"Parker got into the teeth of our defense and caused problems. Every time he drives the lane, we have to put him on his back. The first foul has to tell him he's in for a long night. My first foul Thursday night is going to put him on his back. I guarantee it."
-- Erick Dampier
My initial reaction after reading Damp's quote was to wonder why it took Tony Parker blowing up for 38 points for the Mavs' big man to decide to get physical with the Frenchman. After all, Parker averaged 31.3 points per game against the Mavs during the regular season.
Then I questioned the wisdom of publicly declaring the intent to inflict pain when Parker gets in the paint. Doesn't that significantly increase the odds that the refs will call a flagrant foul? If Dampier gets tossed, good luck defending Tim Duncan.
You have to like the fact that Damp is perturbed and plans to do something about it, but the usually quiet big man didn't choose his words very wisely.

lol... now this should make the series a lot more interesting.
-
That's a good way to give the refs a heads-up on any of his fouls. Dampier is the poster boy for the problem with guaranteed contracts. He has a couple good games each season, maybe he will have one this series.
As for his quote, don't talk about it, be about it!!
-
Tim Legler made a good quote on that; "why doesnt Dampier just call Stern & ask how much money he is going to be fined?"
the refs are going to be all over his ass for anybody who drives down the lane on him; stupid comments by him. :loco:

forreal. it's not that his strategy is stupid, but telling it to the media certainly is lol.

exactly, he is a fucking moron lol.
i see the Spurs taking the series though, no matter what Dampier declares lol.

LMAO @ Dampier of all people saying this.
-
erick dampier.....lol the man who waxes.shaves his back and arms
-
LOL...i'd like to see that.
-
In Dampier's defense, knocking Tony Parker on his ass worked for the Lakers in 04. Dude was killin us in the first 2 games, then Shaq gave Parker a hard foul and Parker shot like 30% as we won the next 4 games straight.
-
Ha watch him get ejected from the game...
he should just give up
-
The Mavs...physical?? lol
Im willing to bet dumbass Dampier isnt planning on actually trying to get physical. This kinda shit is a sign of someones confidence, or lack of it. He is making a weak attempt at getting into Parkers head, hoping he'll hesitate on taking it to the hole now. lol Good luck. People have been trying this ever since Parker hit the league. It usually doesnt work, and Parker has a better outside game then any other time in his career. The Spurs have a championship mentality. If you beat them, it will be by outplaying them...not the bullshit mind games lol.
-
Parker is a hard motherfucker .. you can throw him hard to the ground , he will attack the basket the next possession ... he's becoming better and better ... I feel Pop system is kind of preventing him to explode even more ( though he still clearly had his better individual season) ...
-
just play the fuckin game. your eric fuckin dampier...just be happy that you got a fuckin job.

what a moron. The rest of the league is sooo lucky that Manu is out for year

Spurs would be lucky to make the WCF with Ginobli IMO, but there's no denying his importance to their system.

How is that? Ginobli is a huge part of their team. He's an all star and their spark off the bench. Gooden is just now starting to fit into their system, losing Ginobli was a big blow. The Spurs have been number 2 for most of the year in the West. Theyve been the only team all year that any expert has given a SHOT at beatin LA.

Yeah I think Spurs at full strength and Lakers at full strength would go 7 games with either team having a great chance to win.

that means shit. We've had years where we didnt win a championship...then follow that up with a year where we dominated the playoffs with the same core of players. Ive been honest about shit, the way we've played...especially down the stretch, I dont see us beating LA. But dont make yourself look even more retarded then you already do by pretending that experts havent been saying all year that the Spurs were the only team in the West with any shot at taking out the Lakers.
-
^^ i do agree but not this year
i see more Nuggets vs Lakers this year
the Spurs havent adjusted to the new team yet

yeah, I dunno what to think right now. Ive seen them have years like this where they just fly under the radar all year...never look very impressive, and just fuck around and win a title. But they just havent really seem to put a great string of games together. Their core 3 havent played a ton of games together all year long. We SHOULD get past Dallas....and Im almost more afraid of NO then Denver. NO plays us pretty tough.

nice knowin ya, san antonio...
anyone see dampier stuff the shit out of parker? LOL
-
I haven't been able to catch a single game from this entire series, has Dampier's strategy been working? Because like I said, it did work for Shaq in 04, I know Parker is a different player now, but still...

he had 12 points in the game following the comments, but made up for it with 43 points in the following game after. they lost both times though, so i'd say dampier has the edge.

maybe next year SA....
Dallas vs Houston?
hopefully houston can get out the first fuckin round

Houston would have 2 pass the Lakers first, which isn't gunna happen...Dallas vs. Denver will be a good match-up, though.

my bad i was trippin

Looks like the Mavs got this..as much as I hate Timmy I gotta give him his props, hard to believe this is the first time he's been eliminated in the 1st round.
