Already 5 Years since Game's Debut album dropped.
Still a dope ass album
-
Yessir. Game always drops dope albums.
-
I'm not a fan of Game at all. But this album did have some classic production.
-
What's really sad to think about is that since then Game has been the only major west coast commercial artist aside from snoop dogg.
-
Classic
The last classic from the West. Bout time we get a new classic from the WestCoast

Classic

We had atleast one: Guilty By Affiliation.
-
Damn that was 5 years ago?! Fuckin hell time goes quick
-
8). Definitely an album that solidified my love for Westcoast hip hop, followed by the Doctor's advocate and Guilty by affiliation.
Man, 5 years, the memory of hearing How we do for the first time is still fresh in my memory. That beat was STUPID. 8)
-
its a really solid album but for me to give something classic status it would have to have no bad tracks. the documentary is not a classic album.
-
im goin to say "Yes", it is a classic - but i really dont think u can give an album the "classic-title" after just 5 years
a future-classic
-
Easily games best album.Doctors advocate was good and lax was an abortion. He seems to get worse every album, lets see how red is.I still have high hopes for it.
If Game hadnt been a disloyal fuck, the shady, aftermath,g unit empire would still be number one today.
-
hmm its pretty close....its DA that has the terrible swizz beatz joint on it. weakest song is probably 'we aint' with the terrible eminem production. the rest is really solid.
game really isn't the kind of rapper to make a classic album though. outside of west coast music, it's not such a big deal and outside of rap music altogether, it doesn't really hold much value at all.
no hate though, i appreciate game a lot 8)
-
I can still bump every track from this album without skipping one. It's a classic IMO 8)
-
Its a great album yea, Dre, 50 and Eminem decided to put the West back on the map with that one. Classic...compared to shit that gets released today in hip hop world, yea.
-
Wouldn't quite give it "5 mics" if I was gonna use Source ratings, but I would gladly give it a 4.5. Album still sounds crazy as fuck, some of the beats are insane and I still love to bump this shit.
-
damn, I can't believe it's been 5 years... where the fuck has all the time gone
I still remember the first times hearing "Westside Story" and "How We Do", and going to FYE (back when it was still Strawberry's over here lol) to cop the album the day it dropped... I just recall bumping the album everyday to and from school for weeks after buying it... memories 8)
album is a personal classic for me
-
Time flies. Great album, the whole album was banging. I remember the first time I saw This is how we do vid, perfect match with the song
-
I'm not a fan of Game at all. But this album did have some classic good production.
-
I'm all for diverse opinions but I don't see how you can down the production even if you are a Game hater. The album definately did have some classic production, IMO the best album of the decade sonically. If Game can even get close to this album with RED it will be a major hit.
-

True.
The album had some weak aspects (the hook of "Westside Story", "How We Do", Yayo's verse on "Runnin", the mastering on "Higher", etc.), but overall it's a great album and Game even managed to top this with DA.
-

LOL at the votes
-
The Documentary is not west coast
-
wery dioe album, but not a classic
-

-
i say it's a classic! i'm sure even in 10 years ppl are gonna speak about it
-
Classic album.
It was the only West Coast album that gets mentioned in the "Top Albums of the Last Decade" lists that I've read from other forums and magazine lists.
-
wery dioe album
yes. wait. WHAT ? ;D
It's Bosnia Boi man, he was saying some shit in Bosnian.
-
lmao this aint no classic
Its a good album, still listen to it from time to time, but it isnt classic, producers outweigh the rapper

Bosnia Boi's english is very good. He's one of the best posters here.
-
Yeah it's a good album but not an classic, there's a couple of weak tracks that you have to skip when you bumpin' it.
-
Yea that album was bangin back then and stayed in the cd changer for months but I won't bump that shit now so nope it's not a classic to me.
-
I'm going to say the same thing I've always said -- if you have to ask if an album is a classic, it isn't. "Classic" albums are no-brainers, no questions asked. The mere fact that this thread is asking if The Documentary is a classic is proof that it isn't.
Do you see anybody making threads, "Is The Chronic a classic?" "Is Illmatic a classic?" "Is "Paid in Full a classic?" Of course not, because those actually are classic albums.
As for The Documentary, the album has no gravity whatsoever. It's filled with the standard cliches, Game doesn't have a good voice, and his technique really isn't that great (he got better over the next couple of albums). The gimmick of being "the game" that is, being all other major rappers rolled into one (thereby explaining why Game name-drops so much, because he has all of those rappers in him)...it's just a goofy gimmick, and I never thought it was solid. It's just proof that Game is studio-manufactured. He's entirely fueled and supported and market-tested by an image, namely a stereotypical "gangsta" rapper.
Put You on the Game is a great beat, but so what...it's not supposed to be an album of house/techno music, it's a rap album, and I judge it as an entire package -- song concepts, the overall album concept, insights, emotional resonance, good production is just a part of it.
So, all in all, it's an ok album -- nothing more, nothing less...and really has no weight whatsoever. Does anybody listen to any of the songs on the album, let alone the album in total, and get the feeling that you've never heard that before, or it sheds insight into anything you can relate to, or whether it sounds artistically inspired? I strongly argue no -- it's just studio-crafted music, not true art. And therefore it isn't anywhere near classic.
-
this is Game's best album.
i still bump this from time to time.
near-classic that could go classic later in life. 8)
-
lol @ abortion
but he still released it....haha
Easily games best album.Doctors advocate was good and lax was an abortion. He seems to get worse every album, lets see how red is.I still have high hopes for it.

Personal classic for me, this album takes me back to my freshman year in high school. Had a few fillers but still a near classic with great production.
-
Love this album but i don't think it's a classic, the only reason this could maybe be a classic in the future is because everything else which has dropped in the last 5 years has been average as fuck
-
but the album itself isnt that good? lol

lol what i mean is it's a great album but it's not amazing, and if it wasn't for the fact that so much trash has dropped in the last 5 years this album probably wouldn't even be thought of as a possible classic
-
haha nah im jus playin cuz of the way you worded it...makin it sound like the album itself is wack but compared to beyond wackness its listenable..lol

Put You On the Game is fucking fire!!! 8) 8) but i respect your opinion ;)

To tell the truth, when Game first came out I was getting tired of the Unit at that time and wasn't looking forward to hearing another one of them. I liked his singles but I briefly listened to the album cuz the homie next door had it. I wasn't feeling it when i heard it. I eventually became a Game fan after hearing him on mixtapes by DJ Strong and Warrior. But to this day I have not gone and given The Documentary a second listen.

lol, his voice is actually one of his strengths.
if you're referring to How We Do, then ok.
an old friend of mine recommended this song when it came out, but i wasn't feeling it.
now i think it's decent at best.
