It's only a good trade if Mark has already agreed to sign long term with the Angels.

The Angels didn't ask for a window to negotiate an extension with Teixeira. But it's expected that they'll make a massive effort to sign him to a long-term deal, after trading away their every-day first baseman, and a player they were especially fond of, in Kotchman. Teixeira is a Scott Boras client, however. And early rumblings are that his initial asking price will be in the neighborhood of 10 years, $230 million.

nobody is paying Tex 230 million unless he wins the powerball

That price will drop once they realize that nobody is going to pay him that much money, and he will probably stay in Anaheim. I like the agressiveness by the Angels, they saw a way to improve their team so they went out and did it. They are definitely a force this year, but we'll see how it plays out in October.

big move for those boys. they had the AL west locked IMO...but now it makes them more legitimate title contenders (more than they already were).

The braves could have got more for him, but whatever, i'm pleased with the trade overall (considering we had no chance to re-sign teix). Now i'm just hoping this miserable season ends soon.

^^Yeah thats what I was thinking,  its good The Giants are staying away from trades like this,  We are obviously winning nothing this year so we need to prepare for the future, a trade like this for the Giants which would be a expensive rental that would be a complete waste, solid pickup for Angels but they gave up a really good young player.

Unless the money somehow vanishes in the upcoming off-season, you can also do it then.

The Giants have obviously committed to the "youth movement" this year, and have already packed it in. This was no more evident than last Saturday against Arizona, pulling Lincecum after the 7th inning even though he had just struck out the side. They wanted to watch his pitch count, and handed the game to Tyler Walker, who blew it. As for Teixeira, they seem set on John Bowker being the first basemen for the long haul, so it's not a need position.

The Angels are rolling, just beat the Yankees 12-6, and look unbeatable. I like the move to make them even tougher, but anything can happen in a 7-game series.

IM happy about that, hes gonna be nice. But we still need a  Big bat, or all this young pitching will go to waste for the next 4-5 years...

^^I'm happy with it as well, he has struggled lately, but we need the young guys to take their lumps and develop into what they could be. The team could definitely use more power, I wouldn't be surprised to see them look for a guy to play 3rd either this off-season or next who has some pop. Rowand isn't really a power hitter, but he can put it over the fence, Bowker will improve, and Lewis has a solid swing. If you put a nice power force in the middle of the lineup, it will open the hitting up.

This was a happy day in my life. We need to sign Vlad and K-Rod though. I'd sign them first, and then sign Tex. No one is giving him 23m a year, is he fuckin' crazy.
