Title: Rumored Chronic Re-Lit Bonus songs are FALSE!!!
Post by: MarshColin on August 02, 2009, 04:52:45 PM
Just saw this on death row's twitter:

"The rumored bonus songs for Re-Lit listed online are not accurate. Stay tuned for the REAL info. ITS ALL ABOUT THE O.G.!"

http://twitter.com/deathrowmusic

So I guess there's still hope for some Dre.

Ya. I guess I meant more like Dre productions. That whole "it's all about the OG" has got me wondering what OG songs from those artists may be included.

on that site right after the tracklisting it says that lavi has taken alot of interest in Lady of Rage and wants to promote her stuff. She wants some rare releases (maybe Rages album tracks?) on the Chronic Re-lit project. Hmm wonder if that Sho Shot track will eventually make it.

so, wideawake bought a bunch of tracks that it can't ever issue due to past legal issues?
from a financial standpoint,  why did wideawake buy into such material? ppl want to hear the OG dre! hell, they got on their website stating "OG" this and that, and if this chronic re-lit is a BIG letdown in the end, i'm gonna lose alot of faith. there's a difference between what's in the vaults, and what they will release.

there's a difference also between what they CAN release, and what they WILL release...

why buy a catalog of music when it won't ever get the proper release?

It probably only concerns the unreleased Dre material it has been this way ever since he left DR.

so we talkin a COUPLE tracks compared to a couple ALBUMS? that's good to hear, but when wideawake came into the picture, i was amp'd to hear that the vaults are open. but the red tape is gettin in the way with this chronic re-lit release, cause i was expecting "DR DRE OG TRACKS", which meant dr. dre as the primary artist in those bonus tracks, not the production credits, or feat. credits.. and after reading the blogs and the forums, there's a lot of disappointment out there after the tracklist got posted for the bonus tracks.

i guess i was just wanting those CDQ / High Quality tracks that have leaked over the years via mixtapes of 'the chronic' sessions... its a shame they might never get a proper release. if there was any time to get them out there, now is the time, and that just ain't happening.

Well with those Dre songs that was kind of to be expected. Dre has moved on a long time he has no need for this material to have an official release and why should he? Let the man concentrate on his next album. I'm happy with the fact that these Dre songs have even seen the light of day even though they are in bad quality, otherwise we would have never heard them.

Wideawake bought Death Row's catalog. I doubt that the unreleased Dr. Dre material was the biggest reason for doing so. I'm sure going in they realized that some of the unreleased music might not be able to be legally released. It happens. As it is, they only have limited access to a lot of Tupac's material. The same legal limitations are going to apply to Wideawake that did with Death Row. It just means they might be in a better bargaining position with some of the artists since they haven't burned as many bridges as Suge.

i'm glad whatever leaked, leaked.. and wideawake is AMAZING compared to suge.

but the chances of further legal injunctions via say...snoop? dpg? hell, even petey pablo? as an artist, after the leaks that FTP did, i'd be pissed as petey pablo. some of those tracks were pretty good, but sadly, they will prob never get the proper release that they should have.

and financially speaking, from what FTP and other bootleggers leaked, how bad does that impact the death row catalog? did they ruin it for the rest of us? or is there entire albums yet still to be released from some of these artists, and we hope someday, they get their proper release?

Are you sure about that? I'm not 100% on this, but I think I remember reading that DR could only release Dre-materiale untouched and in it's original form, and that's why DR removed the Dre remixes with the new artists from Chronic 2000/Inside Out (Wasn't Ho Hopper feat Top Dogg mentioned in a tracklist?).

That was the previous agreement between Death Row and Dr Dre---however, the very nature of filling for bankruptcy, or legal insolvency, means all previous agreements, performances and executory contracts become (generally) unenforceable once a bankruptcy case has been filed. The idea being bankruptcy seeks to relieve the debtors contractual obligations citing insolvency-based termination due to financial condition (of the debtor).

