Title: I should be getting an extremely rare Soopafly solo song from the DR era soon
Post by: Soopafly DPGC on April 21, 2008, 08:08:21 AM
Just hooked up it from a member here (no one famous).  He's selling me a CD that has a very rare Soopafly song that I have been looking for since my posts way back in 2003 when i first heard about it.  Cost me $120.00, but if this turns out to be a real unleaked song, this'll be awesome!  I'm hoping it's not just a renamed song, but we'll see.  He did offer me my money back if it turns out to be a song I already have.  It should be here in about a week.  Keepin it underwraps for now, as I don't want to jinx anything, but this could be be big!  p.s...it's not "50 Sac", but another song made about the same time.

Ah, I just told the dude to forget it....i found the same CD on Amazon.  It's called Gangsta's Most Wanted Episode 1 made in 2001.  I just ordered it off of there instead.  I'm taking a long shot though.  THe dude originally sent me a tracklisting that had track 15 "Drug Thing" by Soopafly.  But on Amazon, there's a slightly different tracklisting with 16 tracks and Soopafly is not on there!  But if you go to Rolling Stone's discography section http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/soopafly/discography he's listed as being on the CD.  So I don't know what to believe....i ordered it as i hope maybe it's a hidden track.  In any event, i saved 120.00 at least!

So far, Fly's death row era tracks are the best (other than this new Westurn Union stuff), so for me, it's worth it.  Now if it would have been a track from 2004 or so, a leftover from Doggystyle All-Stars or something like that, no way i'd pay it.

Well, i haven't bought anything from them yet and have managed to get all their releases  ;D ....but if they do drop the Inside Out Compilation with the 50 Sac track on it, I might have to bite the bullet....as long as they aren't charging an arm and a leg for it.  It probably won't have any unheard Pac on it, so that should keep the price down.

I skimmed through all the songs and none of them struck me as being particularly good.  I was in such a state of dissapointment and durest because the Soopafly song was not on there that I probably wasn't in the right frame of mind to give the CD a proper listen.  I don't follow Kokane very much (except when he's on songs with Soopafly), so I really don't know if those songs were released elseware or not.  The CD is an official compilation I suppose, although i've never seen it in stores anywhere, only online, but it's all pressed up nicely and it's not a bootleg.  I have no idea who Kcavie is, there are a few cats on this CD i've never heard of before.

im jus "shocked" as to how much you like soopafly and his muzik, cuz i think he could and should have put out more heat in the years he could have
but IMO he sounds dope on hi-tek production
and thats crazy he could have been a potential go-to guy for the west as far as production but not even that

yeah, it is too bad.  He could have been something big really, him and Daz were a great production team on the Row, when Daz left, Fly could have really stepped up and took over production for the Row, but for whatever reason, it didn't happen.  He seems kind of like Terrance Martin these days, where the dude is content with just staying out of the limelight.  If you look at alot of the famous songs from Death Row's heydey, Fly's on keyboards on alot of the earlier classic stuff, then later even produced some on it.  He really is a westcoast legend and if people would take the time to do their homework, they'd see it as well.

Well, if you're a fan of the "Death Row Era", i don't see how one couldn't consider him a legend....now if we're talking the Westcoast as a whole, well, he didn't work with alot of people outside the death row camp, and doesn't work with alot of people outside snoop's camp to this day.  So given the limitations he's had, i'd say Yes.  Guess it really depends what criteria one feels is needed to be considered a legend.  My thinking is this, look at the top 25 Westcoast albums from the mid 90's or so (when the westcoast was on top), and i bet almost half of them Fly had his hand in (either rapping, production, keyboards, instruments, etc.).

Got me thinking though, did Pac and Soopafly work with each other while they were on Death Row? I don't think there are any Pac Tracks with Soopafly production on them that have been released (I don't count "Out the Moon" b/c they added Pac's vocals to that song). Considering that Pac felt DR was family when he initially got out of jail, you'd figure he'd work with almost everyone on the label. It's not like Soopafly was as far down the chian of command as say 6 Feet Deep or BGOTI.

Got it already, and Soopafly ain't on it.  If Soopafly ain't fucking wit it, then I ain't fucking wit it.  Now if it were a Makaveli and Soopafly EP, i'd be all over that LOL.

LOL.

Soopafly was always working on the down low at DR during the time Pac was there.

I've always wondered why Pac didn't do many songs with DPG, including Snoop.

I remember hearing that Soopafly ghost-produced a lot of stuff Daz did in the mid 90's, not sure how true it is...as far as not recording as much with the DPG, 2pac had an incredible work ethic and was always in the studio writing and recording..he could do his verse quickly and record it for a track...at the time they (the DPG) didn't have that kind of ethic and it wasn't until he arrived that they kinda picked up the slack...Daz probably worked with Pac the most because of the production

props for dropping some wisdom.

I think it woulda been awesome had Fly worked with Pac. I could see Pac and Fly having a good time in the studio talkin' bout how many bitches they checked back in the day...

I better stop cuz I'm starting to sound like Soopafly DPGC.
