i remember watching that hip honors shit when they were inducting Ice. They said he was responsible for breaking down the doors for the West Coast and incorporating the pimp game on wax.
i disagree. thats just me though.
i was wondering, when someone asks "who was the first big rapper on the West? or Who put that pimp game shit on wax?"
Who do you give the credit to? $hort or Ice?
and by the way, those fuckers at VH1 better honor $hort soon or the Dangerous Crew Movement we got going is gonna fuck the next ceremony up.

I don't know when Ice-T came in the game but Short Dogg is around since '84, I guess he is the real pioneer.

I Agree.
-
As far as I know, $hort's been rappin' since 82-83 and probably the same could be said as Ice.Commercially, Ice made more noise in 84 with his song "Killers" which made he to be known as one of the first political rappers. Then with "6 In The Mornin'" he was one of the first gangsta rappers. That's what history tells us about him (briefly).$hort on the other hand has always been known as the first to incorporate the pimpin' game on wax
However, agin commercially, Ice was the first big rapper on the west
And fuck yeah, they should honner $hort.I gotta say it tho, VH1 is probably one of the few to pay homage to the Hip-Hop greats
-
I don't know prolly nuthin' about Too Short but Ice had 'The Coldest Rap' out in '83.
I don't know how much it broke down the doors for pimp game in the West Coast. The record just sounds like everythang else coming out at that time, just aside from being that Ice is from the West.
I don't know, I always thought of Ice bein' more 'pimpish' later on becuz to me, he was more 'gangsta' wit it. Especially with the '6 In The Mornin'.

SHORT DAWG!!!
-
I always viewed Ice-T as more of a gangsta rapper, and Too $hort as more of a pimp game type rapper. I too agree that $hort needs to be honored by VH1, and please stop having Fat Joe as a guest artist. I'm sick of seeing that fool doing all these covers.
-
They both started making records at the same time and they both signed a deal with a major record deal at the same time too. Around 86 or 87 T signed with Sire Records and Short signed with Jive. Before that they were both on small labels. But even doe Short sold more records than Ice T, T has been more known all over the world. Probably coz of that whole "Cop Killer" controversy. But yeah Too Short should be honored too. They're both legends.
-
Both are dope as fuck. I bump both of em on the regular 8)

i dont really play alot of ice t, but short dog is 1 of my favourites 8)

Same here andToo $hort is known for spittin some pimp shit more than G-Shit, and with Ice T its the other way around
-
its not only about who started what. think from Born to Mack all the way to Gettin It and how many albums hes sold, how many back to back platinum records he has.
its a shame really.

i was never feelin Ice ..Short dogg is dope is dope as fuck though
-
Love Too $hort, although after Album Number 10 came out I wasn't feeling his music as much as his earlier releases.
Ice-T on the other hand deserves his props, although his wiki page says he was a pimp among also being a musician, actor, enterpreneur, in the army, etc...
-
Too $hort by a landslide. I've never fell for Ice T 's story. He's a phony IMHO.
-
Why when there is two rappers in a same topic some people feel obliged to diss one of them? ::)
BOTH are dope, yeah they are in a different kind but they both have dope tracks! You can't fuck with Ice-T's Six In The Morning, neither with Short's Invasion Of The Flat Bootie Bitches!
-
They both started making records at the same time but Ice-t become a legend. Too short is still an avarage rapper on the west coast. But ice-t is the godfather, you know i'm sayin'. Ice-T is a rapper that every rapper (we listen today) influenced by him.

When I think of a pimp/player in this rap shit, I think immeditely think of $hort...when I think of OG gangsta, I automatically think of Ice...I think they are both well-respected and both originated they're own personas in their own ways....but $hort has been a mack since day one and never changed his style or persona...I think Ice kinda started out on the gangsta shit tip, and kinda incorporated the pimpin' side of him as he grew....

Short's tha Pimp, Iceberg da Gangsta. I like em both, they both were the pioneer of their genre/theme, so I guess it's a draw for me

Too Short..Hands down!! Born 2 Mack
-
Yes I agree, they can't be compared, they just need to be put aside and they both deserve props as pioneers!
-
Ice-T is better,is a first o.g. rapper
-
i think that theyre both great in their own way....and its more like a draw...ice-t with his shit gangsta/pimp while short with his pimp/playa shit....that both of em deserve to be recognized as pioneers of not only the west but hip-hop aswell....they've been there, done that, and have sold plenty of records, and have many hit records that got influenced in hip-hop... its a shame that vh1 never acknowledged sum 1 like short dog, but whatever...they aint about hip-hop n e ways...
-
music Too short but ICe T is quite the character lol

LMFAO!

I'ma have to go with Short mainly because he is more current to my time. Ice T's best work was a little bit before my time so when I listen to it, it always sounds soutdated. Ice has released a few albums over the years, bust mostly garbo to my ears and while he's definitley not the best rapper imo, at least Short has a loooong track record of at LEAST solid albums to listen too.
