camp, add some Dre flavor and experience with the mixing and Kendrick's album gonna be shittin all over Detox. This track right here is a good indication.
I'm gonna have this on heavy rotation for the summer.
-
Dope ass track thats for real.

Dope cut. 96 and this went double platinum on cassette alone.
Anyway, it's a banger, but the problems with fans now a days is all wanna be a a critic instead of a fan, or not.
Sheesh, could some of y'all just either play a song or just don't? it' snot that serious. always something extra.
-
Good Track, I like this and will bump it well.
After 3 spins, I know it will def grow on me.
What made the song for me is the intro and how Dre delivered the first verse.
Well Done Kendrick for finally getting Dre / Aftermath to release a proper tune!

This is definitely a dope track, I'm not a big Kendrick fan, but at least he seems to be bringing Dre back to actual hip-hop
with some proper rapping and a proper hard chilled beat, etc.

FIRE! thanks for posting.

This is not really my cup of tea at all, but I'm not a Kendrick fan for the reason I don't like this song -- his writing is too sped up and reminiscent of Andre 3000 in its tempo and so forth. I came up on G-Funk, that laid back true Westcoast stuff, and this is too nervous-sounding. Now, I understand why someone would like this if this is your rapping style as a listener, I mean it's not garbage, but it just isn't for me.
Does Kendrick have anything with a sort of normal delivery and a normal Westcoast song? Something that I can listen to without having to be bothered by the sorts of eccentricities on display here? The beat is good, and I like the engineering and the vocal deliveries are precise enough and all that (granted, I think Dre's voice doesn't sound like it used to, probably because he's old now, to be honest with you). But the flows are too quirky and herky-jerky for me to just vibe to and get lost in the song. They sound like Southern rappers. But then again that's why generally I don't like Kendrick in the first place. He's got too much of the South's eccentricities for me -- the bad ones. Just imo. The song's good, but personally I don't like listening to this kind of rap. But I'll be the first to admit I might be too stuck in the 90s. :-\
-
its a decent track, the beat is nice & simple, i guess its the new sound these days :D
-
I'm just glad it came out haha
-
Not feelin' this. I don't like the beat at all.
the BEAT is PHAT, it's loud as fuck & KNOCKS hard, imho.
with DRE & Kendrick doing their things on this song it has the right Recipe together for possible hope of DETOX appearing wildly & magickally!
or at the very least Kendrick dropping on the math... :D
-
Been bumpin this all day. Fuckin sick.

yeah the beat is dope, very clear and thumping. dre mix, summery vibe. but i'd rather be hearing his own beats, i'm sure there's material with much more interesting sounds than this.

great analysis, i get the southern thing. i think this tune coulda been a lot better if the vocals were on a more relaxed vibe, i mean the beat is pretty tropical and all.
-
Many good points brought up about the artists and what is good and what's to be desired... but overall you have to admit it comes down to.....
Dope track.
-
Crap as always from Dr.Dre since 2005. Boring track
-
this song is dope as fuck, straight up!
-
Not feelin' this.
yeah the beat is dope, very clear and thumping. dre mix, summery vibe. but i'd rather be hearing his own beats, i'm sure there's material with much more interesting sounds than this.
there's no doubt about that. ;D
-
We got this right now. The west has the rap game in a choke hold! So many sick dudes right now in the west, it's really no contest.
-
for real tho, this is a huge co-sign for kendrick, to have dre on an actual single. so regardless of the track the gesture is big. dre was never on singles for like the game, 50. he should do great when the album drops.
-
Dre going to use kendrick to get hot again, that's why he's on the track. Its benefitting to both of them.
-
Dope shit, when the pizzi sounds come in and the synth effect on the hook. Dre rapping like kendrick kind of threw me off but after a few listens it grew on me, I mean a whole album of this type of music would be dope, hell of a step up from that crappy ass I need a doctor song.
-
OK.
stop the presses.
this shit is ridiculous.
this record is gonna be a huge problem.
fire.
-
Yawn.....This is bland ....Has ZERO wow factor and is faaaaar from the classic stuff they are capable.....Bishop Lamont - Grow Up >>>>>>>>>>> This cut here .
-
This is smooth as fuck. Dope as fuck. Get outta here, kids.
-
dope track 8)
Dre's mix game is on point but I guess he retired from producing
-
Kind of reminds me of the 'Ocean' track by Game but much better.
-
Song is ok. Wish Dre wasn't on it. He brings nothing to this track but star power. Makes it sound like a Dr. Dre song and not a K. Dot song. But from a commercial stand point, it makes sense. I would have rather seen Schoolboy Q flow over this with K. Dot.
-
dope i like it 8)

i'm surprised how many of you like dre's performance, i think he should quit if he keeps rapping like this.
eminem's writings for dre may be average lately, but at least the flow is better

i don't think so. otherwise detox would have been out after the last single became a hit

great great record
-
Dre flow has been pretty bad for a while ... and each time he imitates the flow of the rapper who ghostwrites his verse , it's a fail , sounds forced

