damn, ive been reading up and watching the promo for this over the last week and it looks and sounds incredible...
- the unit looks sleek as hell!
- the controllers look ridiculously ingenious (especially with the 'nunchuck' think for movement)
- the initialy launch games (mainly zelda) look dope - plus with the line up of third party already in place it looks like developers could give
- nintendo its best array of games/choice to date (PLUS the development pack for WII is $2,000) for PS3 its going to be $20-30,000)
- the online console is a GREAT idea - you can download games from NES,SNES,N64 etc to your WII and save them and play them
- Game cube discs can be used in the WII as can GC remotes and memory cards!
- memory slots are SD Cards which means versatility and can use them for multiple things rather than just being for a games console
theres so many other good features it seems to be an awesome console...AND FOR THE BARGAIN LAUNCH PRICE RUMOURED TO BE AROUND Ģ150 which is about $250!
any other thoughts on this? i think with a good games programme in place (i dont think game names in dev for 2007 has been released yet) then this could be huge!!
-
I have a feeling it's gonna do much better than the Gamecube did. It's gotten a lot of good reviews, which is rare for things these days.
-
yup im very hyped for the wii, prolly gonna end up getting it on launch or soon after, gonna be a totally different way of playing games, the only thing that i can think of that some people may not be aware of is that its not really that all that powerful,i dont even think nintendo has released any graphical specs? (correct me if im wrong). Also hasnt it been said that its only slightly more powerful then the original xbox?
Im not dissin or anythin as im more hyped for the wii then the ps3 ,just want to let others no what to expect when u cop it..
-
and yea im thinkin the price will be $200 if its just the system and controller,250 if its bundled wit otha stuff, there gonna announce the official price and stuff in september :)
-
the thing thats best about nintendo wii imo is the look, it shits all over the design of the ps3 and xbox 360....i use to think the design of the 360 was nice and ps3 was wack but when i saw the ps3 with the silver lining, i switched opinion......but aint nobody fuckin with this design.........about the controller though, i am not sure what to think of it..........motion sensor or some shit right?? how can u tell the difference between intended movements and accidents or reactions to something with a machine?? not convinced yet, but i could be wrong.......
-
I think once you play it you'll change your mind about the controller movement, everyone that's reviewed it, that has actually played it calls it everyting from ingenius to mindblowing. Apparently they 'got it right'.
Personally, my prediction remains that the 360 will win this console war, followed by the ps3 and the wii, if all hell breaks loose the wii may actually overcome the ps3... kind of like how the ds is shitting all over the psp.
-
im gettin this no fuckin doubtt

Iīm hyped about it too. Although I gotta admit that Iīm not as hyped about it as I was after E3. Iīm just worried that the controller might turn into some sort of gimmick with special games.
With shooters it has to be the best thing in gaming history because finally you can really play a shooter on a console. I hated shooters on consoles cause the controllers wouldnīt let me play it like I wanted to. Regarding sensitivity of the cursor etc. Now the Wii controls are almost better than the classic keyboard/mouse combination. I just donīt know what to think about the swordfighting in Red Steel though. Somehow I have a feeling that they might have like 10+ preset swords animations and that it doesnīt really follows the movement of the player. Some developer talked about it in this article. Not really saying that that it would be that way but eh.. read yourself if youīre interested. http://blogs.ign.com/red-steel (http://blogs.ign.com/red-steel) Scroll down to blog entry #1.
I just canīt see the benefit of the controller in games like Madden. Iīd rather play that with the classic controller or the GC controller for that matter. Whatever. Iīm really looking forward to it and I might even pick it up on release date, which I never did with any console. For now I just trust the people who played it on E3 and were blown away by it and Nintendo, of course, who wouldnīt put out such a controller if they werenīt 100% behind it and itīs great functionality.

Everybody that's played Madden with the new controller says it rocks.
-
Im thinkin bout buying it.. but I gotta get ps3 too thats the thing.. maybe both is an option
-
oh yeah, whats the "development pack ?"

