I've given up on this guy..Rap music , actually , is close to irrelevant to me right now . No hope for the west .Dre will be a pop artist once this album is heard....IF it's ever heard .
-
Let the hate begin
This is probably the wackest Dre song I've ever heard, but at least he is gonna get some mtv play and this should ensure that detox actually does come out. I'm still holding out hope that the album won't sound like i need a doctor.
-
Honestly, forget what anyone thinks of the song, they pretty much HAD to drop the video soon since the song dropped crazy on the charts. When this flops HARD (compared to what everyone thought would happen, this HAS to be considered a flop if it doesn't at least get back to the top 10) watch for the inevitable push back.
-
under pressure >>>>>>>>>>>>> this wack song
-
Sounds good.
-
I REALLY hope there is a snippet of a new song at the end of the video.
-
I think the video is gonna be a good one.. and the song sounds more like an Eminem track
-
Someone should stab alex da kid, and punch Dre in the face for insulting his fanbase with this shit
Either way detox is going to flop, it's inevitable
-
Props on the info TRG ! 8)

Hmmm...it's been a few minutes.

of course we have to wait a little bit longer lol

the idea of watching this video in the morning is giving me maaaaaaaad chills yall...
-
wasn't a fan of kush but i liked the video. i don't like this song either but maybe i'll like the video
-
I'm willing to bet a majority of Dubcc pulls an all-nighter tonight lol.
-
I don't think this song is gonna be very big. If this had come out last year before recovery, I could see it being a hit. But we were literally just fed an Eminem song sounding almost exactly like this all year long.
-
Looking forward to this, hopefully it does well, the album comes out and we get to hear something game changing
-
I don't know why Iovine fells like they need this one hit single before releasing an album. None of the 2001 singles did anything on the charts.

Because this is a different album in a different decade?

Iovine is a business man, he doesnt care about the quality of the album he just wants to make sure the album sells as many copies as possible. If Jimmy thought that wearing a purple dress and lipstick would sell more records, you better believe Dre would be wearing a dress and lipstick. Can't say I blame him. If I had money invested in this album I would do the same thing.

I reckon the video for this will be really good, in comparison to the actual track. Will most likely be set in a hospital or something with Em and Dre in their lab coats like they were on the front of that XXL.

Doubt it. Specially if its Dre video. Thing like that is too obvious, not many artists would probably do that, specialy Dre, which claim to be innovator.

I hope the video is where Dre is looking all sad and confused and then Jimmy Iovine and Eminem fly in through an open window
and Jimmy sits down with Dre and shows him Eminem's last album and music videos and then shows him the royalty statements
and how much it sold, and then Alex Da Kid flies through through the window and opens up Fruityloops and makes a beat and
then Eminem hands Dre a verse and then Dre raps it, and then they go online and see it no.1 on iTunes and then they high five
each other

hey i gets my troll on but its not done totally blindly...i only troll against things that i find disgraceful to westcoast fans as a whole or things that i think stereotype wc hip hop fans.
im not one of those guys that only posts in g spot i try and contribute to the board...sometimes it just seems so futile when you got balke and bork bork over hear talking about g funk and trying to scavenge gang info to add to his memoirs and shit.
this was the first rap forum i ever joined i got love for dubcc.
-
Must say, shit is a very well made video.
Still the song remains wack as can be. Dre, the new, popular pop star.

