dear god, I'm 9 tracks into this record and this is what I've needed in my life
funky production(ant)
non gangster but still street
a brilliant virgo(slug)
an amazing west coast MC(murs)
original concept and everyone bringing their a-game. i can't BELIEVE that song dirty girl. i was expecting some dumb ass hoe song but Slug talks about a chick that works at the auto-shop changing his oil that he finds really attractive and Murs talks about this chick that works at a burger stand in pasadena that he digs. fucking amazing. this shit inspires me.
and the ho song that happens soon after is brilliant, Murs is talking about this atmosphere fan chick that he banged using all kinds of clever atmosphere references, it's awesome.
anyway, i know this record has beeeen out but me and my friends were not impressed with felt's first outing (you could tell it was a bet, and the production was eh) but this record is out of this world.
this fools murs may save the west coast yet if his new record has a good balance of shit like this and shit like his dumb ass single

morris day and i shot a warhol are my shit

That would be a dream..but Once A rapper puts out an Album, rarely do they stick to the formula that they exhbited in thier mixtape..though..so I don't Know... :-\ :-\
-
felt II isn't a mixtape it's an album.
i don't want him to stick to a formula. just the level of quality and original writing
-T

Glad to hear you checked it out, T. I love the album...there are many good tracks like "Morris Day", "Marvin Gaye", "Dirty Girl", "Woman Tonight", and "I Shot a Warhol" but my favorite is easily "The Biggest Lie." This song is so incredible when you're in your vehicle at a high speed cruisin' and blunted or off a couple of drinks. I feel like one of those NASCAR motherfuckas at that point.
Felt 3 is either done or in the works so 8)
-
I was only feelin bout 3 tracks on the album, dirty girl, woman tonight, and another one i forget the name of. Though I def think Murs is dope as fuck, I jus don't like the majority of ant's beats & slug's rhymes!
-
a while back when you asked about murs you refered to him as the dude who did all those awful albums wit slug........my response was that you were trippin' and that felt 2 was rediculous.......im glad you have come to your senses.......its a great album.........'breaker down like a shotgun' is still my shit.........
-
Good album! Murs is the truth, I've been sayin' it for years.

my homey that is a good source of music to me that i trust got felt one, which was a bet they made we found out later i guess, and that was whack and that turned us off of felt and turned us off of Murs. until we heard 3:16 the 9th edition and we've been down with Murs since.
my friend still hates on murs/felt because of felt one. i burnt him felt II and he says the same shit about felt II that he did about felt 1. i suspect he didn't even listen to felt II. he can be a grouch sometimes, especially when he feels let down by cats.
that said, i was never out of my senses. you can believe i am always coming from a legitimate place.

Track 13, "The Biggest Lie" on Felt 2 is one of the realest songs I have heard in a while. The whole album is great.
-
Great album!

nah, i didnt really mean it like that man......props for making a thread about the album, heads need to be up on it
-
sorry if i came off as snappy back to you, i didn't mean it like that either. props for being up on the album!
man, i just finished listening to the record. fucking flawless album.
ant is a better west coast producer than alot of west coast producers. funk and N.W.A samples and shit, dude is sick.
other west coast artists would be wise to seek him out as a producer for at least a track or two here or there
i wonder if murs'll have him do a track on murs for president
i need felt one though. i remember hearing it but i've never owned it. i need to give it a full context listen. THAT'S how much I like felt II
-T
-
^ Shall I up Felt I ?
-
yup, Dirty Girl is a great song in every sense. Murs for President!

if you're down yeah, maybe in the HUS though

there's also a Felt II comic book I'm borrowing from my local comic shop guy who's also a huge hip hop head.
it's drawn/written by jim mahfood, same guy that did alot of kevin smith's clerks comics art.
it's dope, the comic follows the course of the album. there's a splash page (two page spread) for every song. hilarious shit. the 'your man's and them' spread alone is worth the 2.95 price tag.
also, do yall know what they are referring to in 'i shot a warhol', like what a warhol is and all that?