This is why Amaru freaked the fuck out when Death Row filed Bankruptcy and filed 150,000 motions staying their anniversary complaint that Death Row had no right to release, license, sell or distribute Tupac's unreleased music even though they have it in their possession.

So with respect to the unreleased Dre recordings, there is no current contractual agreement precluding their release like there was back in 2000 (with The Chronic 2000) but there are the legalities about releasing the music without agreement. I really don't know enough about entertainment law but I'm assuming compensation needs to be agreed upon and some form of Songwriter Agreement or Producer Agreement needs to be signed. All that is well within Dre's ability to do.

What's going on here is Dre either 1) doesn't want unreleased music that he didn't feel was up to his standards being released or 2) doesn't want new unreleased music stealing Detox's thunder. That is reasonable for Dre's own tracks pre-detox I'll give him that. But I swear to God if he pulls this shit after Detox is released on the unreleased Doggystyle songs I'll drive to LA and pull a Suge Knight on his ass myself. We're getting Next Episode come hell or high water.

Suge is gone and Dre stands to make good money off his unreleased stuff so give me one good reason that these shouldnt be released. They wont affect his work with Detox one bit and they require zero effort from Dre other than signing a few papers. How will this hurt Dre's career?

With the big rerelease of The Chronic, and if they are able to release a few unreleased Dre tracks, it might create some buzz for Detox.  It would most likely help Dre more than it would hurt him to have these unreleased songs come out.  It would probably be in Dre's best interest to let wideawake release them...but he won't.

This isn't about money or creating a buzz or whatever this is about principles, leaving the past behind and being consistent.

Dr. Dre is finished with DR he always has been ever since he left the label and the fact that new people "own" DR now won't change a damn thing about it. He is concentrating on the present and the future why would he be bothered to go back. He simply has no interest in his old DR unreleased material being released so no such thing will happen end of story.

I knew those tracks listed was false but, I reallly do believe that this maybe the right time 4 unreleased recordings 2 b released. I think if Dre does "green light" his unreleased recordings 2 be release, that it won't hurt him at all in the long run. I think it will re-lit The Chronic and creat a bigger buzz 4 Detox. I think it would be good 2 release this stuff now. I mean, Dr. Dre could start over like the rest of the former artist and rebuild a relationship with the label. Heck even Jimmy could work with them in some sort. I think it would be good. Dr. Dre participation in the re-release of The Chronic will be a great start 4 Death Row and a great way 2 get fans ready 4 Detox.

By default the bankruptcy would not render the legalities around the music useless but, as you say, may well mean they are less-stable as the writs would be against DR and its parent label...having said that Dre has worked hard to ensure this material does NOT leak so im sure if there were any loopholes he has seeked to close them and ensure the material remains unreleased

why not just re release dogg food and add these songs to that where they would actually fit...

The other interesting thing here is that "Poor Young Dave" song, a track we all know is "Nigga Named Dave," a Snoop solo track, but entirely produced by Dre.

That being the case, it's possible Dre is cool with WIDEawake releasing his unreleased production and/or vocals, he's just not cool with them releasing anything unreleased from The Chronic....

Or perhaps this is just a legal classification issue i.e. WIDEawake needs permission from Dr. Dre to release a "Dr. Dre" track, ex - "Hoe Hopper" or "Rat Tat Tat OG" etc. But maybe if the track is classified as a Snoop Doggy Dogg track (see - "Poor Young Dave"), and they have the clearance from Snoop to release it, than it doesn't matter if Dr. Dre produced it or even featured on it.

I could care less about "hoe hopper" and "rat tat tat" og to be honest, it's the Snoop Doggystyle era stuff that MUST be released.

+1 that's exactly how I feel. Dre's got way too much on his mind with Detox.

What I think happened was that WideAwake originally was going to include unreleased Dre tracks on Re-Lit, then they ran into some legal issues. They said fuck it we'll put other songs on there that we don't need clearance for instead because they need to get a product out there to start generating revenue for the company and the Chronic was a good place to start, with or without unreleased Dre material.