Actually loved the vid, won't talk again about the song though. The meaning behind it, the lyrics, the video, the timing, everything BUT the beat is superb, but unfortunately the beat IS what makes Dre/Detox. The videos shown throughout were a real surprise to me and the Eazy part at the end was MAD CHILLS.
-
when i seen eazys face i cried then i got maaaaad chills bros.
-
Ill give it up to Dre. This video was epic. Mad symbolism throughout the entire video and the scene at Easy's grave was a nice finish. I think this just set up the Detox wave in a big way. Im certain the next single will be something that everyone will enjoy.
-
in memory of eazy e at the end :o this video is beautiful the life of a man the life of a legend : dr dre
we will never forget !
-
i think that most people who are hating @ dre at the moment are stuck in the past. they need to realize that dre is a whole different peroson now. what do u expect ? that hes gonna do a nother nuthing but a g thang song and video ?, or a next next episode one with all the g´s(dogg pound etc) in it ?? ...its 2011 and honestly people dont want thinks like that anymore....what sells is that pop shit, for example with eminem or rihanna etc.
of course there is his hardcore straight gangsta fanbase, but we are so few that it makes no sense to create an cd that we love, another chronic 2001 with dpg, X, hitman, knoc etc etc ...that will never happen again.
hes a smart man, he knows what people want and iovene knows that too...thats why they putting singles like i need a doc out..they want to make $$$. i would love to hear another chronic 2001 but i know that wont happen, but i do think that detox will be great, not what most people in here want, but it will be a dope cd with a lot of tracks that are baging. i gotta say i like the 2 singles, they are not what i expected but like i said before, dre doesnt make cds for "us" anymore, he does them for the majority of fans (popfans).
furthermore its because his "friends" and people who surround them have changed. he dont hang with DOC, snoop, X, knoc etc no more..hes surrounded by people like lady gaga, rihanna etc, pop artists.. everyone wants to make some music with dr dre and he did sooo much with hardcore rap artists, that i guess he had kinda enough, so hes trying to do somethink new.
-
yo this video is dope!!!! .... waiting on the 90s kids to comment lol

thanks.
I actually wondered during the grammy performance if the thing that was running on the screen behind them was from the video. Guess it was.
and what an obvious cliche this video became
didnt somebody on here predict what the video was gonna be like?
-
Damn, Dre really did Detox. Intro and ending was dope. The pop flavoured song still dont get a pass though.
With this and him being sampled on a upcoming Dub-C record, Eazy finally getting some respect again.
-
February 18th, 2001: the day Detox was announced i'm guessing? I know it was January/February 2001. Honestly, I dont know how ANYONE can hate on this video, he basically gives it up to everyone in his past, and the Eazy part at the end was pretty fuckin unexpected.
-
I can digg it!! bring on DETOX. 8)
-
wack
-
vid was ok but the track is straight trash
-
Dam the video is really dope! watched it twice now... they played it a few times during that show. you get too see his history and he has nuttin about 50 I wonder why?
It was so dope that he had Eazy E in there and put flowers on his grave at the end...gave me chills
RIP EAZY
-
Dope video. Amazing
Is detox stil a myth? Hahahahaha
-
vid was ok but the track is straight trash

good video.wack song.hopefully it still blow up
-
im pretty sure that this aint even the main single.. is it hard to see that its all in the marketing plan?
-
video was really well done, but the track is obviously not my cup of tea :coffee:
they have to have come to the end of the line with the pre-detox hype now. time to find out if there's something fresh and epic in the bag or a big dose of anticipointment :P
-
matty you fucking hater, you wouldnt have liked it either way unless dre and snoop would have sprayed some bitch in the face with a 40 oz.
did they show game at all in the video montage?

The actual video was pretty good, the beginning/ending was excellent... still like my version better though
Also at the end they should have all flown off on a spaceship in the shape of Beats By Dre headphones
It is pretty clever how they're using Eminem to reintroduce Dre as if he's a new artist and let the biggest rapper right now explain that Dre gave him his break, etc. because kids today don't really know stuff like that

some one should splice those pics of dr dre and beiber together in the studio and mix them up into the beginning and end montages where they are showing pac and eazy.

