And Im meaning from an overall perspective not just a West Coast fans view
Go back to the very early 90s. Year after year these guys were dropping classic ish, Spice in particular was a very innovative with his delivery and lyricism and Eihts flow of course was unique and hard hitting.
Now over time and especially on the production side of things they kinda fell off, you could argue Eiht has kinda got back on point. But this shouldnt detract from the legacy they have left the game with.
Where should these guys sit in terms of hall of fame emcees? in terms of their back catologue and what theyve acheived?

seems like Spice 1 has been forgot by most

seems like Spice 1 has been forgot by most
and that is a damn shame
everybody Ive exposed to his early work is just blown away by how fucking dope it is.
-
Probably not but who give a shit. Anyone that knows Hip Hop knows they are legends in the rap game.

The Two are legends! The thing about the two is they don't change and follow the trends.. That's what I like about them.. But that's why some people kinda forgot about them... You can always count on spice and eiht for some hard gangster ish.. Still waiting on MC eihts new album.. 8)

big fan of both (specially Spice),
but nah,
they havent really contributed alot to hiphop overall. tehy were justa part of teh gangsta-rap trend in the 90's. and none of their album sticks out as bonafied 5-mic hiphop-"classics".
Spice 1 and MC Eiht were on the map and had hits, when the buzz wit the "Menace II Society" movie came along,, but thats it
definitely West Coast-legends tho, but they will never be up there wit the Pac's, Big's, Rakim's, ATCQ's, De La's, EPMD's, Nas' and Jigga's
-
yes i agree with mike on that one, and i love spice's music to death. they were dope rappers who were influential in gangsta rap at one point, and that's a good contribution but that's pretty much it. they get their props for that. mc eiht is a household name and spice is still doing his thing and gets love from the og's & younger cats from time to time (rakim, twista, the game, oj da juiceman)
-
Mike how can you be a big fan and basically say they didnt contribute anything to the game
Spice especially was quite diverse with his lyricism and flow. Peep him on the track Hard to kill where he murders Meth and Jealous got me trapped where he runs rings around Pac.
The Guy was a rappers rapper and thats why you will find a bunch of rappers giving him his due
Spice between 92-96 was one of the top emcees in the game and he should be mentioned as a hall of famer

Shit spice can still flow
-
Hell no and it's a damn shame because they came out with some one-off shit.
I fucks with Spice more though.

spice 1 - debut album , amerikkas nightmare , 187 he wrote was ok . he always had a nice flow , but his weakness is subject matter
he goes to overkill on the guns and bitches and weed subject matter . Welcome to the ghetto , Playa man , trigger gots no heart , my favs
MC Eiht - i think all three CMW albums were dope , its a compton thang , straight checken em , music to driveby . he was always different from
the average westcoast rappers as far his beats and sound , it had a more eastcoast vibe to me . his solo albums either you loved them or hated them , we come strapped , death threatz , section 8 , n my neighborhood , were the best to me . again you can say his weakness is subject matter just like spice 1 , he tends to stay stuck on the gangsta , struggle , hood vibe .

na man, i disagree
they are veterans tho.
and yes, i can be a bonafide fan without suckin up to an artist.
Eiht and Spice are not in the hiphop- hall of fame, as game-changers/legends.
i dont see em on the same level as the Bigs, Rakims, Cool Js, EPMDs, ATCQs, Native Tounges etc etc. and i don't think they will ever be hailed as such historicaly.
they were just gangsta-rappers of the day, who made some temporarily mainstream-noise roughly 20 years ago, back in the day when the "menace ii society"-hype was crackin.
and they didnt bring gangsta-rap to the mainstream-forefront, the NWA-family tree came before em and paved teh way.
and eastcoast-rappers like Das EFX rocked the rapping-style that Spice 1 had down to a T, before him, so he didnt invent shit
"legend" gets thrown around way too much these days. im all for solidarity and stanism, but pretty please ,ease up a bit

spice-1 and eiht were to gangsta rap what rakim, cool j, etc. were to east coast rap.... they are legends in their own respect.

Lol really? Cool J and Rakim?? Two of the true pioneers of this thing we love called hip hop. You'd do better comparing Rakim and Cool J to Cube and Snoop, that's the level they're on.
You've got your own fandom twisted, they're more on the level of an AZ or Killer Mike, shit maybe even Twista. These guys don't have songs or albums that would make a certified top 50 classics list, maybe to a west coast fan, but not to an average head.
I'm with Mike 100% on this.

az and killer mike didn't inspire nearly as many rappers as spice-1 or mc eiht. i don't think you realize that a whole generation of people grew up on that music...nobody in the game really grew up on az or killer mike, or was majorly influenced by them. ur right that snoop and ice cube are more comparable to rakim and cool j...but snoop and ice cube represent the whole west coast. spice-1 and mc eiht are mainly known as gangsta rappers. they're definitely gangsta rap legends, no way around it.

If you grew up on the East or South maybe your opinion about AZ and Killer Mike might be different. What if I said Juvenile and Redman? I'm not saying they're not West Coast Gangster Rap legends, cos obviously there's a lot of West Coast heads here that rate them highly, just they're stuck in that niche market, not legends to the overall hip hop circle. this is just my opinion though and I respect yours. You have to admit though, the comparison to LL and Rakim was slightly ridiculous.

true...it was more of an exaggeration. they aren't as big as LL or rakim, but they are legends on a lighter scale. definitely more important and influential in gangsta rap than AZ or Killer Mike were in any sub-genre of hip-hop. U'd have a better case with Juvenile and Redman, though.
