Downloading now. I guess I'll leave a comment or two once I've read the book :)
-
Downloading right away. I'm not much of a reader, but I think this book is worth reading
-
Usually I'd Say I'm Not Much Of A Reader But I Spend Enough Time On Here Reading Everyone Else's Post's That I May As Well Give This A Look/See!!
-
Just had a skim through.
Lots of background/behind the scenes info on hip-hop post 2000 including: Dre, Aftermath artists, Quik, Jay-Z, Timbaland, Shade Shiest etc..well worth a read.
Props for it being free, a nice lil xmas present for this board.
-
i dont have facebook, any way to download it otherwise?

Don't have fb too, I had to read it directly on the site. I've killed my eyes during 3 hours reading on that mf computer. Anyway good read! Haven't finished it but damn that sucka Jay Z passed on a Nate Dogg track, wanted the beat and wanted to take off Nate Dogg!! Man Jay Z you're a fool!
Damizza I hope you let us hear this track someday! "Wet your lips"
-
@ Dre shaking his head when asked about if he knew what Myspace and Youtube is, in the last years of the last decade.
He probably still never even heard of us on this site, if he was too read our shit he would have a heart-attack.
-
someone up the shit on a file-host thanks, fuck this facebook-connect shit
i like the fact that Damizza gave away the book for free,
writing a book is not an easy task, n it takes alot to just give away the shit like this
suport the charity fund or whatever that he linked and throw away a few dollars, its nothin.
compensate wit a lil sumthin sumthin, n dont b greedy now
-
Up to the dre chapter, good read so far, didn't know duke was so influential. What's he doing now?

wow.
but hey, artists get taken off a lot of times, we just rarely hear about it.

haha well he has a huge staff so that explains all. or do you really think hes posting on twitter by himself?
well im sure he knows dubcnn, not sure about the forum. but like damizza said in the dubcnn interview, there's people from dre's camp lurking. they could have shown him some things.

i guess that's because he's not really a spotlights type of person.
well it seems like he's busy reading this forum haha

I don't get why this is free.....Everything is a money grab perse, why be ashamed? Peope won't buy it if they don't want it and everyone's entitled to a buck. I appreciate it's free though don't get me wrong, I just don't see how anyone would have any thing valid to say about selling it....That's how the world is.

reading it and loving it so far. great insights and a perspective that a lot of us folk can relate to 8)

This book is awesome. Haven't been able to stop reading it. The guy's crushed about Mariah fo sho'.

i read the majority of it just now, a great read for most here i'd imagine. thanks to damizza for putting it out, free or not. maybe coulda been a pay what you like type thing like they do on bandcamp or steam with independent game bundles. i woulda put down some dollars based on the value of what i got out of it.
without going into crazy detail, couple of thoughts
dre - comes across as a very cool dude. current artistic situation seems to be all about the yes men/suits. not having enough poeple in touch with music from a fans perspective (like mizza) around him anymore. also the business as a whole as out of touch. a lot could be said about this topic, relating it to other parts of the entertainment industry and broader economic issues.
unreleased records - quik produced a track for mariah carey? also quik's work on b-real solo album. one track is mentioned as being amazing.
-
I'm gonna start with the Dre chapter today at work. So far it's been a great read. Very insightful :)
-
The entire book was a phenominal read. It nails a lot of what is wrong with the industry at this moment. And to nail home the point, if this had been released in physical form at a bookstore and I paid $16 for it, I would feel more fulfilled from that purchase then just about any CD I've bought since as long as I can remember. As a music fan that bothers me.
All in all, lots of great stories in there. I'd kill to get a physical copy of it. I can imagine a lot of these wannabe A&Rs that frequent this forum learning quite a bit from reading this. He breaks down a lot of the goings-on in radio.

Well said. I agree. This was a solid book, couldn't stop reading it until it was done.

Yeah it's interesting at the end of the Chapter on Snoop (Half of which is about Bishop?) where he has the conversation with Dre about Bishop and Jimmy about the industry, everyone seems way out of touch. Same goes with Power 105 trying to be a top 40 station and losing it's appeal. A lot of great insight, half way through the producer chapter now. Listening to Shades album as we speak 8)

well i was reading it for 3 hours plus. lots of things to talk about from here, we get the full story about bishop's grow up, dre's mentality about it. and a clear picture of why detox didn't come out/still hasn't come out from all that stuff.

Quik, B-Real & Nate Dogg were close to form a super group. It didn't happen because of B-Real.
Jaz Z had a beat by Damizza with Nate on the hook. Jay Z was only feeling the beat not Nate vocals so he didn't finish the tracks. It remains in Mizza's vault.

Props for getting it and feeding back i know Mizz will be reading these and appreciates it!

i want to put in my bookshelf

I'm the same way. I don't fuck with Kindle either. I'm a little John McLane in my ways but that's just how I get down.
-
Can anybody post the chapters about dre, bishop and snoop ? I'm curious about the grow up situation
-
This is a fuckin dope ass book. I wish I could get it in a hard copy and put it with the rest of my book collection
-
I read the whole book by now. It's got very interesting stories and reads like a breeze. Stil, sometimes I felt Damizza held back when things could get really interesting. For instance, when Tommy Mottola tried to pay Damion to keep him informed of Mariah's moves. I would have liked to go a bit deeper into the rabbit hole, instead of just reading that Damizza would not sell his soul and that was that.
Besides that, no disrespect, but while reading the book I kept thinking that Damizza came off as a bit naive! I mean, Puffy is almost described as a saint, Oprah is the nicest person in the world, etc. I think these descriptions are very one-dimensional and it seems unlkely that such heavyweights in this shady entertainment business are the friendliest people you could meet.
Don't get me wrong though, I really enjoyed the book and perhaps Damion will put another one together someday!

Thanks damizza for sharing this wit us, I very much appreciate u sharing such awesome stories, especially for me, I was always interested in wat happen in the 90's with hip hop. Some great stories frm some of the greatest from the westcoast. But theirs always two sides to the story... I'm not saying that its not true just take that into account ppl....
