Bryant, With No. 24, Has NBA's Best-Selling Jersey (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601079&sid=acXzo9Os6_1w&refer=home)
Jan. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Kobe Bryant's new number helped him regain the top jersey sales spot in the National Basketball Association from the Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade.
Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers' guard who switched to No. 24 from No. 8 this season, leads sales figures at the NBA's New York and on-line stores from the start of this season through Dec. 31, the league said. It didn't release sales figures.
The eight-time All-Star pick last held the top sales spot during the 2002-03 season, a year after his last of three titles with the Lakers and before he was accused of sexual assault by a Colorado woman. The charges later were dropped.
Bryant has said he made the switch because he wanted a new number for the second half of his career, and he chose 24 because it was his first high school number. He's guaranteed never to autograph another No. 8 jersey, and even auctioned off the last two he signed for about $5,100.
Wade's jersey became the best-seller in May 2005 and remained there as he led the Heat to last season's NBA title, where he was chosen as the most valuable player in the Finals.
The Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James ranks third in jersey sales, followed by new teammates Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets. Sales of Iverson's jersey have benefited from the Dec. 19 trade that sent him from Philadelphia to the Nuggets, helping him jump three spots on the list.
Reigning league Most Valuable Player Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns ranks sixth, followed by New Jersey's Vince Carter, Washington's Gilbert Arenas, Miami's Shaquille O'Neal and New York's Stephon Marbury.
The Lakers remained the top-selling team for the fifth straight year, while the Heat moved up one spot to No. 2. The Knicks, Bulls and Cavaliers round out the top five.
Adidas AG's Reebok brand is the exclusive supplier of NBA jerseys.

I said I wouldn't do it but even I went out and bought a number 24 jersey. I was so upset when he dropped the 8 that I didn't see myself ever liking the number. Guess it just took some getting used to.
I don't know why a Phoenix jersey is a top seller, that jersey is DISGUSTING. The shoulder parts cover your whole fuckin shoulder (like the 76ers jersey does). If it wasn't for that I would've got the 32 Stoudemire in 05.
-
Fuck Kobe!...and NIK.

Laker jerseys are pretty much like that too...But you can still get your Amare jersey if you don't like it:

Nah the shoulder parts on the Lakers swingman jerseys aren't like that. The only teams who have those long ass shoulders are the Rockets, Suns, 76ers, and the green Mavericks jersey.

Great ploy by the NBA to get the number change. Of course everybody was gonna go out and re-purchase a new one. I'm sure they'll do the same thing with Lebron and Wade in several years.

^^The NBA had nothing to do with it. If anything, it was Nike...

The classic Lakers jerseys were beautiful! I was hoping they'd re-release the gold Kobe throwback from his rookie season but they never did (and if they do it's gonna be number 24 now). I'll just get the Magic Johnson swingman.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! It was the #1 selling jersey at the NBA STORE in NY and the LEAGUE'S ONLINE MARKET. You don't think the NBA sees mad paper from jersey sales? The NBA had nothing to do with it? The fuck are you basing that on? Back up your statement. The NBA has to approve any numbers changes, and I guarantee you that the NBA gets an even bigger cut on anything sold at their official store in NY, which is where his jersey is the top seller. You're an idiot if you don't think the NBA didn't know that this would boost his jersey sales. Fuck, imagine if they had switched Lebrons / Wades jersey and it skyrocketed their sales. You'd probably cry.
And before you geeks get hard ons about this, get your facts straight. In nationwide retailers, its still between 3rd and 5th most popular. LOL at this propaganda thread.

Kobe Bryant again has the most popular jersey at NBA stores.
Bryant changed from No. 8 to No. 24 this season, and the switch probably had a lot to do with his moving up from fourth to first in jersey sales at the NBA Store in New York and at the league's online market.
Bryant, who last topped the NBA's list during the 2002-03 season, passed the Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade in jersey sales in NBA stores, but Neil Schwartz, who tracks sporting good sales for SportsOneSource, said Bryant's shirt is still anywhere from third to fifth in popularity nationwide.
The NBA's rankings are based on jersey sales at the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue in New York and at NBAStore.com from the start of the 2006-07 season through Dec. 31.
Schwartz said Bryant's jersey sales were hurt more by his feud with Shaquille O'Neal and the breakup of the championship Lakers than the scandal surrounding rape accusations in Colorado.
"I don't see this as a renaissance of his popularity," Schwartz said. "I see this as a great marketing ploy."
Wade, who had been on top since May 2005, fell to No. 2, one spot above LeBron James. Allen Iverson, helped by his trade to Denver, jumped from seventh to fourth, and Nuggets teammate Carmelo Anthony rounded out the top five.
Bryant helped the Lakers remain No. 1 in the team merchandise category for the fifth consecutive season. The NBA champion Heat moved up one spot to second.

Wow, someones catching feelings...The NBA had nothing to do with Kobe's decision to change his number, he notified them that he wanted it done after he already made the decision on his own, with rumors saying Nike encouraged him to do it due to Adidas re-releasing all of his previous KB8 shoes around the same time Nike was coming out with the Kobe Zoom 1s. The league only has to approve it, it wasn't their decision to have him switch...PeACe

LOL @ this guy obviously being upset. You have to admit that it is funny that in reality he's still 3rd most popular at best.
I wouldn't say that. Kobe's been in the top 5 for the same jersey that has been out for like 8 years. Wade and Lebron topped the list because they're new and hella popular. Iverson is just the man.
Very true. And Iverson's is def pushed by the fact that he's now on the Nuggets and peeps gotta rush out and get that shit so he's gonna be inflated a bit.
I'm not even talkin about Iverson from this year. Check out where he's been ranked in jersey sales for the last few years...

Yeah word. I just meant that it's really gonna push him being on a new team and all.