I totally agree. Its the only thing i don't really like about this track

dope smooth song hers a nice video to go with it

I hate the way Dr. Dre sounds on this.
-
This just isn't it... Sorry, but I had like great exceptation for this but...

far from blown away by this :-\
-
I hate the way Dr. Dre sounds on this.
Personally I'm impressed with his flow.
-
i dont know what else you were waiting for? its a first single and its kendrick's song, so its going to be chill and easy for ear
i swear you guys make so much problem out of music instead of enjoying it
-

they should have come with a way better song than this one if they wanted to create a buzz for Kendrick 1st album ... poor way to introduce K Dot to a larger audience ... and by that I don't mean they should have gone pop and completely ignore Kendrick style ... there is nothing great about this song and nothing that makes you anticipate his album more ... Hiiipower and Adhd for instance are just way better songs than this one ...
All this (supposed) time spent in the studio and they couldn't come with a better song than this one ... at least before all the buzz/hype was justified ( 50 , Game, Kanye) , they came with great singles and 1st albums ... nowadays it's dissapointment after dissapointment
-
I hate the way Dr. Dre sounds on this.
Personally I'm impressed with his flow.
Nah, he sounds too much like Kendrick.
-
Well thats your oppinion. Do you really think Hiiipower would be a better single? Maybe for a mixtape only... I personally think its a great song and fits him well.
What song do you want him to come out with? With more wow factor? Nah, thats not how he roll. I always imagined he will come out with similar song like this its just either you like it or not. If you cant find nothing great about this song then maybe its not for you. Theres no way to come out with a song that everybody likes, so if you cant enjoy it, just stop complaining and wait for another one or just listen to other artists
-
I thought the purpose of the forum was to give his opinions ... it's not like I'm crying or something ... and as you said that's only my opinion .. still if you are going to hype a song like they did ( "game changer " ect ... ) you better come with a great song
-

In my opinion this is the perfect fit for Kendrick's first single. He didnt go into his "teaching" and kinda social aware mode but still made a sing that suits him, which is a smooth cali anthem for the summer. It's dropping at the right time. For the first single this is just perfectly nice. I dunno what people expect. The beat is on point and the flows are dope, hook is catchy. It has a nice feelgood vibe. The serious shit will be on the album and I guess the 2nd single will go in a different direction anyway. People always yearn for west coast anthems and when one drops they hate on it, lol.
-
Well Done Kendrick for finally getting Dre / Aftermath to release a proper tune!
Very nice!
-
Dre flow has been pretty bad for a while ... and each time he imitates the flow of the rapper who ghostwrites his verse , it's a fail , sounds forced

LMAO its comical how much attention this thread is getting because of three words: Feat. Dr. Dre.
-
Nah, he sounds too much like Kendrick.
Kendrick wrote Dre's verse and probably laid down a reference vocal of Dre's part for guidance on how to deliver it. He is trying to sound like Kendrick. I wish he would cut it out. Personally, I want to hear D.O.C. write for Dre, but I know that ain't happening anymore, so...
-
one Day later still Dope !Fire
-
LMAO its comical how much attention this thread is getting because of three words: Feat. Dr. Dre.
And you posted here at least twice already as well, so don't pretend.
Plus I checked here because it's Kendrick's first single I don't really care about Dre, I just hoped he wouldnt fuck his style up, which he didn't so it's nice and helps Kendrick, so I'm all for it.
-
People always yearn for west coast anthems and when one drops they hate on it, lol.
Serious question: What is anthemic about this? What is memorable to the point where live crowds are going to join in and finish the vocals for the artists on stage? The rapping is too fast for that kind of audience involvement, and a real anthemic chorus to me is the type that Treach has excelled at for 20 years -- a call and response chorus. So basically I'm interested in hearing why you feel this is an anthem. Is there a single true Cali pride moment in this track that's going to catch on and become a catch phrase or anything of that sort?
-

Serious answer: The "women, weed and weather" hook is catchy, people can easily sing along. Same goes for the "Welcome to L.A." line in the end of the chorus. It's a real cali anthem, the whole vibe, the hook, it fits. And from the most responses in here I feel proved. I'm pretty damn sure that Kendrick will be rocking the crowd with this one from now on.
-

now that you edited your post: Yes - "women, weed and weather", still. At least I have this shit in my head since yesterday
-
Serious answer: The "women, weed and weather" hook is catchy
Hmmm, on second thought, I agree with you there. That small part where it's like, "Why do people come here?" --- For the women, weed and weather I don't think the song is really centered around that moment enough to catch on real big like that, not like "You down with OPP? Yeah, you know me!" but at least I see your point. IMO, they could have done a better job making that the focal point of the song if that's what they were going for.