Felt, moreso Slug, always raps in metaphors, but I'm pretty sure they are rapping about Andy Warhol who was a very popular painter and film maker in the 60s and 70s. There are a couple lines in the chorus that gave it away like "I shot a Warhol dead with my pistol/when the wind hit the hole in the canvas, it whistled" and "Nostrils of cocaine, cocktails to kill time/scenes from a bad film, lived out in real time". Also Andy Warhol was shot in Mario Amaya studio in 1968 by someone who had submitted a script to him, but he said he misplaced it.

I got a question, in "I shot a warhol" is slugs vocals layered over a quieter Murs rapping the same thing? cuz i feel like i can hear them both even though it is mostly a slug song
-

Yeah Murs added his voice behind Slug's, as well as the adlibs. I don't know why, but it sounds like it has a little more depth. Considering Andy Warhol was so abstract in his art, they probably wanted to do something a little different in that respect.

Yo man ive never even heard of these guys before but im downloading this now LOL, it better be as good as u make it sound lol!!!

There was a few of them, i downloaded the one that said "Felt 2 a Tribute to Chrictina Ricci" there was another one that said "

Listened to it, not my kind music LOL!!!
You'd probably like "Gangster Ass Anthony" on Tribute To Lisa Bonet. From the sounds of it, you downloaded the first one dedicated to Christina Ricci. That one kinda sucks, even to those of us who like that kind of music.

true that.....yeah, the second felt album is much better, mainly cuz they took time with it, as opposed to the first felt album (which was done during the course of a weekend from my understanding)......and to johnny1000, check the second album and have an open mind.........i know your young and some of the subject matter might go over your head (no offence, but its just not typical rap topics and based off your responses.......y'know).....as far as what they rap about, think of stuff that anyone can relate too, you know, real life shit (women, state of hip hop, and more women).........not gangbanging fairytales that no one up in here is living........and murs still keeps it street throughout the whole album

LMAO call it dickish, but I was asking to see if yall knew.
I know who andy warhol is. he was an artist heavily associated with the velvet underground.
there's also a scene with him in the doors movie.
he did that famous banana album cover. he's friggin' amazing.
anyway, two things
1)i always felt I shot a warhol was more of a Murs song than a slug one cause Murs sounds louder on it, but they're layered yeah
2)they're saying they shot a warhol picture, cause when the wind hit the hole of the canvas it whistled. they shot the painting. the idea is 'i destroyed/shot/hurt something beautiful and through this poem, something else beautiful is created'
yeah any hippie that doesn't know andy warhol ain't worth their salt. i was just wondering how you guys saw him if you saw him at all and for fear of sounding more dickish i refrained from saying 'do any of yall know who warhol is...without wikipedia?'
what about salvador dali, anyone fuck with him?

I knew of Andy Warhol before I read the wikipedia, although, I probably haven't seen any of his work. If it comes out of Minnesota, I'm repping it, so since Dylan and Warhol were friends, sort of like Prince and Morris Day, I have some general knowledge about them.
As for Salvador Dali, I have heard the name but nothing else about him is coming to mind. I'm sure if you told me, I probably would have heard of something he has done.

