^He said from the beginning that he doesn't want to be remembered for his dunks.

He said it before or after he resigned with Cleveland? ::)

So is Ariza going to start off the bench too? Who's gonna start? Radmanovic?

yup...which is great, because it stretches out the defense while Bynum and Gasol control the paint...and Odom can go in for either Bynum or Gasol and still grab his usual 10+ rebounds per game, leading the 2nd unit. come to think of it, our 2nd unit is lookin like a starting 5:

PG Jordan Farmar
SG Sasah Vujacic
SF Trevor Ariza
PF Lamar Odom
C Chris Mihm

^all starting quality players (when healthy)...shits scary. :o

even our 3rd unit is fire...

PG Sun Yue
SG Coby Karl
SF Luke Walton
PF Josh Powell
C DJ MBenga

seems like the players think they are too good for that shit anymore. Ego's need to get checked and get some fun back into all-star weekend.
It's not just that. A lot of superstars/veterans see a downside to being in the dunk contest. Imagine Kobe, LeBron, etc. competing and not winning. It would be embarrassing for them. Some where down the line, the dunk contest became a stage for younger guys and role players to get recognized. The vets don't want to risk it.

You basically reiterated what ReLentLess said.  They need to check their egos.  Superstars compete in games and lose.  Slam Dunk contest is no different.  LeBron doesn't compete in slam dunk contests because he has no creativity.  All of his dunks are pretty much the same and emphasizes them with throwing them down harder.  He has hops though.

It's not that easy when an entire state is loving you and counting on you. Not everybody is as disloyal as Kobe.
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

Fuck that. Kobe should be in the 3 point shootout like he was going to be last year.

Phil said his j is looking respectable. But I don't want him to fall in love with shooting (ala Maurice Evans). I want him to keep slashing and throwing it down.