No problem, everyone has his own perception and opinion. But since I already read a lotta comments (not only on this page) from people who dig the record and also for the fact this this particular line stuck in my head, I brought this point up. We will see how it's doing in the long run, but for now I'm happy with it and I guess the crowd will appreciate this track on Kendrick gigs.
-
^ how were you the only one thinking about the women weed and weather part as being catchy. That's what kendrick and dre made the damn hook for lol Props to you, I've played it yesterday for a few people and they loved that line plus the welcome to LA. Kendrick knows what he's doing with song writing.
-

But I don't think this track will bring new fans to Kendrick. Look at me -- I'm not a Kendrick fan, and the best part of this song for me is the beat and the engineering. Now, I think the point of this song was to expand Kendrick's audience outside the established hardcore Kendrick fans that he's already got in his back pocket no matter what, to the broader fans of Westcoast music such as myself. They put Dre on this song because the #1 way to get broad Westcoast fan appeal is to feature Dre or Snoop. They're probably hoping this song will get attention from general Westcoast rap listeners before they attempt to branch out further to broad rap fans in general. But I don't think this song accomplishes this stepping stone goal, because imo I'm really only liking the production when I should be drawn into liking Kendrick through this song instead. Case in point: next Kendrick song that doesn't have a Westcoast feature nor a prominent Westcoast producer, if this song right here worked, I would seek it out, but as of right now, I won't. So basically this song failed to bring in me as a new listener of Kendrick's music.

sorry...im not really feeling this one. And im a big fan of Dre and Kendrick...
-
Damn this is dope from the beat to the chorus to the way the last verse switch from Dre to Kendrick
-
the songs dope, i aint trippin, nothing amazing or game changing or someshit like that but the beat is dope, kendrick comes good even though he aint amazing on it or anything.
y'all gay saying dre don't sound natural on this, nigga aint got a ''natural'' spit, homie only ever spits other niggas rhymes and to be honest, it don't sound bad at all. He sounds just as good
as kendrick on it to me, kendrick aint killin this or nothing, both just spittin similar. I kinda like the hook, kinda a retarded hook but its catchy like some lil wayne shit. 'wu-wu'welcome to laaaaaa'
Only thing I would say is that the beat while real smooth is on some midnight music but not club music if y'all feel what im saying. Instrumental is straight dope though still
This def album worthy material

-
Nice track, but Dre trying to sound original/creative with his rapping always makes me lol. It just doesn't fit his style. Dre only sounds cool when Dre sounds like Dre.
-
I really like this song. I wonder where all of this is going to go to from here. I've learned over the years to not get to hype when projects involving Dr. Dre are "in rotation". Out of everything I've heard, right with ICHBY (og), this is the best thing I've heard
-
Cool track. With or without Dre vocals, it would be straight.
-
Nah, he sounds too much like Kendrick.

Kendrick raps Dre's part and then Dre learns it and re-records it. That's how it goes. It's always been like that with Dr. Dre, he isn't an MC.
-
THIS TRACK IS BANGIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8)
-
Not that Kendrick was smoking on the mic', but the song was better off as a Kendrick solo.
Dre's unmemorable ghost-written raps sounding choke-forced again.
Cant fault Scoop Deville's work on this.
-
I haven't even read one post in this entire thread, all I know is this song is dope 8)
I'll smoke and ride to this
-
And Dre sounds great. Best in years. And the direction of his verse is also on point, with Slim writing it was to g'd up for a 50 year old
True
with Em it was just childish.
Thank you!! My God, I don't see how people don't see that, everything he writes for Dre is trash or blan attempts at making Dre sound too old school (6'4 impalas, chronic, L.A., blah blah blah). Em just about ruined the final version of "Shit Popped Off" with that wack ass "im about to do somethin tragical / this bologna is so thelonious" trash
-

