Simple Question.
-
There's no one answer or person to such question.
Hates will deny Dre, but he forever still the most relevant, most longevity the west ever had. Haters will hate but Dre is bigger than the west. No artist, from the east, west, or south has accomplished more than Dr. Dre. You deny that you're a hater. Period!
So common sense will make Biggest Icon of all time. Of course stupid sense will prevail all throughout this thread.

DJ Quick? LOL please, As much as quick is dope, the main ones is usually a N.W.A Member, or Snoop (Death Row especially) or 2pac. Honestly don't be amazed if 2pac gets put on there a ton. Ice T also has some standing, but his Iconic stature is normally limited to early Hiphop, and he wasn't really a force during west reign (with him going 2 body count).
-
simple answer: 2pac
-
Tupac.
-
Ice-T because he was the first to do the gangster rap! Secondly Eazy-E for bringing us N.W.A. Ice Cube used to rap like the beastie boys when he first started.
-
Looks like da homie lesane parish crooks gotta strangle hold on da lead ya dig? 8)
-
Biggest music icon? Dr Dre. He set musical trends
Biggest Icon? Tupac. People still talk about how he may be alive years and years after his death.
-
i'm going with Snoop Dogg.
Dre & Tupac are rap icons; meaning, most people (average hip hop/mainstream fan) associate these two with rap purely; like the first thing to come to mind when thinking about them is "both made HUGE IMPACTS in the rap game".
Snoop is still dropping albums, still throwing up the West & that's how he will be remembered; WESTCOAST BABY.
Pac will be remembered as the greatest ever & Dre will (sadly) be remembered as Eminem's producer; but no coast connected to them.
so the answer is Snoop if you're looking for poster boy of the West Coast.
if you just mean the biggiest icon that happens to be from the West, it's Pac, no question.
-
Ice Cube for me. Only Dre and 2Pac has had as much commercial AND critical influence on hip-hop as music and culture. Ice Cube has the controversy to rival 2pac aswell. The difference is...back in the day Ice Cube's lyrics held so much more weight, importance and influence on me as a kid growing up than 2Pac.
At his peak Ice Cube was the most important artist in hip-hop for a few years. His political lean also obviously sets him apart from Dre and Pac. Cube was deep on that, sometimes too deep!
-
there will never be another icon like 2Pac

Nima
lol.
speakin of Nima I aint heard from him in a while. He's still workin for the dub?
-
simple answer: 2pac
-
dat would have to be either pac or snoop - but ima have to go wit snoop, since pac is dead and he will also always be tied to New York in a way
-
Ice-T because he was the first to do the gangster rap! Secondly Eazy-E for bringing us N.W.A. Ice Cube used to rap like the beastie boys when he first started.
ice-t recognizes SCHOOLY D was the first gangsta rapper
-
Snoop, no doubt.
-
Keep em comin..............I need every mafaka up in here to vote ya dig g? 8)
-
Nima
lol
If you didnt vote for pac you didnt understand the question
-
Voted Snoop. Dude is still in the game.
-
and ice t wasnt and isnt a big enough icon...he hasnt or didnt do enough
hes in csi right now clockin in a 9-5....thats not what any icon should be doin...haha

All of the artists mentioned have all added there own legacy to the west.
Cube, Ice-T, Eazy, Schooly D laid the groundwork
Pac and Snoop along with the others mentioned helped push it to even greater heights, but those 2 really took it to the next level.
-
you guys understand the term "icon", right?
MJ, Kobe = icons
Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter = icons
Eminem, Biggie Smalls = icons
how can you guys say Ice-T like he is some mega-popular celebrity? i'm willing to bet 90% of the entire world doesn't know who he is or couldn't tell you much about him; didn't he have a MTV or VH1 show? that probably gained him more popularity than he had when he was rapping lol.
if i was walking down the streets & asked people; are you a fan of Ice-T?
the thought processing in their head would be;

id say as far as "icon" probably snoop
-
Proably Snoop for his longevity, 2Pac is kinda bigger than the West plus he's been for half of his life on the East, I would go with Eazy-E.
-
i'm going with Snoop Dogg.

