dudes got some serious ups...the first one you posted, he took off outside the key and dunked on buddy which is really hard to do.  Vince Carter used to do that shit all the time back in the day.  It would be good to see Ariza in the DC this year for sure.

For real, dude's definitely young enough to do it too..

Hmmm...I don't know. He doesn't really seem like a dunk contestant type of dude. He's more of a great in-game dunker.

On a somewhat separate issue, I'm extremely disappointed Lebron was never in the dunk contest. You'd think a guy who's entire offensive game is based around dunking would be thrilled to atleast participate in the dunk contest once.

Obviously dude can do more but his offense is definitely centered around driving to the hoop, he definitely should have done that shit atleast once.

^He said from the beginning that he doesn't want to be remembered for his dunks. He doesn't want to be the next Vince, which is quite understandable. As for the topic, I think niggas are only allowed to participate during their first 2-3 years or some shit.

On one hand you say Ariza is more of an in-game dunker and on the other hand you say LeBron should be in the dunk contest...LOL. LeBron has one or two power dunks that he does over and over in games...Ariza's dunks>LeBron's dunks

seems like the players think they are too good for that shit anymore. Ego's need to get checked and get some fun back into all-star weekend.

It's not just that. A lot of superstars/veterans see a downside to being in the dunk contest. Imagine Kobe, LeBron, etc. competing and not winning. It would be embarrassing for them. Some where down the line, the dunk contest became a stage for younger guys and role players to get recognized. The vets don't want to risk it.

I can understand Kobe not doing a dunk contest.

1. He's already a dunk champion
2. The nigga just turned 30

But Lebron definitely should've done it, atleast for fun.

yup...which is great, because it stretches out the defense while Bynum and Gasol control the paint...and Odom can go in for either Bynum or Gasol and still grab his usual 10+ rebounds per game, leading the 2nd unit. come to think of it, our 2nd unit is lookin like a starting 5:

PG Jordan Farmar
SG Sasah Vujacic
SF Trevor Ariza
PF Lamar Odom
C Chris Mihm

^all starting quality players (when healthy)...shits scary. :o

even our 3rd unit is fire...

PG Sun Yue
SG Coby Karl
SF Luke Walton
PF Josh Powell
C DJ MBenga

You basically reiterated what ReLentLess said.  They need to check their egos.  Superstars compete in games and lose.  Slam Dunk contest is no different.  LeBron doesn't compete in slam dunk contests because he has no creativity.  All of his dunks are pretty much the same and emphasizes them with throwing them down harder.  He has hops though.

It's not that easy when an entire state is loving you and counting on you. Not everybody is as disloyal as Kobe.

Phil said his j is looking respectable. But I don't want him to fall in love with shooting (ala Maurice Evans). I want him to keep slashing and throwing it down.

I do not think  he will fall in love with the outside J ... it's just a matter of being wide open and being obliged to shoot it and knockin it down on a consistent basis  ... you have to make pay opponents for the double team , if not Ariza defender will help on Bynum/Gasol/Kobe every single possession

I wouldn't worry about him shooting out of sync.

Last year Farmar & Vucacic were killers off the bench. This year Farmar is playing well with Ariza. If those 3 can develop chemistry together with Odom in the mix this bench is gonna be insane.

^yup..our bench is better than some starting fives. :o

PG Jordan Farmar
SG Sasha Vujacic
SF Trevor Ariza
PF Lamar Odom
C Chris Mihm

All starting players on most other teams.

Farmar and Vujacic improved dramatically in the last season. I didn't have high expectations on Farmar, you know, but last summer he spent a lot of hours working on his body, he added some muscles, he lost weight, and he built a very efficient long range shoot. Sasha, on the other hand, improved dramatically on the defensive end, and you know he can shoot so if he can stay on the floor for a couple of minutes without letting his opponent score a lot of points, he can score a lot. I gotta give mad props to both of them and to Phil Jackson and the whole Lakers staff, they did an insane job with those 2 players. Ariza.... i was a fan of him when he was still in Orlando, and i was one of the most excited guys in the forum when we traded Cook and Evans to get him. I knew he was an excellent defender and a wonderful athlete, so he ain't surprising me at all. Odom.. well Odom we all know him (i told you guys Phil is gonna use him as a PF this year.. and it looks like i was right), and Mihm is a good underrated backup center. I mean he averaged like 10 points per game in his first season with us, he can score, he always scored quite a lot of points in his career, and he can make some fouls and block some shots. He's a good backup C, def.

P.S. The fact we have other good role players like Walton, Powell and Mbenga makes our bench the deepest in the league.

^I agree with everything you said, only I believed Farmar would become something and I'd say Mihm is a starting quality center when healthy.

Yeah, you liked Farmar since day-1. I didn't. But now (that he improved) i do.
And it's probably the opposite about Sasha Vujacic.
But the important thing is that now we both likes them.  ;D 8)
