Crazy shit, I'd been calling to move on for a while but I didn't expect this, especially with the Japanese ownership group. All in all he had a great career here but it was time to move on, dude was having a horrible season for us. With that said he'll probably do better in NY with that lineup in a hitters park. Yankees vs Mariners tonight :o

Stick a fork in the Ichiro. He is toast.
-
ichiro gets his first hit in his first at bat

This would've been dope news 2 years ago. Hopefully this isn't another lose-lose trade for both teams like last time.

so far so good

I'm crying right now. Great day in my life.

I'm crying right now.
THERE IS NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!!!

I can see some Mariners fans & Red Sox fans crying though...

How was the Montero trade a lose lose? He's only 22 and hitting around .260 in the most inconsistent lineup in baseball. And this was also a good move for us, it was time to move on.

I mean, the guy is going to be 39 this October. He's hitting just over .250; it's not like it was a steal for us. Is a very nice improvement defensively & the closest thing we have to Gardner on the basepaths.
I mean at this point in his career it basically just is Brett Gardner's replacement since he's out for the year.
I mean although it was slim, there were rumors of Cashman trying to pull the move on Justin Upton, I hope getting Ichiro didn't kill that all together because Upton would be the real move.
Even though getting more hitting is a joke; gotta go get some arms. Unless the Yankees are really tryna average scoring ten runs a game lol.

Yeah, OBP below .300 as well, obviously not the same dude. But like I said earlier, I think hitting in a stacked lineup in a hitters park will help him out, and with big names like A-Rod and Jeter around he doesn't have to worry about trying to be "the guy" anymore. I think it's a good deal for both, a replacement for Gardner in your case, and for us it was time to hand the club over to the young guys.

Dude's playing for a team that's got a good track record of making players terrible, until I see him put up at least 2 years of solid stats I've got him booked as the next Justin Smoak. BTW, now that Smoak's been optioned to the minors I think you guys'll be seeing Montero at first a few times in the near future.
And you know how this has pretty much been a big L for the Yankees. Not just Pineda & Campos going down but also Martin's performance being a far cry from what Yankees fans have come to expect from "the catcher of the New York Yankees" (yes we've been spoiled by Posada, expected Montero to take over & now can't wait until Sanchez comes into the mix a few years from now or at least I can't lol).
Still I think you guys got the better of this trade (for now) since this means you guys won't have the pressure of deciding whether to sign Ichiro to an extension or not, plus you guys have been wanting to see your hitting prospects get more playing time (only to watch them get Smoak'd). And judging from how almost every M's fan I know turned their back on Ichiro ever since he couldn't hit 200 hits anymore I'm guessing you won't miss him much.

So just because a few players have had shitty careers in Seattle every other one is going to be? Not exactly logical. It's obvious we got the better of the trade, Pineda hasn't even played in a game and may never be what he was/could be, so the idea of the trade being a "lose lose" is honestly laughable at this point. And how does this have anything to do with Smoak? Sometimes prospects don't work out, doesn't mean that'll happen to every one, and Montero is a completely different player, so I don't even know how that's a comparison. It's his rookie year and he hasn't looked nearly as lost at the plate as Smoak has for his entire career (barring one month) here. So before you "book" him as the next Smoak (which I still fail to understand the logic behind) maybe give him a whole season?
PS, nice pictures, go fuck yourself ;)

can somebody give me a basketball analogy of this trade?

Ray Allen for a second round draft pick.

Turned on him? He wasnt a clubhouse leader or big in the community, in fact a few players came out anonymously sayingnhe was a cancer and he asked for a trade. Maybe you are a magic fan but when a player asks for a trade i dont want them to be here and ruin chemistry.

Looks like he's been playing pretty well. It's been a pleasure not having him shoved in my face by our marketing department (but now that the Seahawks are playing my Mariners interest has taken a big dip).

I will make a bold prediction and say that Ichiro will be inducted into Cooperstown as a New York Yankee.

No way. Unless he plays for another seven-eight years hitting .300 ball lmao.

That's about as logical as your Michael Pineda for Jesus Montero was a "lose lose trade" argument.
