Title: Caliz Iz Active Album Appreciation Thread
Post by: Addicted To Cake on June 19, 2006, 04:00:52 PM
i know it aint the only one who enjoyed this album. fuk the negativity.

after listening to this album a 5 straight times i must say its pretty damn good. Alot of tracks grew on me.  theres 4 tracks that should've never made the album.

"Its all Good" by Battlecat is another LA anthem.

4 mics atleast for this album.
it has like the hot westcoast tracks aswell as south coast and eastcoast type songs which make the album more diverse and solid.
It also has the songs that u won't like at first but they kinda grows on you eventually when u get lil tired of the songs u had on repeat.

Only thing I didn't like was how kurupts verses on a few songs just sounded the same old .........the word motherfucker, bitch being used so many times and...the bin laden etc shit.

this album proved kurupt just dont got it anymore.

the album would've been better if Daz did most of the beats but i aint trippin.

glad you made this thread.....Im feeling the album for the most part////dont really like the song with Paul Wall, and the one with David Banner woulda sounded better on his own album IMO.....But there are some serious bangers on there.....Slow your Roll is fuckin crazy, Im really feelin Heavyweights too.....And Snoop did a great job rapping on this album.  Kurupt was kind of a let down tho...But Im still feellin it. 8)

Only listened through it once, and I gotta say it's a pretty mediocre album, like I expected.
Surprised to see 2 of the Soopafly beats being among the dopest, while Battlecat haven't really made a new beat the last 3-4 years.
And the Alchemist track would have been the best one if it was on the album.

bangin' album.. i'm not really sure what people expected from Daz, Kurupt & Snoop Dogg this time around. Sure, Kurupt sounds like shit on a few albums but it's not a new thing. And "Battlecat fell off"?? What the fuck, he produced like 4 songs on the album and the only one I probably won't listen to again is Stop Lyin'.

::) I especially like the view that this album sucks because dpg aren't 'creative' or 'deep'. If you want deep get the Ice Cube album, if you want creative go buy anything Quannum or Hiero put out. Dogg Pound have never been what you'd call personal. Whatever though, to me this is straight, 4/5 easily. Not as good as the Cube album but definitely something I'll be bumping when Summer comes around (down here).

On a side note - these were the exact same reactions to the 213 album, and that grew on people heaps. Then again, I never hated the 213 album either. Or R&G for that matter. People just need to hate, i guess

Please someone tell me how Nate Dogg is on this album? He doesn't say anything, it doesn't even sound like him, he doesn't even say a word. Its just a noise in the background.

Battlecat really dissapointed me here. Cali Iz Active is dope the rest is below average.

Tracks that I like:

Cali Iz Active
Its Craccin
Sittin on 23's
Slow Your Roll
Faknass Hoes
Dont Sweat It

So thats 6 tracks out of 16.

Lyrically: horrible
Production: alright

This is definetly one of the worst albums in 2006.

Post by: Digital Pimpin' on June 20, 2006, 09:00:51 AM
Yeah, Soopafly's production is on point - his release will probably be the best DPGC album this year (bar Snoop).

I reckon in a year's time people will look back and say Cali Iz Active wasn't bad at all, like with the 213 album - it took me a year to get over the hype and expectation and listen to it for what it was.

So far, Throwin Up Da C is my fave track.

I dunno guys... Dogg Pound 10+ years later sounds pretty good to me still...

I really enjoyed bumpin' this album so far and I'm most def coppin this one. Dogg Pound is my favorite group of all time and I'd much rather listen to what they have to offer than some stupid Crunk beats and G-Unit stuff. Sure, it's not that Death Row days Kurupt and Daz, but what do you want? They makin' music the way THEY want to now. Be happy that they still doing it and that they back as a unit.

This album has a nice vibe... I'm feelin' it.

Im old school too and im loving this album. It may not be like the good old classic DPG album but this shit is definently worth buying if your are into DPG.There are a few laid back tracks which i like but there are also some tight banger on there which makes this album a 4/5 stars in my book.

Well I haven't listened to all of it yet, but its not bad.  The beats definately make the album.  people who wanted daz to produce this, well it probably woulda sounded just like that last dillinger and young gotti album they dropped.  This definately is no where near the level of Dogg Food, but it is good westcoast rap music to listen to.  There are some heaters, and some average, and maybe a couple of skippers.

i think its a solid album.  I was hearing all these people on the other tread saying how it was the worst album they had ever heard and it was just trash and i wasnt gonna download it but then i seen this tread and thought maybe it is a good album.
I think the beat on number 10 (its all good) is one of the dopest beats i have heard in a long time