Agreed. NWA did bring west coast rap & gangsta rap to the rap scene. Hardly got any radio or video play & still got over. Snoop Dogg, he's known worldwide. As he said in a song, he's the only rapper ever known by your grandmother. And your preacher & your teacher. What other rapper is that well known?
-
What other rapper is that well known?
Tupac? 50 Cent? Eminem? Biggie? Puff Daddy? Will Smith? Jay-Z? Kanye West? LL Cool J?
-
Haha, The D.O.C.? Give me a break
-
yeah
1.still not everyone knows who snoop is....especially the older people
2.should he be considered a icon even tho he sold out and made muzik for the white people only?
then some would say pac made muzik from the heart and never sold out
so pac might take it cuz pac bein from the eastcoast is better than snoop sellin out

of course everybodys gonna say 2 Pac , but i say Ice Cube is the biggest Icon dude hands down , Movies and music and directing nwa , boyz n the hood , amerikka most , death certificate , baber shop fliccs , Friday movie Franchise etc etc
-
CUBE no doubt
-
2Pac is one of if not the biggest icon in hip hop history, overall.
But if we're talking about west coast icons, then I'ma say Eazy. Any poster on the board who was alive on the west at the time when Eazy was alive will be able to tell you about the respect he had on the coast, in Compton in paricular obviously. Without Eazy, who knows if west coast rap would ever have gotten on the map.
-
so whether
he was a dope rapper
sold any units?
recieved the same reaction vs other rappers?
does that matter?
-
Haha, The D.O.C.? Give me a break
quik too, in 2010 noone who isnt into old westcoast rap even knows who he is
-

even though that sounds ignorant; it's true, that's what it comes down to.
who is still talked about to this day?
i know Michael Jordan is in Basketball & Babe Ruth is in Baseball & Snoop Dogg is in Hip Hop.
-
but look at how they kept themselves so that you can talk and remember them?
is that iconic?
its jus like is eazy really the godfather of gangsta rap?
-

ice-t recognizes SCHOOLY D was the first gangsta rapper
Let me re-phase first WEST-COAST gangsta rapper. Another thing Ice-T brought to the West Coast was the gangsta Image. Alot of you guys on this site are youngsters that started to listen to rap when the chronic 2001 came out. Ask anyone that has been listening to hip hop for over 20 years and they will let you know how influential ICE-T has been on the WEST, EAST COAST and all over the world. Ice Cube used to rap like the beastie boys. Dr.Dre was doing dance music while Ice-T was dropping that gangsta shit. Yeah everyone saying Pac here because they picking there favorite artist. But all and all he wasn't considered an Icon untill he died and to even consider him West-Coast isn't even right because he half of his albums are EAST COAST. I still have 2 Schooly D cassettes he was alright but it was't nothing like Ice-T busting GANGSTA rap over west coast beats....
-

Voted Snoop, but Cube is def one of the biggest WC icons. 2Pac's reign was too short to even be considered imo. Had a huge impact on rap, but career was cut short.
-
2pac or Eazy
had to go wit Eazy cuz he the 1 who started this shit
-
snoop says one thing then when his album sales dont do well he goes against what he made
i mean fuck tha grammys?
come on g
yeah

Ice Cube hands down Cube has got better with age to me he's responsible for two of the biggest rap groups and he's a pretty good actor and he's always been hardcore he don't give a fuck.

i would love to hear your guys definition of "icon".
is the guy who invented Baseball an icon or is Babe Ruth?
is the guy who invented Basketball an icon or is Michael Jordan?
point is, just because you came first & set a trend doesn't make you an icon; he's a legend, no doubt.
but icon? people need to think of your name; if i asked the average homeboy name me 25 rappers, Ice-T might come up once, maybe.
but i guarentee you Tupac & Snoop Dogg would be on EVERY single list.
