Title: WIDEAwake Starts Opening Death Row's "Vault"
Post by: EFFeX on March 21, 2009, 09:11:43 AM

Quote
There has been a lot of speculation on when WIDEAwake Entertainment would start releasing music from the vaults of Death Row Records. Well, AllHipHop recently ran an article that reveals the record label's first "teaser" release coming next month. The release will be a three track sampler which includes Crooked I's "Hoodstar", Petey Pablo's "Pay For P*ssy" and Danny Boy's "Do What You Do". While this is only a small selection of tracks hidden in the vault, it should be enough to get fans excited for more music scheduled to drop this fall. The music is dropping through "E1 Entertainment" which is the label formerly known as "Koch". Make certain that you head to the record store on April 18th to pick up a copy of this sampler.

While this is an extremely small release, it least it shows that they have good intentions.

Well, I guess April 18th, is a special day for Independent labels and record stores so they are tying the release into that...

Three tracks really is a huge teaser, but the way I look at it AT LEAST it shows that they are capable of releasing this music.

Yeah, I know.  Only 6,997 left. lol...I think for a sampler they could have made it a little bit bigger...maybe at least 5 tracks.  I've got singles that are longer than 3 tracks.  Oh well, it's still awesome we're getting an unreleased Crooked I track.  And for 3 tracks, I doubt they'll charge very much for it.

They'd be better off throwing in on iTunes / Amazon for only three songs. I don't know how many people are going to rush to the store for a hard copy, considering it'll probably be ripped and leaked real quick.

lol...Yeah.  I will, but the casual fans and regular people probably won't.  You'd think it'd be easier for them too.  That way they wouldn't have to press up any cds either.  On the other hand, I'd kind of like to get a hold of the cd anyway.  In another few years, you never know, it might be a collectable.

I'd rather have a physical version instead of just downloadable mp3s from itunes. so i think it's a good start. hopefully this is just the beginning and we'll get to hear more unreleased music this year. it can only get better

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this too. Instead of rushing something, they're throwin a bone out there, and I can't wait for that Danny Boy track.

You think shit from artists like Top Dogg, Chocolit Bandit, and Tha Realest will be distributed through these guys? They weren't the most popular, but definatley part of an era.

Can't knock it. All depends on the price. I'd have done at least 8-10 tracks though but let's see how this turns out.

It's very possible...

I know that they are going to be doing compilations so even if they don't get an album release, maybe we'll see their names on the compilations.

Who knows? Maybe we'll finally get physical product from some of these artists we've been waiting nearly ten years to hear.

Personally, I think that's were most of tracks from artists like Top Dogg and Tha Realest will end up.  Also, if they're still planning on doing the pay download thing on their website, I bet we will have the opportunity to get tracks from some of the lesser-known Death Row artists that way too.

Yeah.  It's a little thing, but it beats waiting a whole year for them to put out those first four projects they were talking about.  At least it's something.  I still hope they get moving on the website.  Besides having the download part, even just having a deathrow forum again would be cool.

Yeah, I remember he used to run the old forum under the name Am7 if I'm not mistaken.  Then I remember him using the oneoone name when he posted on the Mr. Makaveli forum and when he sold that first OFTB album.  That was before he came up with the For The People name....yeah, I don't think I'll waste my time posting there.

Interesting.  I've noticed a lot of these net-fame types that horde the Death Row material or bootleg it at outrageous prices, seem to have at least several e-aliases.

Around 400 tracks.. I know that for a fact cause I remember the info from his admin that was posted on his old WCRydaz forum. He said that only 1/5 of his DR material was released/leaked and he recorded around 400 songs from late 96 til early 01

Dubcnn should really do an interview with the new owners. Everyone probably has questions about the releases, what they actually have, time frame for releasing stuff, artists that have either reached out to them or vice versa, etc.

Tha Realest is coo.. But I don't think or expect his DR material to ever hit any store shelves (Legally). His similarity & 2pac style would defo throw alot of newbies & re-piss off the people who had forgotten about it back when Chronic 2000 dropped.

Like I said, I welcome more Realest stuff behind all the Pac jackin', dude can spit.
Anyone else think The Realest's DR material put out by WIDEAwake might be a stretch?

some of you Tenk fan's should ask them' bout it.

Maybe, maybe not... He is supposed to have an album dropping April 7th... Maybe if it comes out and people show interest they will consider putting his material out.
