Saw this at hiphopdx.com.
"Dr. Dre comes in fifth on Forbes' prestigious list.
Dr. Dre is the only Hip Hop artist to make this year's Highest-Paid Celebrities list, according to Forbes (via HHNM).
With Oprah Winfrey coming in at number one, the West Coast veteran comes in fifth on the list with a staggering $110 million in earnings. Dre netted that amount when handset maker HTC paid $300 million for a 51 percent stake in his Beats by Dr. Dre company last August. He also made money from music and royalties, but that "pales" in comparison to the money made from his Beats deal.
Other celebs on the list include producer Jerry Bruckheimer at number four ($115 million), Steven spielberg at number three ($130 million) and Michael Bay ($160 million)."
No wonder Detox is at the bottom of his priorities list lol.

LOL. No kidding. He's just pimpin' the industry at this point. But another album would raise his profile.

You know how many sweaters you can buy with that loot?

Ice Cube say something like this: "How you think, what Dre will sell CD for 10$ or headphones for 400$?"
TRUE
-
no shit...if he needed money, "Detox" woulda been out a long time ago. and it woulda been (one of) the greatest album(s) of all time. no hunger=no motivation...no motivation=no classics
dre could take 15 random leftover beats from "2001", pick 7 random artists out a hat from a handful of artists (Eminem, Kurupt, RBX, Rage, Devin, Hittman, Snoop, 6'2, Mack 10, Busta Rhymes, Knoc-Turnal, Ice Cube, MC Ren, DJ Quik, King-T, WC, Nas, Kokane, Rakim, Daz, Crooked I, Xzibit, Ras Kass, etc.), have them bring their a-game on each track, and it'd be a modern day classic- hands-down, no questions asked. it's just not needed, from his perspective. will he ever feel the need? who knows. but this cashflow from the headphones aint helpin the cause.
-
At this point , it's a good thing Detox will never come out ... releasing an album with Alex Da Kid , Boi-1da beats , eurodance samples and his current garbage voice would badly hurt his legacy
-
Plus, you can't download a pair of headphones for free...
Remember that Eminem video where Em and Dre are superheroes and they stop a kid from burning a CD of mp3s...
And Dre was one of the guys who took on Napster...
So he probably thought, well if you're going to download all my work for free, fuck y'all,
I'll put my name to something that can't be downloaded...
I reckon he'll only ever put Detox out once he's more confident that it won't just get bootlegged into oblivion,
because he obviously is concerned about that from what he's done in the past like the Em video and the Napster thing...

I don't think so he made $100 mln by release album in these days, if you wanna made album you need a lot of time you must be focus on it and you stiil in "work"
What are the difficulties by sellin headphones
-
In HMV yesterday in the 'urban' section they had a little advertisment for Detox which had the release date as 06/08/2012 :)

Hittman, Knoc and King T all got bootlegged before retail. Albums got shelved indefinitely

Dre is too old to put a new hiphop-album out

the albums werent shelved because they got bootlegged, they were shelved because dre/iovine knew they werent going platinum.

It's called a smash and grab, if it exist and has a $ sign attached it's stealable.

both points are valid, I tend to go with the not going platinum one myself though

yea Dre decided to shelve teh King T-album cuz he wasnt happy wit the rating in The Source, according to Ronin Ro's book

what a fucking loss forDre and Iovene to spend all hte time on those albums and get nothing out of it lol

Dre's love for money has obviously become stronger than his passion & love for hip hop; otherwise Detox would have been out a long time ago. The word sellout would probably be the best word to describe the good doctor.

yep
he didn't even want to do the 2001 album and because of that he only had 2 solo songs on a 21 song release
dude clearly has no passion for rapping as a solo artist. even the Chronic had quite a few songs without Dre rapping on them (Lyrical Gangbang, Stranded on DR and High Speed). but still that CD felt like a Dr. Dre album. 2001 felt like a compilation with Dre rapping a lot on it.
and has Dre ever wrote any lyrics ever?

