Title: Game Console Questions
Post by: hisairness on November 25, 2007, 02:13:16 PM
I'm looking into finally buying a PS3 or 360.  I have a few questions:

For those of you own both, which do you prefer? Not only the game selection, but graphics, controls, etc.

Which format, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, has the better selection and which do you think will "win" out?

I got every current gen system except for the ps3. Its not that I dont like sony or anything as I have a PSP and a PS2 but there just arent any exclusive games out there that make me say "I need a PS3 to play this game" , the 360 has a much more better lineup of exclusives this winter and is killing it right now with AAA quality titles like gears of war, bioshock, mass effect even throw in halo 3 too. I definitely plan on getting a ps3 sometime in the future but probably not until a really solid exclusive comes out for it like God of war 3 or Metal Gear Solid 4. For games that come out on both systems, the 360 version is usually better (check madden 08). I have confidence in the ps3 and think it will turn out to be a sick system, it is just having a slow start. If I had to chose between the two RIGHT NOW  I would chose 360, hope this helps!

To let you know, ps3 won't be able to play older playstation games.. so that's one of the biggest downfall.

yea and if you want to play PS2 games on the ps3 u will have to get the more expensive PS3 (80gb) as the 40gb one doesnt have this feature

really!!!?? lame. lucky i got the 80 GB ps3 tho.

what Black Smoke say is true, there isnt a huge range out for ps3,but enough to satisy IMO. My advice is to get a ps3, both consoles are not terribly out doing each other right now, same games, same graphics, but i got confidence in the future of the ps3, the thing is powerful and developers are still learning it, thats why exclusive titles are taking awhile....

blue ray man, blue fuckin ray.

a player alone costs you over $300 bills.  why not just get the ps3 by adding a $100?

no offence but im tired of hearing people say that the ps3 has no good games when the 360 only has some lame ass aliengames...halo,gears of war,bio shock, mass effect whats the fucking difference between these games ???

Thanks for all the replies.  The backwards compatibility doesn't really mean much to me.  My main thing was trying to justify spending 400 for a game system plus the Blu-Ray and then having Blu-Ray go under.  Ya know?

The games for both interest me, my main concern was the Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.

Again, thanks, and any more info or opinions are welcome.

Why doesn´t the PS3 support backwards compatibility anymore? I mean, what the fuck?

I always thought that the backwards compatibility wasn´t all that and that not all games were compatible but now it isn´t none at all?

What´s the deal now?

The deal is they want more money by having you buy ps3 games.

The deal was that people were bitching about the price, so they had to remove some things in order to get a cheaper model out there. You can still buy an 80GB model, or even a 60GB if you can find one and get the backwards compatibility that you so desire.

I know that, hence the 'if you can find it'. Just saying that you have options if you want a backwards compatible PS3.

I guess... but eventually they won't have the option, right?

Eventually yes. No doubt somewhere down the line they will start offering downloadable PS2 games via the Playstation Network, as they currently do for PS1 games.

i own a 360 both i plan on buying a ps3 in 2 or 3 years when their will be great games on it. Like the other person said, a blue ray system alone is 300$. If microsoft gets a new platform out i'll buy it instead though, if it's worth it

So only the 60 and 80 gig versions offer backwards compatibility and they both are more or less gone from the market?

I´m asking cause a friend of mine (my PES partner ;) ) owns a PS2 and he is thinking about buying a PS3. Mainly because he/we could play the old games but now they´re not supported anymore?

the 60gb is pretty much gone from the market, the 80gb was released to replace it ,so as of now there are 2 models, the 80gb and the 40gb , the 40gb can not play ps2 games but the 80gb can

can't play all the games... it has limit to what it can play.
