Title: LOL@Kobe not being a leader... Haters like Jakob make me sick.
Post by: Now_Im_Not_Banned on July 24, 2007, 01:18:16 PM
"Anybody would love to play with Kobe. We love it, the way he is meshing with the other guys here. You never have to worry about what Kobe is going to bring to the table." - Carmelo Anthony

Why the fuck is Kobe leading Team USA? NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY WITH HIM!! LeBron, known for being a true leader, should be the one in charge!!! LeBron=GOAT. Kobe is the worst teammate ever.

LMFAO.

Yea, this thread is really not to debate who's better, because there's obviously not a debate there. But I've noticed a trend on this board of people claiming Kobe is not a leader, he's not a team player, no one wants to play with him etc. etc... and that somehow LeBron is a one-of-a-kind saviour, a great teammate you can depend on, and an amazing player with endless leadership ability. It was played out to the point where LeBron, in their eyes, was the leader Kobe could never be (<LMFAO)...If you know what's up, you know what's up...PeACe

A fatass? No way, dude...He just said that Jason Kidd is something you don't pass up, if it means you have to wait 10 years for Bynum to develop. Never "talked shit".

1. overall kobe is the best player in the league
2. however, he's not a great leader
3. nothing in that statement says that he's a great leader, infact it just says that he's meshing well, and that you don't have to worry about him not showing up and scoring.
4. also team USA needs a positive team vibe so that they actually get that gold, it would be STUPID to create tension or call out players and point out their negative aspects. hell if i was on team USA and was trying to get the gold i'd call kobe jesus christ ,lol.
5. you =bigger shaq hater than i =kobe hater.

He's not a great leader, yet he's been picked to lead the best players in the world. He was a captain on each of the Lakers championship teams. YOU ARE A HATER. Don't randomly bring Shaq into this discussion like an obsessed groupie, he is NOT a player on my team, he is a player who turned on my team(/and city)...PeACe

it doesn't say anything about him penciling him in as the SOLE CAPTAIN of the team, lol

“It’s his time,” USA Basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski said of Bryant. “He’s 27 years old now. He should try to assume a position of leadership in the team. I would think he’s very hungry to do this. I see him fitting in very, very well.”

meaning , he's still in his prime and he needs to step up his leadership.  even with that said, he's still a co-captain with at least Melo who at performed him in the blue/white game.  plus even if he was the SOLE captain that's no way to win!

the 1992 dream team won because they put egs aside and played as a unit
the 1996 dream team won because they put egos aside( and beefs) and played as a unit
the 2000 dream team won because for the most part they put egoes aside and played as a unit
the 2004 team LOST because too many egoes
the 2006 team was a good starting point for a turn around.
the 2008 team will win, because they have a weapon in kobe bryant that can't be stopped, love him or hate him, that's the truth, leadership will be shared though, believe that.

i can see kidd being another leader, he definately should be. however carmelo anthony was the best performer in the last tourny, and definately held his own on the same team as Kobe, there's no way you can uninclude him as a co-captain.

Yeah since last year Melo has been on another planet but I don't think he's ready to be put in a leadership role. He barely has playoff experience.

he was in the leadership role last year and they did very well (until they met greece). so i think he's more than capable of being one of the co-captains.

Already forgot about 2002 ? Teams in 02 , 04 and 06 didn't lose because of their egos... the main reason is the lack of shooters then the lack of some Team D in some games (Greece in 06, Lithuania in 04...) believe it or not , there are some great teams outside Team USA...

I think people confuse being a great leader, and being a great player. Two very different things. Obviously Kobe is a great player. But its no wonder that most people outside of the Laker fanbase dont consider him a great leader. Through his own talent he is able to will his team to victory at times, but that alone isnt going to win championships. To be a great leader you HAVE to have the respect of your teammates. It is also very helpful for your teammates to actually like you. You never get the feeling (as you did with MJ, or Magic, or Bird, etc) that Kobe's teammates are willing to go to war with him, or for him. He doesnt bring that out of people. You can post up all the numbers, and quotes to the media you want....it means nothing. Kobe will more then likely always and forever be seen as a great player, who wasnt a great leader. Unless something drastically changes in the next few years. Great players and great leaders dont always have to be the same person. There have been tons of great players who couldnt lead....and likwise, tons of great leaders who werent great players. Very rarely are they combined into one person.

You MIGHT be right, but you have to keep one thing in consideration, everything Kobe does is taken with a few grains of salt. When guys like Nowitzki, Lebron, Bosh, or Nash yell at their teammates - the media says they're stepping into leadership roles. When Kobe yells (or in his case even frowns) at his teammates - they say yelling at your teammates is not a good thing for a leader to do.

Personally, I think Kobe deserves credit for the way he came out last season. He was passive, encouraging, understanding, and really doing all the things you want from a leader. Unfortunately for him, none of his teammates were mature enough to grow into the players they had the potential to be, so Kobe had 2 choices: 1. keep trying to prove he's a leader and miss the playoffs, 2: take the do-it-yourself route and score 50 points a night till we make it to the post season.

Too bad its a lose-lose for him. If he's passing a lot they call him selfish and say as a leader he needs to know to take more shots. Then when he takes more shots then he's selfish and the exact type of player who can never be considered a leader.

If Kobe wasn't a great leader, Lakers wouldn't have made the playoffs these past 2 seasons. Believe that. As with Jordan, Kobe demands perfection from everyone around him. The only reason you see them as not only different, but OPPOSITES (which is ludicrous) is because of the media pictures painted of both images...PeACe

A lot of teams made the playoffs the last two seasons, so what. Kobes a great player, thats why they made it. Theres other great players who probably would have taken them to the playoffs aswell. Shit, Iverson brought his team to a finals damn near all by himself. Kobe can DEMAND perfection all he wants, but he does nothing to actually inspire it. Face it, he just isnt that inspirational kinda guy and never will be. Praise him for his attributes and stop trying to pretend that his flaws dont exist.