It's actually a dope video. Dre is reflecting back on his career, remembering the good ole' days when he was a dynamic, innovative artist, but now he's frustrated because he knows he's washed up and doesn't have it anymore. Some people take to the bottle and drink away the pain, but Dre deals with the pain by driving really recklessly fast, yo! So he gets in a car crash and dies. Fast forward "years later" and Eminem shows up and starts rapping to Dre about how much Dre means to him (Em is such a sweetheart, wouldn't you say?). Meanwhile, Dre is stillborn in one of those full-body-submersed-in-liquid life support units ala Luke Skywalker at the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back. Oh, and Em is still rapping to Dre about how much he means to him because Eminem just loooves Dre so much. Throughout all this, a female ghost floats in the air and sings about how she's going to lose her mind. But don't fret! Dre comes back to life via futuristic technology thanks to some really skilled doctors even though now he looks more like the Six Million Dollar Man, bionically reinvigorated. Even so, he's still haunted by his past accomplishments, meaning he's come full circle but likewise has made peace with it. We can see this because he goes to visit Eazy's grave as the sun sets during Golden Hour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_hour_(photography)). He smiles peacefully.
I would love to have been a fly on the wall of the director's pitch meeting just to see the look on people's faces!
-
it looks like dre got all those fire tats removed from his hands
the idea of dre geting his tats removed gives me maaaaaaaaaaaaaaad chills.
-
LIke the song or not, it's a really well-done music video, playerhaters you got to give it up.
Dre is known for being a recluse so for him to show footage of his kids and wife makes that video very personal and authentic... Him working out was a little questionable for an entire verse but overall in todays videos, I'd give it a 4.5/5. To the people who say it is cliche or bad, common, stop hating.
Also the montages made the video imo. That was sicc to see Eazy-E dedication at the end. Awesome job... to bad the song wasn't a bit better. I don't think that will be his main single though... just a warm-up.

Nah, it's the first single.
-
i loved it and i like this song a whole lot more now that it's finished and complete. Dre just gave me a whole new perspective of respect for him with this video. Tha fact that he put a few 2 parts dedicated to Eazy in the video (at the beginning and end) is what sealed the deal and made it special (that shit was too real). shit, i had to come back and let it be known. Dre is back!
but with that said, what's the next single, better yet, when does tha album drop? thanks Dr. Dre

We aren't asking for another Chronic or 2001. What sold back then was pop shit as well, and those songs are pretty commercial compared to their time.
Dre has been known for coming with his own commercial sound and taking over the mainstream. I'm all for that and I've been expecting his music to sound pop. However he didn't even produce his own single. Instead he has a generic Alex da Kid beat, of which we already have plenty and Dre's happens to be the worst.

Cool story bro. Thanks for summing up what everyone just watched.
I'd say this is the best Dre video I've seen. This could have been an epic moment if only it was a good song.
-
2 words : MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD CHIIIIIILS
-
Is it just me or does this version sound different? Even more watered down? Sounds like Dre re-did his vocals, maybe both of them, and the beat was re-mixed. Or maybe I just haven't listened to it enough to know.
-
I don't think that will be his main single though... just a warm-up.
Nah, it's the first single.
I dunno, I read somewhere (probably here) that Dre was going to do six videos. Hopefully he will have a bigger better Dre-produced track that will smash on this one. Still awesome video, the montages were sicc.
-
Tha video is tight. It does give u chills a bit. Dre gets a bit personal in this music video. U see classic music video footage along with some personal footage. Snap images and footage of those dear to Dre from The DOC, Snoop, Eminem, some of his family members, his wife, his beloved brother, Eazy, and even 2Pac. I love the video.
-
Great video ! ;D
Mediocre song. ;)
I think someone forgot to add the part where Jimmy Iovine appears from behind a rock and with remote control in hand and presses the button which sends Dre's car spiraling....in the opening montage.
-
LOL @people calling this video dope, vid was actually good until the music started then it was some homo shit with EM and a workout vid with Dre
-

We can see this because he goes to visit Eazy's grave as the sun sets during Golden Hour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_hour_(photography)). He smiles peacefully.
I would love to have been a fly on the wall of the director's pitch meeting just to see the look on people's faces!
men singing love songs to men......
Ken Kaniff is a real person.

