Title: great story by a guy who helped Eminem get his record deal - very in depth
Post by: OG Hack Wilson on November 29, 2010, 10:18:26 PM

wonder how come I never came across this....guy gives out many tidbits such as when eminem first worked with dre em used a completely different 3 verses of "my name is"   and that Eminem and guru rapped together on the wake up show (i've never heard of that before)

also sway and tech let eminem on the show without hearing him before so they were blew away when they first heard him (he used the "retarded kid named greg" verse)

LMAO.....

Quote
When I was working as a waiter in a restaurant this kid named Marc Kempf came up to me one day and asked me if I liked hip hop. I said yeah and he said that he had started a hip hop magazine and that he would bring in a copy for me to check out.
Quote
The next time I saw Marc he had his "hip hop magazine" which was nothing more than a large piece of paper folded in half with the logo of the magazines name on the cover......I have to say that when Marc said he started a hip hop magazine I was thinking it was going to be like the Source so I wasn't very impressed

who the fuck does this guy think he is, LMAO your a waiter, at least this guy is doing something with his life instead of bitching

NEEDLESS TO SAY I DIDNT READ ANYMORE. 8)

first off fuck eminem's "discovery" or whatever people call it. Its a joke is what it is. He was spoon fed his career pretty much while others say nipsey hussle or I can go on have put in work for years and just now gettin attention. WITH that bein said, this is the truth out of this same era where he hadnt been signed.

ICP has this concert at st. andrews hall. If ur anybody in hip hop in detroit, or pretty much michigan, you have done a show at st. andrews hall. Anyways, after the show, this kid runs up to ICP and is all handin out flyers. Okay I pulled out my ICP official book wrote by ICP so lemme preach. It reads: One kid in particular came up to me and gave me a flyer. It read, EP Release Party, blah blah blah. Featuring appearances by Esham, Kid Rock, and ICP (maybe). That pissed me off. Why was this kid givin me a flyer that advertised our name with a maybe after it? What kind of bullshit was that? he might as well put featuring fuckin madonna. Who knows, Right? So I asked the kid, why do you have our name on this flyer? The kid said, It says maybe. Maybe you will be there, I dont know. Thats why im asking you right now. You guys comin to my ep release party or what? Fuck no, I aint comin to your party. We might have, if you wouldve asked us first, before puttin us on the fuckin flyer like this. We dont even know who the fuck you are, so dont be tryin to trick juggalos into thinking weel be there.

That was that and we parted ways. Who was that kid? yup, you guessed it. Who would have ever known what would all become of that one ninety second encounter? That was the first and last time I have ever met the future superstar Eminem face to face. He wasnt even famous yet, not even signed, just promoting his songs, and he was allready pullin bitch tactics.

at the endo f the day Eminem met Dr. Dre and ICP got their money via touring and sales without radio play so both parties won.

not really, it took some years before he got signed to aftermath.
no other label wanted to sign him, due to his skin colour.

cuz he's white? thats why they wouldnt sign him? What about all the successful white rappers in say, 1998. Necro been around since 89, has his own label. R.A. the rugged man. B Real from cypress. 3rd Bass, bloodhound gang, house of pain. Kid Rock before he became a rocker style. The mothafuckin beastie boys on def jam. ICP started in 90, have their own label, sub label, movies ect. Half Breed. Kottonmouth Kings. Twiztid. Yes there might not have been a superstar, but white rappers was gettin over before his ass came along. As far as his discovery, dude it was very short the work he put in compared to others. Also, who has their shit played for dr. dre then he gets at you when they first mixtape/ep or whatever hits the street? Thats like winning the lottery. Snoop and Em, thats about it that just from the jump had that spotlight set on them by dre and it blew up. Others didnt work out so great, like knoccturnal and such. I dont think it has much to do with color.

for havin their book I fail? You just dont get the wicked shit. They have 2 platinum albums and 4 gold. They hold the record "or did last I checked" with a hip hop album being listed in the billboard 200 the longest in consecutive weeks with 1997's the great milenko. If u hate them fine. They have 2 movies, which they wrote and did most of the acting. ICP just signed the dayton family to their 2nd label which has Axe murder boyz, dj clay, and others already successful. They have the 3rd biggest pro wrestling fcompany in the usa. Their label psychopathic is very successful and has Blaze, Twiztid, among others. ONly 2 groups I know that had no video/radio play and got so big is 1. N.w.a. and 2. ICP. They are underground legends, self made. Plus not many are in the game period as long as they are, and they cornered the market of band merchandise before others even had a skully hat for sale. They own their own studio. What more needs to be said? They are very successful, and have been so for a long long time. You dont have to be a fan of theirs to read the book by the way, its good on its own. Thru grit and determination they made it despite all the haters. Thats to be respected. Bone thugs, Ice T, three six mafia, lots of people you wouldnt think are down with them ARE. Check the sippin on some sizzurp video, they wearin ICP's gear in that shit.

yeah, listen to 'White america'.

anyway, sure there are others that don't get the platform that Eminem got, but to state that Eminem didn't work hard to get signed is just false.

