Title: mellowman
Post by: Tanjential on December 28, 2006, 03:21:37 PM
I remember years back when I was very active on the board there was this mystery figure mellowman who apparently worked for aftermath that talked to us alot. whatever became of him? anyone ever decide what his deal was and who he was?

was just looking through some old posts of his and it's funny. in one of his last posts on the board he said "Keep up the hard work and you'll get some bigger doggs" snoop....d.o.c...yep....

he also said if OMG falls through, he would leave AM and that was right around the time it all fell apart and he stopped coming to the board. it was 2003, right?

He's been on a couple times since then, as "mellowmanisback" I think.

Dude was an imposter.  We've gone over this many times in the past.

Dude was a fake.  He never really said anything.  Basically "Detox will change the game forever", "Detox will be in 5.1 DSS".  I don't know how so many people thought he was legit.

yeah he did say "nothing" at times but he has a track record of enough proven-to-be-true things  (you'll get some bigger doggs, he left the board around 03 when OMG/rakim fell through in perfectr corroborations with what he was saying etc.)here and there for me to believe he's just very low on the AM food chain which is why he seems illegit.

He isn't fake at all.. I mean nobody can reveal infos on Detox , even the D.O.C... just read some of his posts and it's obvious he worked with Dre..

^ and  muthafuckas who wouldnt let it lie (INFINITE) and muthafuckas who took what he said and posted it on their sites.. as being from Mel-man.. who mellowman said he isnt many times.. and the same muthafucka BOMBING mellowman's private messages begging for interviews and hookups n shit (both the same muthafucka.. chris aka dedicato@aftermathmusic)..

problem with what dedicato did is that the BBC saw it posted on his wack ass site.. which at the time was trying to look like it was the REAL aftermath site by saying something like "your official aftermath source" (ripping off someone elses's tagline wc2k's i think).. the BBC didnt realise this and posted that "mel-man said blah blah".. they never creditted dubcc.. just said it was the official aftermath site posting that shit.. which it wasnt.. just another one of these wack news sites that dont write they own material..

shady as fuck.. sorry this gotta be dragged up again.. but the truth is.. if you wanna know where the dude went blame dedicato first and foremost.. and blame infinite second.

Wassup, man?

I started helping out with www.Aftermathmusic.com about a year and a half ago, so I don't know what went on in the past and I can't speak on it. But since I've worked with Chris I've been writing all the news I'd get, not copy it. If anything was copied from another fansite, the source would be mentioned. Like I said, I can't speak on what happened before I joined, but as far as I know, Dubcc and any other unofficial site has been credited. Chris and I both know who mellowman is (and YES he IS legit) so we never made claims that he was Mel-Man (atleast not since I started with the site).

As for the news, it is legit. Chris and I both have sources and mellowman himself testified to that on this board. Shit, Chris even spoke with him a few months ago and it's all gravy. There have been instances when Aftermathmusic.com revealed exclusive info and other sites copied it and never gave due credit. That type of shit happens to every site, but is it really that serious? I've never tripped over the times people took my info without giving credit. Most of us are fans of Hip Hop (and music in general) and some of us enjoy the whole web-site/forum thing. I'm just saying that people shouldn't get mad or start disrespecting others over shit like this, it's just music. It's fun to have debates and arguments, but it should all be fun... not bitter.

Anyways, I'm happy to be a member of this board, I love checkin' the site and I highly respect what people like Nima are doing. I also enjoy what I do with Aftermathmusic and it's board. Fuck it's my birthday and I'm in a good mood  8)

Happy New Year to all of you! I hope yall had a good and safe holiday season, and happy Eid to Muslims online.

PEACE

It's amazing to me how many of you guys are so gullible.  It's like "y'all some young muthafuckas, still believing in magic."

At best, dude was an employee of Aftermath's online street team.  Notice how he always posted when it was time to hype up an upcoming release?  But, I repeat, that's AT BEST.

Really, it was more than likely some (admittedly wiley) dude with a lot of time on his hands.  After all, he never said any information that couldn't be gleaned elsewhere and could be re-written in a coherent and serious tone to make it sound authoritative.

But the real reason why smart people like me and Jome know he was a fake was that dude started talking about that Osama Bin Laden diss song that Dre made like it was all done and ready to be released, and then some weeks later, there was an interview in EW with Dre who said he and some rappers was just clowing around in the studio one day, and it never made it even CLOSE to being a finalized song, which left Mellow with egg on his face.

Anyway, y'all are waaay to gullible.  And what's with this nonsense that doubting dude scared him away.  So what, we're not allowed to call bullshit when we see it?  I mean, that type of censorship leads to the downfall of civilizations (see Nazi Germany, current Bush-administration America, etc.).

i do kinda wonder why he didn't join the ranks of other aftermath.west coast rap affiliates that have done interviews with dubcnn...I mean, he could do what he does without having to be all incognito now. He doesn't say anything that's not allowed to be said so it's like why the incognito? to hide from dre? If dre ain't trippin on lamont and DOC and 50 and them then why would he care about  a fuckin' bassist or whatever mel claims to be?

I'm 99% sure I figured out through all the context clues who Mellowman was.  There were about 3 things that proved it to me, at first it was just a lucky guess but about a year ago he slipped up and said something that confirmed it to me.  I always knew dude was legit though, all you fucking potheads missed all the shit he said that later proved true because your short term memory is all fucked up.

Well, I don't know if dude is legit or not.  I just know that I could have written the exact same essays on how much of a genius Dre was, and how incredible detox is gonna be, and how dope it's gonna sound in surround sound.  But why would dude get butthurt and leave if people questioned if he was authentic or not?  Does he think people blindly believe half the shit that is said on these boards?

Alright, then tell us exactly what did he EVER say that came to be true? What did he ever tell us that we didn't already know?
All he did was write extended essays about things we already knew or could probably already assume. I remember him telling us that Rakim probably won't come out and that Dre is tired of all the beef with 50 and Game. He would always tell us shit that any moron with half a brain could probably figure out.

I remember that - something about 'time for a certain uk-banned dogg to go see the doctor'.

Thing is though, Snoop mentioned in a rap that the doctor sold him three beats before that was posted so it's not completely conclusive proof of authenticity.

Then again, with dubcc being the premier west coast rap board it's not unrealistic for a lot of top producers and rappers to be reading and even posting here. Hell, we know Game and Snoop read from time to time.

I found a mellowman post that makes a good case for his validity, it's actual pretty damn specific and not just clever wording.

http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=13145.0

also, someone would have to have been doing a RIDICULOUS amount of research to make statements like the following:

guarantee he will use orchestra instruments like flutes, horns, cellos, other strings, and especially my favorite instrument the bad motherfuckin upright bass (which mike has played on tracks like phone tap, bitch please 1 and 2, bad guys always die and xzibits wash track "get fucked up with me").

for example^^^ so it's not like someone couldn't make such statements without knowing, but i mean, i think it unlikely that a fake would say such things. at the very least this cat has sat in on some AM sessions.