:o
Wow!
-
I liked it.
Skylar Grey is supposed to be the spirit of hip-hop. Not too complicated folks.
Also, some of it reminds me of 50 Cent's Get Up video, near the end of it he find both Dre & Em locked up in frozen units.
-

lmao it's a joke the worst thing in this video it looks like a shadow girl in the spirit of Dr dre NOT the spirit of hip hop !
-
I personally like this song a lot and I think the video is cool but its too long and people would lose intrest in it quick since it takes forever for the song to start
-
eminem is on a whole different level
-
The video is dope as fuck 8)
-
This shit was done really well, mad respect to Dre for all the footage of Eazy. It seems to focus on his early careers, as there's no 50, Game, Xzibit, Busta etc stuff in there. Ending was sick, Dre paying tribute to the cat who really put him on, like Em is doing this whole song. Feeling it, patiently waiting for the next single 8)
-
really liked pretty much everything about the video, still don't like the song
-
Great video :)
-
Like the idea of the video, intros dope and the flashbacks are nicely done but the main of the video coulda been done wayyyy better imo, it just looks really cheesy/awkward
As for the song, it's just a shame this is the main Detox single but I'm not gonna bitch/overreact about anything until the next single drops, that shit better be a fucking monster
-
Very nice video , just a strange vibe to it .The flashbacks won't be seen besides on these forums and Youtube , so we will see how the non hardcore fans will like this shit.
-
interested to see what they're planning next

Dope video. I don't think anyone could have come up with something better than this.
I also find that the video adds insight to the song...as it was mentioned earlier, Dre coming full circle with everything that has happened in the past. Skylar representing hip hop, brilliant. The chorus makes much more sense (Thanks for the insight, Action!).
The personal videos of his wife, kids, NWA and Em is a nail in the coffin ! Nice touch.

couldn't have said it better.
-
I'm still not feeling the song, but the video made it make a lot more sense. I remember Dre initially talking about Detox, saying the album would be laid out in a "12 step" program, starting with the first track, hence "detoxing". This works as being the first "step", if he sticks to that original idea, this might actually be a great album.
-
Dr. Dre is BACK!... and so am I just for this lol... whats up Dubcc?
-
pretty much the same old thing bla bla bla crooked i bla bla bla kurupt fell off bla bla bla detox will be shit and so on

You can really tell we live in an age of an 'I want' society. Years back people woulda been buzzin to hear this on radio. Hittin the shops for the single on day one and bumpin the shit out of it. N be watchin the music channels to get a peep of this vid, buzzin to catch it. All hype.
It's sad in a way people got the leak! pulled it to bits. FUCK DRE I WANT THE NEXT LEAK OR SINGLE NOW. FUCK A LEAK I WANT THE FINAL MIX. FUCK HIM THIS CANT BE IT!!! Saw the vid FUCK DRE I WANT THE NEXT VID ALREADY! THIS CANT BE FOR REAL. THE FIRST SINGLE? FUCK HIM!!

They remind me of those girls on Sweet 16 whose parents buying them the wrong car. "Oh my God! I hate Dr. Dre. He didn't wave his magic G-Funk wand and make a song that makes me feel like I'm in Junior High again so the song I did get is the worst fucking thing I've ever heard." Tupac didn't fake his death, Death Row went out of business, Dre ain't bringing back G-Funk, and Santa Claus ain't real. Get the tears out of your system now because tomorrow's a work day.

-
Great video. Like someone said everything about this is great besides the beat...but its just one song.

Granted but you got 'Kush' to catch the ear of the peeps who remember Dre's 2001 style, but fused with todays music. Next 'I Need a Doctor' for the pop fans attention. People who liked Stan because they liked the Dido sound and not the other way round. Plus it's part one of some story based videos like Daft Punk or even Usher did recently.
This is an official single...but it's still the warm up. :pimp:
-
Wack song, but the video's great.
-
This song would be amazing...but this beat is just fucked up in the wrong way....but this gona do huge numbers. hook is catchy
-
Song sucks still
Video is pretty good, seeing eazy pac was dope.
No 50 cent haha
Also I'm not really an eminem fan but his 2 verses gave me a new appreciation for him.

Im really glad to see Dre put old NWA, Pac, Warren G, Nate, Kurupt, Snoop shots in the video, gives me hope that Dre understands that those were the times that made him what he is today and guess it gives me hope that Detox will come out good.
ps. anyone knows whats the name of the actress/model that plays the spirit in the video..?

lol, 6 pages already for a wack Dre song :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:
i can see many of you's ending your life with the impending flop of detox... RIP Stans. :banana_rock: :banana_rock:
-
Good video, wack song - overall, "Kush" was better.
-
Skylar has a cameo in the vid with Alex Da Kid at around 2:20. ;)
-
great video, in my opinion.
I'd say this is the best Dre video I've seen. This could have been an epic moment if only it was a good song.
that's what i was thinking too

Video is very nice but the track still sucks. Nothing wrong with the content but Dre's awkward verse, Em screaming, terrible Alex Da Kid production.... I just hop this ends up an iTunes bonus track or something. Kush was and still is a pure 2011 Dre banger.