man shut the fuck up
-
just heard felt 1.
shit is okay, the only really dope song is 'hot bars' but it's an 'eh' album for real.
anyway, I don't like all slug and murs anti-marijuana sentiment.
there's a song on felt 1 where this hot ass chick offers a hit of her blunt and they're like nah we don't smoke
and on felt II, murs talks about kicking a chick out of bed cause her breath is so blunt-y.
what a bunch of fuckin' squares.
and this other song Murs says 'i used to go to parties get weeded and stand around'
and on felt 1 he's talking about zombies that smoke blunts and shit. I'm like get the fuck outta here with that, ain't you from cali? Just cause your mom and dad run your merch booth and shit and you've seen your dumb hood ass friends fuck up with drugs it ain't weed's fault.
but hey, i'm hella biased. still felt 2 is the shit.
outside of that though, coo'.
-T
-
murs doesnt drink or smoke now. he used to, but i think its been a long while. murs used to sell weed in berkely on telegraph..
even though i smoke a lot, at the same time i understand his perspective though. Theres a reason that hes the king of the underground right now, and his hustle is impeccable. Its because he doesnt have any drugs/alcohol cloudin his mind, and at any point hes 100% conscious of the decisions that he is making.
-
i'm not really hating, which is why i said:
"but hey, i'm hella biased. still felt 2 is the shit.
outside of that though, coo'."
BUT I don't think weed/alcohol hampers other people's success if used creatively.
cause if we're talking strictly from a hustle perspective I think Nas, 50, and Kanye all have Murs beat and at least two of those dudes drink/smoke. what Murs should be propped for is his great balance of artistry and hustle but his hustle would only be impeccable if he dumbed his shit down to the lowest common denominator and made up a dance. but he ain't tryna do that(legitimately so)
so I see what you're saying, but I see his hustle and drug intake as two totally different things.
i think coming from the underground, you have to be as accessible as possible to have monetary success and things like drinking/smoking can be polarizing so it's a smart business move to have that straight edge image. cause if he smoked/drank but didn't shoot people/talk about violence and gangs people that are not educated about hip hop would be lukewarm on him and think he's a half gangster rapper/lukewarm gangsta rapper. Cause you gotta be one extreme or the other from a marketability stand point.
gangsta rappers are 'so' bad so they sell themselves like that. Boy bands are so 'sweet/good' so they sell themselves like that. Murs and rappers like Murs market themselves to be like an every man "I don't have a big house, guns, or bling..I'm just like you" and they can say that and get more people to believe that if they don't limit themselves to the minority, which is people that get inebriated versus people that don't/separate that part of their lives from their identity vehemently.

agree for creative purposes, but it definitely impedes your hustle and work ethic. Basically, its like for every minute you spend drinking/smoking, you could have spent that minute thinking about new business opportunities or other ways to achieve success.
cause if we're talking strictly from a hustle perspective I think Nas, 50, and Kanye all have Murs beat and at least two of those dudes drink/smoke. what Murs should be propped for is his great balance of artistry and hustle but his hustle would only be impeccable if he dumbed his shit down to the lowest common denominator and made up a dance. but he ain't tryna do that(legitimately so)
if you think about the recent rock the bells/paid dues tour that made their way all over the country through like 14/15 cities, you know Murs was just about entirely responsble for holdin down the Paid Dues part. Paid Dues is his creation and his tour, the first and only independent hip hop tour. He was responsible for all 36 underground rappers that travelled in those 3 buses. Murs 3:16 presents Paid Dues. Warner Bros wasnt even there for support.
You look at Kanye,50,and Nas, theyre all so big time, that they can afford to have an entire team to help them out with their hustle. thats why Kanye and Nas get anywhere is because they have a whole team at their record label to back them up. They can afford to drink/smoke and act wild sometimes. 50 has over $100 million to back him up, but I aint going to deny 50s hustle, cos he put himself on the map real hard, but Nas' is definitely questionable.... There really hasnt been an indy rapper that has sold as many albums as Murs has besides like Slug.. Murs has like 10 albums, each sold 50,000, and that was all prior to signing to Warner Bros. He legitimately got a deal, as opposed to a lot of these new rappers getting deals off their relationships and co-signs
so I see what you're saying, but I see his hustle and drug intake as two totally different things.

agree, and its just good for a change to hear an album with no swearing, each swear word could have been replaced with a much more effective and meaningful word. why confine yourself to these 7 cuss words to express yourself?

yep, most definitely check it out. featured the singles "L.A.", "Murrays Revenge", & "Yesterday and Today". i put up some behind the scenes footage of the Murs LA video shoot in the youtube link in my sig.

^ Cool 8) ill check it fo sure!
The song called LA by Murs is a very ill tune.
The harmonica just sounds lovely as does the female background vocals, the beat bops well and Murs delivers some nice lines with a cool flow.
Had the tune playing all summer :)
Watch and listen (LA - Murs)