How is he a sellout though? Dre has always cared about sound quality. The beats line is the perfect product for him, and actually represents what he's about. He's not endorsing some bullshit company that has nothing to do with him. The word sell out gets thrown around way too much.

this is true...as great as a producer as Dre is, he lost his passion for hip-hop long ago. otherwise, rakim, king-t, hittman, etc. woulda all dropped

he cares about his legacy above all else
-
anyone got a link to all the songs he did with King T?
-
Do people really want a Detox album? Y'all heard the tracks coming out of that shit. It was turrible. It's best to just put out 2 classics and just stop while you're ahead. He's making more money sitting at home, pumping steroids in his ass and hanging out with his boytoys in the Caribbean anyway.

And how does making millions off a music related product like headphones tarnish that legacy?

some tracks were good and some even had potential to be great if completed...for instance, if he released an album fulla songs like the recent one that dropped with king-t+xzibit, it would be a modern day classic.

i never said he's tarnishing his legacy....i said he doesnt have a passion for making classic hip-hop.
-
he used to but not anymore
-
When he made Chronic, he did not have the money he has today but he had drive, passion and love for hip hop. Fast forward years later he's filthy rich and uninterested in releasing his prevous works nor Detox and it's kind of a slap in the face to the fans-the very same people who are somewhat responsable for his financial success.
Not one single word or opinion we make here will make a difference in Dre's life/career, but at this point money is more important that his fans. Don't get me wrong, happy the dude is doing well financially, but fans have expectations and his priorities are elsewhere. When you're old and grey, or staring at the ceiling in some hospital no matter how much money you make or have, dollars cannot speak, show support, respect, and love.

Not really. It would be bumpable for sure but he's been doing that for decades and why just contribute more of the same? If he's complacent, he's better off not putting out a new album.

it would be better than anything coming out this year....guaranteed.

"Swag" is in. Bangers are out. Notice how 50 Cent fell off the the face of the planet?
Dre's only hope to put out Detox is if he's convinced it'll be viewed as a classic by the average mainstream listener. His best & only bet is just do a collab album with Eminem. Individually, songs like "Kush" just won't cut it.
-
anyone got a link to all the songs he did with King T?
I got u fam. Will up some shit to the hookup spot
-
i bet you eazy e is just chillin like yup i taught him well a hood nigga pimpin the industry!
-
Didnt Dre and Snoop have a concept for a duet album? i forgot what it was called, but I remember the idea re-surfaced and they were planning on releasing it again as "The Wash" soundtrack. they should just do that now, considering theyre both in a very grey area and they do bring the best out each other. if there ever was a time, this is it.

Everyone hated on "Kush" though, even though I still fuck with that track.

Yeah thats true and I cant speak for him but it seemed like he was going the commercial route and trying to get the new generation into him. I hope Im wrong because Dre can do whatever he wants and he could still have successful sales.

"kush" was a good cut... That was just a feature, tho. If Dre n Snoop got together and worked on a full album, the results would be special.

I still bang it. It was playin' at the clubs for a long time here when it came out. I haven't heard that many people dislike it, except on here of course.

I dont think it would be special at all. Snoop hasnt released anythin good for years.

everything he's ever released with dre has ranged from dope to great.
-
Kush wasn't that good IMO. It definitely wasnt bad, but outta all the Dre and Snoop collabos, that was the weakest one. Its still dope by 2012 standards though.

if it woulda been nate instead akon, shit woulda been classic...like u said, still a good track by 2012 standards, though.

Yeah I still play it quite a bit actually, I thought it was a good look for a street single, although I could of done without Akon.

Kush was the only good Dre record to drop. Probably coz Snoop was on board. No fanboy!
-
the recipe was better than Kush as Kendrick outrapped Snoop, whose verses were kinda lukewarm (i've heard worse from him though). Kush was kinda legit, though.
-
Agreed recipe was better, but Kush was a Dre record...if u know what I mean

"Kush" had a better beat and stronger presence. Also, didnt have Dre doin that weird ass flow. I say "Kush" was the better cut. Both were good, tho.

that's not true, I need a doctor got shitted on a lot more.
it's just that some were disappointed ( including myself). there was a poll about it, most voters like the song: http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=258436.0
i still think it's not a great song, they can do better. i like the beat though, it definitely grew on me

"Topless" was good too, it's a shame we didn't get to hear the finished version.