I'm surprised that everybody seems to like this corny ass video... Detox is over
-
The idea is cool but the song is boring and the gym shit is :camp:
kush was cool, would be better with butch on the hook tho
lets see what the other cuts will be like.

this is the email i got earlier, promoting Detox and what not. thought it was interesting that there was no mention of 50..
-
The video is corny as hell. I don't know how it stacks up to other videos being made nowadays, but on it's own, it's just weird. It's great that all those flashbacks were there and the tributes were nice, but seriously, the whole bringing Dre back from the dead and all was just too cheesy. And what's with him working out all through his verse. This is supposed to be his return. Rather than looking into the camera point blank and talking to us he's mumbling his verse while working out. Stupid.
Also, did they autotune Skylar Grey's voice even more since the leaked version. She has a great voice, but they ruined it.
Song sucks, video sucks. On the bright side, all the little kids on Youtube seem to dig it, so hopefully it will get popular enough and we'll see more Dre singles of proper Dr Dre produced tracks.

Dope. Which company sent you this ?
-
sign up to the official Dr. Dre site, and they send you these emails. naturally there haven't been too many :P but got one or two when Kush dropped, and now same again with INAD
-
the only part i liked about the video was the flashbacks to nwa, pac & specially him visiting the the eazy-e grave....otha than that it looked like in da club part 2 lol...

Cool ! Thanks. So I guess they still are aiming for an April release....
Kendrick Lamar mentioned in an interview over the weekend that they were still aiming for april too...
Interesting.

Exactly. 8)
-
Man, this makes the Kush video look and sound so so much better.
-
So... in 2001 after his latest album, he gets motivation from thinking about his career and rushes back to a studio to get down again? Then he crashes? Is that the deal? Last image before crash was Eazy shooting.
-
Excellent video....then at the end when he visits eazy tombstone :'(

We have hopes of saving this forum. I still have faith that one day we can have discussions about west coast music that's actually coming out
-
The fact that everybody likes this video due to the "flashbacks" to Dre's younger days demonstrates that Dre should go back to that, which is what he's good at. I mean, people are reacting to the flashbacks rather than the contemporary-sounding song itself. That's more evidence that Interscope is mistaken if they think people want Dre to become a 2011 metrosexual pop star. But it's pretty much hopeless at this point.

By 'people' you mean lamerz on this forum?
-
This is a great video i aint gonna lie, but its really not what i wanna see coming from Dre. Just the entire style of it, gym scene at the end wasn't exactly fitting either..
I think this would serve at the intro to detox, since it's talking about the return of dre and getting him back on his feet and getting him to come back, and in the final verse he does & the album will carry on from that, although a number of producers have claimed the intro track to detox already.
I still believe "The Next Episode" is the best rap video ever and Dre should go back to that style, forget this pop'e genetic mainstream sounding bullshit. When i think of a dr dre track, i aint gonna think of this track. the anticipation alone of this album should be enough to make it sell.
This is DETOX, 2001 pt.2. no one wants Skylar Gray singing and eminem shouting, we want Dr.Dre's signiture sound.
/rant
-
Very cool video, great concept
-
I still believe "The Next Episode" is the best rap video ever
what makes you say that?
-
Nice video. Intro is fucked up though. It's fucked up cuz it's so real. That's probably how Dre feels in real life too. Sad and insecure, thinking back on the years when he still had the inspiration to produce all these classic hip hop tracks.
-
Video was incredible to say the least
-
the product placement throughout this video ruined any symbolism for me
RIP Eazy but can we interest you in a HP tablet
-
i like the way the video starts and ends but the song is shit. i think that the intro and outro to the video would have been better for a song like "imagine" with snoop from the blue carpet treatment, a song that dre ACTUALLY produced. detox = flop
-
the song is wack lol