I respect ICP from a financial point of view for successfully exploiting the most pathetic demographic in America and maybe even the world.
But I give them too much credit, that miracles song proved they are complete idiots just like their fans.

Even though one of my favourite rappers is 'down with ICP' I still agree with chino Xl "The Insane clown posse out of rap they are making a mockery."

hey hate on it all you want bro, thats not my point. I dont care if people hate them. Exploiting? I think they invented the horrorcore sound, or at the very minimum help mold and shape it, in the beginning. Say esham made it a year before, so what? They from same area, and in fact esham is on icp's first album. MY main point here is they are the blueprint to makin it without a label deal, or bein discovered. They sat in kinko's for hours and hours and hours and did flyers for years on their own. They WAS on def jam, hated it, and got off so they could maximize their money off they own shit.

making rap a mockery? Bag grammer unless your yoda. Anyway They arent rappers. They say so themself. You dont put this cd under just rap. Its a specific demographic of rap, a sub genre. Some call it death rap, horror rap, horrorcore, whatever. Chino XL is just mad cuz he cant and hasnt and will not ever sell as much as ICP or ever have the following they do. I like chino, but if he puts out an album in 3 months it wont sell as much as ICP thats just how it is.

that song miracles you speak of, I dont hate the song but its not one I really like either. Thats not the point, hate it all you want. Howard stern got famous for pissin people off. More listened to him cuz they hated him than loved him jus to see what he would do next. Look at that shit on youtube, has millions upon millions of viewers. THEY MADE an entire Saturday Night Live skit WITH 2 guys face painted like ICP and spittin rhymes and all. That album, with miracles, was number 4 on billboard 200 its first week out. Alot of rappers never get that high, has chino xl? Especially today, where everybody downloads the shit.

They made that sound, its all theirs, its unique. Tech N9ne used to be a regular hip hop artist and then blam he's doin wicked shit. Brotha Lynch Hung always been doin wicked shit but just not to the degree he's doin it now. King Gordy, Bizarre, Proof, Swifty, lots of others started doin wicked shit exclusively cuz it has a big following. ITS like ECW in the 90's. Yeah its not as big as WWF/WWE was or WCW, but it had a big following too on its own merit.

and guy that said they got books? they got BOOKS? They got action figures, thongs, vinyl, shoes, jackets, their own energy drink, I can go on and on. They market themself very well. They have a huge 10,000 or person 4 day long version of woodstock called gathering of the juggalos every year. Ive been twice, saw bone thugs and mack 10 and abunch of people that have made songs with ICP there. Met king gordy there before he got big. At that event, they is everything from carnival rides, to midgit porn bitches rideing a mechanical bull, to pro wrestling.

Like I said, hate them all you want, but they put in the work and they got big. 2 highschool drop outs and they are more successful than most rappers will ever be. Thats 2 be respected. they got 18 years in the game.

its not like I dont like hip hop cats like wu or crook or jay or nas or pac or ross or whoever. I liked that shit first, will always like that shit too, but I like the wicked shit also, and it IS rap, but not just rap it has its own following and its not for everybody thats fine. Its a different kind of hip hop. Tell chino that ICP signed dayton family, maybe if he wants to get his swole on he can holla at them for a jobby job.

people that have made songs with ICP you'd be surprised to hear: 2 songs with ODB, Snoop, 4 or 5 songs with Three Six Mafia "used to be known as triple six mafia btw", Ice-T, Bone Thugs, Tech N9ne, Mack 10, Kid rock, Above the Law.

on a side note you tube the interview bill oreily gave violent J, its fucking hillarious.

we're talkin about MAJOR labels not indie.. Name me a white rapper that was a HUGE success in a MAJOR label other than vanilla ice? and not even.. house of pain?.. Jump around was ONE hit and there other singles never did as big as jump around. B-real is half MEXICAN and CUBAN he isnt caucasion. Necro and all them other dudes real talk 80% of the USA never heard of them till 1999 and napster was out real talk. white rappers got there shine after the internet became a priority in everyones home. Eminem been around since 96 grinding so dont tell me he had it handed to him.. and ICP is wack as hell there beats and lyrics suck they sound like a damn parody from SNL