IMO there's nothing wrong with Dre's rapping on this track

Well, to be honest, I think when it comes to Dre and Snoop I wouldn't say people on this board are too happy about anything those guys have dropped in the last couple o' years. Mostly, when new shit of one of those two guys drops it's so much critique in the air. The last song most people on here really appreciated was "Kush" and that "Gangbang Rookie" cut from the last Snoop solo. The rest has been under so harsh criticism, I don't even wanna argue about. But still, big props to you, because you really try to keep a real discussion going and try to make a point but at the same time trying to actually think about the point other guys on here make.
@LyRiCaL_G: yes, that's how I feel about it for the most part as well. Well put.
@Spice 2: Am I not posting in the latest Knedrick related threads either? I mean you can go ahead an try to quote me, but I think I was attenting to most of the latest Kendrick related threads. If not, I gotta work on that ;)

about 6 spins and shit is smooth, that sample is ridiculous.
-
Fire. Enough said.
-
I was not overwhelmed by the song, but i was not completely disappointed either. I think they should have gone with something more energetic and that featured Kendrick more. This song is a cool filler track on an album, but not a FIRST major single for an up and coming artist who was just signed by Dr. Dre. Hopefully, Dre lets Kendrick do his thing with the TDE in-house production team (Sounwave, Mixed By Ali, etc).
-
This track is still getting a lot of burn. Track is definitely in Kendrick's lane which is dope, he does't make hype club music so I'm glad they haven't tried to bring him in that direction
-
I think some of us are at risk of over-analysing here at the expense of liking this track for what it is.
Granted, we are all music geeks to some degree by virtue of the fact that we are on a music forum discussing the ins and outs of west-coast rap, but still, when you have people debating the nature of Dr. Dre's word pronunciation or a certain part of the chorus I think it can get a bit too much and detract from the fact that this is a bumpable track, nothing more and nothing less.
I realise that this happens mostly when Dr. Dre releases something new, and I am guilty of this myself sometimes, but it can take away from the enjoyment of the music.
-
didnt really feel this after first listen, but it has grown up on me in a major way
now they must shoot sunny video in Compton
-
Dope
-
hopefully they make a Video for it,for more marketing International, Dope Track

This is a great record. Been on repeat (literally) since it dropped.

yeah it's embarrassing
-
Kendrick got murdered on his own track by the pshycoanalasys of MC Dre's rapping skills

I think the track sounds pretty fucking dope. People are going into these records with these massive expectations but it is what it is. I'm sure when a lot of people heard "2001", they were complaining because it wasn't "The Chronic". I know when Game's shit came out and "How We Do" dropped as the first single (I believe it was called "Fresh 86" or something), the same people were saying how it was bland and nothing special. Same deal with "Grow Up".
And something is definitely up with Dr. Dre. I get the vibe he's nervous to put his name on these records. Like all these records seem to end up not having him on the production credits in the end.
-

Well, I'm guilty of that because back in 1999 and still even now I don't think 2001 is close to the masterpiece that is The Chronic. But I consider The Chronic the greatest rap album of all time, so it was pretty much impossible for Dre to repeat that accomplishment. I like 2001 and have bumped it innumerable times, but it's not The Chronic (or Doggystyle, for that matter).
Same deal with "Grow Up".
I always liked Grow Up, and imo Bishop was a better prospect than Kendrick, just imo. The two youngsters on the West I liked recently were Bishop and Dom Kennedy, and Bishop seems to have lost the machinery to push his music out, so now all my hopes are on Dom to get a deal on a major, and, more importantly, not to switch up his style. Just keep it as is and I'll be there on release day.

I dig this... even doc sounds good on it

Well what I'm driving at Myth is you really can't hand someone music and have them judge it with the idea of it being the best record ever or even "groundbreaking". Especially if your first time hearing it is through a download link on your computer. I mean, every now and again, I'll listen to a song for the first time and think, "Damn! This is exactly the kind of music I was looking for right now" but the opposite can be true. Plenty of dope music I passed on the first time I heard it. Comparing a song you've loved for 15 years with one you haven't even known for 15 minutes is always gonna end in dissapointment.
-
hopefully they make a Video for it,for more marketing International, Dope Track

This track is fucking smooth. Women Weed & Weather.....Fuckin crazy.