yeah
-
Dope video what else to say??!
-
A well put together video. Puts the whole song into perspective but the lack of Dre involvement in the track is the only problem with me. A great business move for Dre in that it will help shift more copies of Detox but I think its time for some vintage Dre production on the next single.
-
I didn't like the song but the video made me change my mind, damn!
-
that intro takes a lot of inspiration from 127 Hours movie, anyway wack song wack video + Dre look like a big head mutant ;D
-
this song isnt what we expected FACT! however partnered with the video its no longer just a mediocre song, its added alot more substance,.. and i can say im now content with its release... i think we start judging whether detox is going to live up to out expectations from NOW on..
-
Pretty dope video. Love the footage and Eazy E grave at the end.
Song is what it is to me. I enjoy it, but in a cheesy way. It's not what I wanna hear from Dre obviously but it is what it is.

I'm not gonna watch the video of a horrible song.

Good point. But that's what Dre does these days.

this video made me want to buy a ferrari, iphone, ipad, beats by dr.dre, and drink some gatorade and buy a white g-shock..... apart from that cool video 8)
-
I don't get the conspiracy theories about 50 not being in the flashbacks? The date at the start says 2001, so it's obvious the flashbacks are his career up until then, so no 50, Game, Busta etc etc

You're acting like they did this interview to update his core online fanbase online.
This is for some thirteen year old kid who finds it on Youtube & says "Wow, Eminem is great. Blah, blah blah".

Whoever doubted that Skylar Grey is supposed to be the spirit of hip-hop, Em's comments in that interview with extra prove that I was right.

nope, unlike you i'm convinced that he still has it, just dre's confidence isn't there.

-
^They have to know that we see through that though lol.
-
this song is terrible it sounds like love the way you lie and i hate that shit :-X
video intro is very good but the song is just horrible :-X :-X :-X :-X
what the fuck is wrong with dr dre
-
the song sucks but the video is very good I must say it kinda makes the song a little more bearable.
-
i think that most people who are hating @ dre at the moment are stuck in the past. they need to realize that dre is a whole different peroson now. what do u expect ? that hes gonna do a nother nuthing but a g thang song and video ?, or a next next episode one with all the g´s(dogg pound etc) in it ?? ...its 2011 and honestly people dont want thinks like that anymore....what sells is that pop shit, for example with eminem or rihanna etc.
of course there is his hardcore straight gangsta fanbase, but we are so few that it makes no sense to create an cd that we love, another chronic 2001 with dpg, X, hitman, knoc etc etc ...that will never happen again.
What the fuck?? Here we go again with that "POP" shit again. NO 2001 was not POP and Chronic was not either. You think everything that's "Commercial" is POP. I think what the guy is obviously saying, is that the song does not even sound HIP HOP. Chronics and 2001 "POP" hits still had a HIP HOP vibe. How the fuck do you relate this song with those? Yes, Dre had the ability to make commercial music but i can name 100 tracks that were POPULAR that don't sound like this shit, regardless of the era. This is some shit JA rule would use to rap with Ashanti in the 2001 era. haha. Your waay off.
-
end of the day...this aint good enough...altho i like the video and dre's verse

the song sucks but the video is very good I must say it kinda makes the song a little more bearable.
the verses are tight and the beat isn't that bad but the hook ruins it for me :-\

i think that most people who are hating @ dre at the moment are stuck in the past. they need to realize that dre is a whole different peroson now. what do u expect ? that hes gonna do a nother nuthing but a g thang song and video ?, or a next next episode one with all the g´s(dogg pound etc) in it ?? ...its 2011 and honestly people dont want thinks like that anymore....what sells is that pop shit, for example with eminem or rihanna etc.
of course there is his hardcore straight gangsta fanbase, but we are so few that it makes no sense to create an cd that we love, another chronic 2001 with dpg, X, hitman, knoc etc etc ...that will never happen again.
Fail. INAD sounds nothing like an Ashanti song.
"This is bell-bottoms-and-Afros music, its spiritual source the blaxploitation soundtrack, and what it promises above all is boom times for third-rate flautists--sociopathic easy-listening. Even if it's "just pop music," as some rationalize, it's bad pop music" -- review for The Chronic

I like the way he put all the old clips and paid homage to eazy-e. Video was full of subliminal commercials advertising a bunch of shit....