When Nintendo/sony/microsoft make a new system, they have to explain to the people that are going to develop games (ea sports, activision, capcom, midway, etc.) how the system works... and how to make a game for it. I.E. how the memory is handled, what you can and can't do, what the system is capable of it, what programming language it's in. Usually it's all stuff that Nintendo or Sony or whatever invented, their own language that the game needs to be coded in. Think of it as really complicated HTML. They need to send the developers a packet of material (usually a mockup system, special programs, etc.) or the developer has no idea how to make their program work with the system.
Nintendo is selling there dev. kit for 2 grand. That means that anybody can make a game (theoretically) for the Wii. Any company that has a good, creative idea for a game can buy the developers kit and work with Nintendo to get a game released, and not have to spend a TON of money making it.
Sony is charging 20-30 grand for theirs, so the only people that will be able to make ps3 games are companies that are pretty huge.
Now in the scope of things, this isn't a huge issue, because game developers spend hundreds of thousnads of dollars on each game in manpower to code it... but Nintendo (and several developers) have claimed that you can make 3 Wii games for the same price it takes to develop 1 PS3 game.
So say you're capcom. What do you want to do... make 1 new Resident Evil game for PS3, and hope it sells well, or make 3 new Resident Evil games for the Wii for the same price, and know nearly for a fact that you'll sell more than your 1 ps3 game would have with the 3 combined?
Also it gives rise to small independent developers who have a team of 7 or 8 people coding a game, like that cool-ass "sadness" game that's coming out on the Wii.
Nintendo basically lost their empire because they ignored their 3rd party developers; this time around, they're bending over backwards and going out of their way to make 3rd party developers EXTREMELY comfortable; it'll probably pay off big.

thanks for the blog...if your worried about the new controller in all games then get a cheap GameCube controller now, they are apparently going to be slots for you to plug those in if you choose, so at least there is choice :)

I got one. I used to have a second one for my Cube. Now when I look back I wish I didnīt throw it against the wall (several times lol) while playing WWE DoR.
Like Trauma said, I hope that small companies get really creative with the controller and make some nice games. Wii Sports is basically one of those titles that smaller companies could do. A bundle of minigames that make use of the Wii controller in a really innovative way.
I canīt wait for Resident Evil on the Wii.

It's moves like that that make me want to support the Wii evenmore. With that type of developer accessability, we will see tons of alternative gaming ideas. Nintendo really seems like the most innovative, and geared towards 100% gaming rather than all around entertainment centers, a la 360 & PS3. I own a 360 and love it, and I will also own a Wii.
-
Could someone finally please tell me if the Wii supports 5.1 sound or not??
-
I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. Nintendo's not that concerned with making their system hi-tech. It'll probably just have regular a/v outs and super video or something.

A 2006 game console with NO digitial output?!! :grumpy:
And I don't consider it hi-tech, more like a standard feature to me hope you're wrong about this...

this is what some dude said bout it:
It is using Pro-Logic II. While not as clear as DD or DTS, it still sounds good for all the games that used it on the Cube. Rebel Strike was amazing on my system. Not as loud as the SW movies, but it was better than good enough for my ears playing the game.

Are both of these the available controllers ? or is it just one of them

the first one is the one used to play wii games and the 2nd one is the controller to play the Virtual console games (NES,SNES,N64 etc)

Ah ok.. I gotta say I fuckin love the looks of the controllers. I dunno yet though cause I might go with PS3......

u might wanna take a look at the 360 too,cuz the wii is gonna be really different compared to the ps3 and 360, look at it like this: should i get a 360 and wii (for the same price of the ps3) or a ps3,i dont see how ppl can pick the ps3 over both the wii and 360...
-
The PS3 is gonna cost around Ģ420 in the UK. I don't think anyone can justify spending that much on a console with no games to start you off.

thats a very good point just Im not interested in a 360 at all so..

You could buy like a Wii and half the launch games for the price of a PS3 with no games.

To be honest Dolby Surround isn't cutting it for me anymore... Damn what a waste... :-\

^ If you're concerned about things like that, you'd be much better off buying a 360 or ps3... it's more aimed at someone interested in high-end electronics. The wii is aimed at people more concerned with creativity and the entertainment factor, the ps3 and 360 focus more on elite gamers who prefer technologically advanced games.

Well I already have both the old Xbox and the 360 and I'm still thinking of getting the PS3 (Tekken)...
It's just that I'm a little bit dissapointed with the Wii not supporting 5.1 sound cause IMO that adds so much more to the gaming experience but I would definitely consider buying it if a new Star Wars Rogue Squadron game will be released for it, 5.1 sound or not...