Hmmm, this is a good point, and I've never thought about it like that, so I see what you're saying. You're saying we gotta give new music ample to time digest and let it marinate in our ear drums and so forth. On that point, though, we're in here judging new music while it's still new. I mean, if we go and make an album review thread for Daz's RR&GB right now, I'm sure people would be like " ??? You waited 15 years on this album before judging it because you wanted to be fair to it????" ;D
-
Kendrick got murdered on his own track by the pshycoanalasys of MC Dre's rapping skills
anticipointment
-
If you want to make a dope song suck just feature Dr. Dre. Dubcc will do the rest.
-
This track really bangs. Been on repeat. Cant wait for Kendrick's album and hopefully Detox will follow. Who knows ?
-
I wouldn't complain if detox sounded like this. Beat is so chilled and perfectly mixed, its a great laidback song to smoke to.
The only thing that bothers me about this is that, from what i've read on the internet, kendrick lamar doesn't smoke weed. So its a bit like he "sold his soul" for money and fame unlike bishop lamont for exemple. Whose single "grow up" was obviously not appreciated by interscope because it didn't glorify violence and drugs.
I don't blame kendrick for doing his thing and i love the track, but at the end of the day who gives the green light for pushing a single ? Definitly not the artists...
I 'm not saying that kendrick is a illuminati agent trying to brainwash the youth by promoting the use of illegal drugs. That would be totally stupid and paranoid.
But without going too far, it's safe to say that the global messages and themes pushed by rappers are consciensly chosen by the elites consisting of label executives etc...
So i just think it's a bit "sad", for lack of a better word, that kendrick had to follow that direction, especially if he doesn't even smoke.

While I don't know enough about Kendrick Lamar to disagree or agree with what you're saying, I like that you are taking a more realistic approach then all these "Oh! It's the Illuminati destorying hip-hop" folks.

On his track "H.O.C." he's telling the story why he doesn't smoke weed. But you don't have to take every track of Kendrick as him talking about him personally. As he did with Section.80, he speaks from the point of view of a whole generation. It's not the first time he rapped about weed and this track right here is more meant like an anthem for the folks in los angeles and therefore you gotta mention weed since the west coast is famous for it. He is not really talking from his personal perspective on this song, more from a general one, you know?

This shit flopped hard ! Ain't noboby talking about this shit east of Arizona ..... Gotta do better if u want sales than just having it played on your local radio station .

As much as I was hoping this track would push Dre to release Detox, this track has absolutely no buzz and can't even crack the top 10 on the Itunes hip hop/rap charts let alone the overall charts. I think Kendrick and Dre have chemistry on this song, but the track is weak. Dre needs to stop messing around and take ownership of his tracks by producing them properly again or hang it up.

they must put the official Video out ,for bertter marketing ,and go with it International!!

Lol at no buzz, track has over 38,000 plays on hiphopdx alone, I'd say it's doing alright. Ya'll called "I Need A Doctor" a flop and that shit went double platinum ::)

I think so too,on April 10-13 the Track goes International on all Amazon stores

lmao at people expecting a Kendrick Lamar single to be as successful as a Detox single feat. Eminem. He's an independent rapper with no major backing. At best its going to do similar to Hiiipower.
-
This is a great record. Been on repeat (literally) since it dropped.

WTF? Lmao @ independent rapper with no backing. He's signed to aftermath, that's about as far away from independent as you can get.And he's been signed for a while even though it was just announced. It wasn't an accident he was on games album.
-
KEEP IT ACTIVE KENDRICK.... WE BUMPING THAT SHIT............ DEEEETOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!! 8)
-
Kendrick is not an independent artist anymore - if you look up his track on iTunes the label is "Aftermath/Interscope" - he's got majors backing him now.
-
its a real dope track! Scoop Deville drop a fuckin good chillin' beat! This track needs a good video

songs been getting alot of play! the weathers starting to get nicer! they dropped this just in time....
-
I prefer Dre's verses to Kendrick's. Kendrick's first verse seems to be about nothing in particular.
Also noticed that Scoop seems to like using repetitive vocal samples - remember Those Gurlz from Ego Trippin?

-
Any CDs pressed for this? How bout the instrumental too...be dope to hear
-
Whoever saying this track flopped is crazy, it just got released its by a relatively new artist it takes time for it to catch a baton wide buzz but yet it's the top single on iTunes last week, this song will only continue to grow snd get bigger, Espesially after a video drops it will get even more attention, Kendricks album will be the best album of the year, Kendrick never disappoints and of aftermath promotes it right it can do some serious numbers
-
A lot of posters here live in a bubble. Of course it's gonna sell well.

LOL completely forgot about that. Aftermath means so little these days it skipped my mind.

good looking out on that intrumental
-
Well now that's it been out for a while & I've bumped it consistently, I can say confidently there is no replay value here. It was a real nice cut, but it just dies off.
-
it's actually grown here quite a lot...but i still prefer the chilled instrumental over what's going on in the vocals...dre's first verse is fine, but his adlib on the hook and second verse aint so cool.
-
I'm still bumping. Not some smash hit or something but a hot song.