Seems like it's an intro song or prelude for Detox... Doc wakes up, and comes back - releases Detox

The subliminals worked too. After watching the video for the fifth time I went to BestBuys website to look into purchasing an HP Tablet. After work tomorrow I'm going Ferrari shopping

Disappointed by the lack of nike promotion. Gon buy a g-shock watch instead.

Well that was a sample, so I wouldn't really count that as a sung hook. To me, the hook is actually the best part of this song, and the lyrics/meaning are on point. Everything else is ass.
And also, WTF at Dre on the mixing!!! This has to be one of the worst Dre-mixed beats i've EVER heard, that is unless he didn't mix it, but I doubt it.

Yeah i'm feeling this, it's just an intro for more to come... a little heads up

Again, GREAT CONCEPT for the song, but the finished product is :-\
Many of us are tired of Em's screaming, and at least for Dre's single, were hoping he would be front and center, AND of course produce the beat.
But the real problem with this song is Dre going flavour of the month on us.
What i find most incredulous is that of all the recent Alex Da Kid beats/Skyler Grey written or sung hooks, this is by far the worst on both accounts.
Coming Home-Diddy
Castle Walls- T.I.
Love the Way you Lie-Em
Airplanes-BOB
Words I Never Said- Lupe
All of the above are Alex beats, and all either feature Skyler Grey herself, or have hooks sung by her. Listen to them, listen to INAD....and it's obvious INAD is the worst (well, maybe Coming Home)

Coming homes a decent track, shits all over inad

Coming homes a decent track, shits all over inad
I like the beat and hook better, and I could handle Diddy 10 or 12 years ago, but not now. Actually though, maybe Diddy rapping is a better alternative to Em screaming and Dre sounding unmotivated and awkward

Dre could have brought out a different MAINSTREAM, POPULAR single. Eminem is probably not the best example, but Ill try and use him. Remember RELAPSE? Well Dre produced "3AM" and a video was released for the MAINSTREAM. Can you tell the difference between both? If you can't understand my point, then don't even bother. I just don't want to hear any more garbage statements about Chronic and 2001 was always "POP". I think everyone here understands both albums were POPULAR but I think you should be smart enough to understand that's not what people are trying to imply.

Chronic nor 2001 had the POP sound that was happening at that time.
Popular music has always had a variety of sounds. Your personal taste and experiences would play a big role in defining that. I don't feel there was ever a time where pop music was defined by one sound. Michael Jackson, Madonna, and George Michael weren't all doing the same music in the 80's but they were all huge pop acts. Dre was definitely playing around with the popular formula for California-based music at that time. The content was a little edgier but that was what the buying public wanted. The music itself was melodic with strong R&B/funk influence. You play "Straight Outta Compton" and then play "The Chronic" and tell me which one is more polished and pop-oriented on a sonic level. I mean, since we all were alive and aware in 1991-92, let me pose this question: What was "pop rap" back then? White suburban America had their fill of New Kids On The Block, Michael Jackson, and MC Hammer. Record labels weren't looking for cute shit. People want something a little rebelious. They wanted Death Row, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana. R&B acts were acting more like rappers to try and sell. Back then, it was clean-cut artists searching out rappers so they could have credibility. MC Hammer was coming back as the "Funky Headhunter". Dre had the formula with that one.
-
Well, there's popular music (popular shortened to pop) and then there's pop music (poppy shortened to pop).
What's the difference? Are they both the same?
There is a difference. Not all popular music is poppy. Most poppy music tends to be more popular (among a certain age range).
Poppy music is usually distinguished by a certain sound - note choices and arrangements.
That's my biggest issue with this song. It's not the drums. If it were just the drums and them rapping, it would be doper.
It's the notes from the piano and the way the chorus is sung, particular "to bring me back to LIIIIIIIIIIIFE" It's that annoying "heart beat" sound during the verses. This is poppy hip-hop.
Plus, Dre doesn't sound good on this.
It also doens't help that this comes after a slew of similar sounding tracks.
If this was the first one, my ears would definitely be more receptive to it.
-
I think the word you're thinking of is "formulaic", not "poppy".
-
I don't know why Iovine fells like they need this one hit single before releasing an album. None of the 2001 singles did anything on the charts.
Your trippin man... I don't know about chart position but I remember all 3 singles from Dre's first and second albums being all over the radio and MTV/BET. And it ain't about Jimmy Iovine, I wish everybody would shut up about Jimmy Iovine. Dre has been this way his whole career, he does not release albums unless there is a high demand for the album, and a high demand is proven by a big reaction to a single. So unless this video/song jumps off don't expect Detox to come out. It's like when Dre was being reclusive around 98' and King Tee was scheduled and advertised to drop his album, they released a first single "Got It Locked" and Dre was even in the video, but the single/video didn't take off so the album was never released.
If ya'll were real Dre fans you would be supportin this video and trying to get this shit to blow up, and by the way it's a great video, I love the images from Dre's past... it kind of reminds me of Rocky 4 with the "No Easy Way Out" montage. Everyone here should head over to MTV's website and play the video so it can stay #1 on MOST VIEWED so that Detox will finally come out!

