Title: LAKERS To Sign Veteran Point-Guard...
Post by: Now_Im_Not_Banned on July 08, 2006, 07:00:59 PM

...........................................................
................................Shammond Williams

A 31 year old 6'1" 200 lbs point-guard with career averages of 6.1 PPG (40.1% FG, 36.3% 3FG) and 2.5 APG in 17 MPG throughout 6 seasons with Atlanta, Seattle, Denver, Boston, Orlando, & New Orleans (1998-2003)...He then fled to Russia to recieve more playing time and develop his game...Now he's back, and word is that Phil Jackson was heard leaking out his signing with the Lakers on the radio...Dunno how legit this is, but this doesn't sound too great...Who knows though, Smush Parker turned out to be much more than we expected and I'm hoping the same for Shammond...I really want/wanted Kareem Rush though... :-\

The Lakers don't need another point guard. They already have Parker, Banks, and Farmer. :P They should have gotten Rush as a SG.

Lakers never ended up signing Banks...LOL. Our PG rotation is currently Smush, Farmar, & Vujacic...That's why many believe we're still lacking in that area...I dunno how true the Shammond Williams signing is, but Kareem Rush is currently playing on Orlando's summer league team...PeACe

Dunno, haven't seen his current play in Russia...But this is how the team would probably look if the signing went down...

PG Smush Parker...Jordan Farmar/Shammond Williams
SG Kobe Bryant...Sasha Vujacic/JR Pinnock
SF Lamar Odom...Luke Walton/Maurice Evans
PF Vladamir Radmanovic...Brian Cook/Ronny Turiaf
C Kwame Brown...Chris Mihm/Andrew Bynum

Not bad...It can work.

Shamond Williams A Laker?
By Mike Bresnahan, Times Staff Writer
July 9, 2006

The Lakers are close to a deal with Shammond Williams, a 6-1 guard who has played with six NBA teams. The Lakers are trying to complete financial discussions with Williams' pro team in Spain.

Williams, 31, has career averages of 6.1 points and 2.5 assists with Atlanta, Seattle, Boston, Denver, Orlando and New Orleans. He last played in the NBA in the 2003-04 season.

The Lakers, who agreed to terms last week with former Clippers forward Vladimir Radmanovic, could sign Williams with their biannual exception, which allows teams that are over the salary cap to sign a player for about $3.5 million over two years.

They should have kept Van Excel. He had a killer 3pt. just because he cracked a dumb joke? He would'nt be with mighty San Antonio if he was wack.

You're a moron and a Laker dick-licker, not a fan...5 years down the road, you'll forget you even liked the Lakers...You're that type of a fan, it's obvious.

Before you jump all over this pick up, sit back and think about it for a second. Last year we had good production from the point guard spot, but we needed a veteren presence. Mckie was supposed to be that, but he didn't work out... With the amount of money we are spending the options are very limited. You can't judge this pick up until he steps on the court. Judging it now, unless you've been following him in Europe, means that you're judging on emotion... The only thing we do know about Shammond is that he was dominating in the Euroleague. He probably won't start, he'll come off the bench and provide expierence, which our team really needs, but we have really no way of knowing, so any judgements at this point are useless. The only way to see if this is a good pick up is to wait and see how he does...Get off Mitch's dick, we've been having a good off-season so far. Not saying this is a great signing, but like I said, we'll just have to wait and see...PeACe

LOL@I'll never look at you the same. Very sad, this is the internet. :grumpy: You're hurt because I don't consider you a Laker fan and that means so much to you...E-Crazy is a joke, never once has he made a post exposing anything new about me. He's a pathetic, drama-queen Clipper fan and it's even more pathetic that you're on his dick...Many people from this board who know me in person know that I met famous people through rapping...Don't feel bad and try to switch the subject because you have nothing to say, you are simply an anti-Laker...A dreadful pessimistic "fan" who only makes negative judgements :-*

Smush Parker sucks.  I didn't get to watch him all year but in the playoffs I saw the other team leaving him wide open for jumpers and just waiting for the rebounds, the guy sucks at shooting, at best he's a streaky, inconsistent shooter, at worst he deserves to be playing for And1.

LOL...You can't comment on him at his best, since you only saw him in the playoffs, which was him at his absolute worst...He performed horribly in the playoffs, but fared well in the regular season, and actually gave Laker fans way more than what they expected...He's a good spot up shooter (45% FG, 37% 3FG), he just needs to work on creating shots for himself off the dribble and strengthen his man defense...He'll definitely be better next year with some more experience under his belt...PeACe

No way man...  Remember you heard it from me... This guy will be out of the league in 3-5 years, I don't even think they'll accept him in Europe.  He'll be playing for AND1.

Lakers Add Guard Shammond Williams to Mix
Broderick Turner
By BRODERICK TURNER
The Press-Enterprise

LONG BEACH - Shammond Williams, who has been out of the NBA for the past two seasons, has agreed to a one-year contract to join the Lakers.

Williams' agent, Bill Duffy, said his client will sign for the biannual exception of $1.75 million today.

Duffy said the holdup had been working out a deal to buy Williams out of a contract with his old team in Spain, which Duffy said is "pretty much done."

Williams, a 6-foot guard who is best known as a shooter more than a "true" point guard, is the second free agent with whom the Lakers have agreed to a contract.

Vladimir Radmanovic agreed on July 1 to the mid-level exception that will pay him about $29 million over five years. Radmanovic, who played for the Clippers last season, will sign his contract today, the first official day free agents can sign. Radmanovic, a 6-10 forward known for his outside shooting, will be introduced at a news conference today.

There's one last roster spot open for the Lakers 2005-2006 season...Currently, it looks as if Devin Green, Von Wafer, and JR Pinnock are the main ones battling for it...
