Title: What Improvements can be made to DUBCNN?
Post by: Slikk_J on June 18, 2009, 06:00:39 AM
I was wondering what people thought dubcnn could do to take the site to the next level!

I just read an article of people struggling to find the DJ Quik and Kurupt album.

2 things IMO.

First, a section with regular updated upcoming West Coast album releases (Like proper release dates, like within 2-3 months, not unrealistic dates. Also updates on album dates pushed back etc).

Secondly, Perhaps a section where all these West Coast albums (especially ones that are heavily advertised) dierct link purchases. Both bigger hyped albums such as Westurn Union, DJ Quik & Kurupt, Dogg Pound, etc, all the way to smaller albums such as Tash, Sly Boogy, underground artists etc.

By the way, I am willing to help out where I can too.

Just a suggestion.

How about something like "Unsigned hyped" that concentrates and helps get upcoming artist more mainstream exposure.A small section, full of their tracks submitted possibly through a separate dubcnn email like unsigned@dubcnn.com or something. So artist who are coming up can try and get more exposure, I mean sure some people will be crappy, but have a standards when it comes to submitting. Possibly have 3 like NO rapping over released albums/mixtapes, I mean you know how many people be rapping over Dr. Dre's shit at concerts....2.Has to have at least 12 tracks, this way people won't keep sending damn singles, and have to actually take time to make a album. 3. Not biting. lol idk they can come up with 3. but only select possibly 10 or 20 only.

Only other thing is possibly BTFL lol  :-*

I think the "Interview Request Thread" should be deleted, since none of the interviews we request never happens.

People actually though that Nima and Co read that thread? lol. It's just to keep all the begging and crying in one thread in order to keep the forum clean. I don't think they ever touched it since the creation.
The Search function would be nice to get working if you ever have interest/time/skill and so.

Artist ranking system based on user reviews and points given to artists. Good way to see who is hot on the west. It would weed out all this shit about whos hotter then who.

They were supposed to get RSS around new year's and what a surprise, we're here 6 months later with nothing. Come on guys, that is just pure laziness.

I think its extremely harsh to write it off as 'laziness' when you don't know whats going on behind the scenes. The guys works incredibly hard on the site, and there wouldn't have been mention of an RSS feed unless there were plans to introduce one. Of course nobody wants a half assed version with plenty of bugs so it can take time trying to bring you the best possible set up.

Well, it actually takes a whole lot of time to update the Dubcc & Dubcnn index, and the more often I do it, the more time it takes.
Each time takes several hours, too much for one guy with work & uni to attend.  :-\

That's a gay thing to say.  Dubcnn has put so many people on, its not even funny.

Dubcnn seems to have money issues, cause more then once I've seen that message that says "This user has used up their bandwidth".I mean I'm putting together a album, so money is going to that, if I have any extra I'd be willing to donate.  8) 8) 8)

Possibly have a section for Singles to be sold. Dubcnn can take a small percentage. though they would have to work out a agreement, and the Unsigned Hyped idea, could be good, have 3 singles for DL for free and the entire mixtape can be bought off the site. That way both the new comers and the site can generate income.

Well it's been 6 months since you guys said it was just around the corner and you haven't said shit since then. Every other site, including the shitty ones, have RSS so honestly don't give these bullshit excuses like there's too many bugs or whatever. We're not idiots.

i know itīs a site mostly dedicated to west coast music but iīd much rather read about a non WC rapper then about all of those wack ass rappers thatīs always on Dubcnn. and a better review section would be appreciated.

Anyone can set up an RSS feed with no content but when dubcnn started RSS didnt exist...we have 7 years worth of archives that have to be compataible with the RSS feed and due to character issues most of it isnt...i am working on a fix but it takes time.

We are taking on extra review staff and if you checked dubcnn regularly you'd see that we are far from a westcoast only artists site...