@ the rapture: 2001 was a pop album back then? He was crying on the outro, imo that album was partial soundtrack to that era but still raw in the industry aspect. Imo fans would rather have a newer version of 2001 than a album of dre/eminem cryin and makin love to each other. A newer version of 2001 aka 2011. From all these detox leaks KUSH is the closest thing to a hardcore dre goin at it. Keep in mind if thats not dre producing it, imagine dre coming thru on a crazy "higher" type piece? And reason hes cryin with his "best friend" is to win his fans back and hes doin that on ems nickel since em is more popular than dre is

Yes FUCK YOU And your reviews. I dont give a shit what you think either. Its not my fault you're a fucken idiot and cant understand what people are trying to say. Its fucken obvious this completely different from what DRE has done then and NOW. "Oh its always been POP", man cut the whining and bitching already about that played out subject. I Lived it here in Cali? Im born and raised in SOUTH CENTRAL LA bitch and grew up on that era. I was BORN before the HOP Hop Started and was old enough to understand the movement. What the fuck are you going to tell me. " OH A FAMOUS PROFESSIONAL CRITIC KNOWS MORE THAN YOU" HAHAHA. What a fucken lame. The dude makes a comment saying this don't sound like dre and you come up with "WE ARE NOT EXPECTING A CHRONIC OR 2001" NO FUCKEN SHIT!! Dont you get the point? Im sorry if i offended your "professional" critic, whoever the fuck he is but that's not my argument and I truly don't feel like explaining it. My point was simple and if you were not able to comprehend, im sorry son but I tried. POP is different for everyone. Don't try and categorize every fucken song the same way.

Now this is something I can respect. Of course POP has always had a different sound. We all know the definition of POP, like i explained earlier but my argument is that DRE's sound was different. That a great point that you make. MC hammer was also POP but Im sure you would be able to tell the difference between "Cant Touch This" and "Nothing but a G Thang" right? LYRICS and SOUND. This topic has been brought up a million times and people continue with the same shit. You can also make an argument that much of the so called "UNDERGORUND" music can also be considered POP to a certain extent. If we want to go strictly by the definition, then we can consider all MAINSTREAM/Top of the CHARTS music POP but i'm positive that MOST people here are not talking about that, when they say that DRE has gone POP. YA dig?

ACtion, That is eaxctly my point. Thanks for elaborating. I knew people would understand what I was trying to say. Its pretty fucken obvious. This NEW DRE shit is POPPY as fuck.

Like most people, I like the concept and lyrics but cant stand that fucken beat. That sound is just not right. Dre sounds waay the fuck off. He sounds out of place and awkward. This doesn't fit him at all. I still don't know how the fuck this beat made it on DETOX. Fuck Jimmy I
