Title: LAKER FANS CANCELS WEDDING TO WATCH KOBE'S RETURN
Post by: Sccit on December 08, 2013, 05:26:38 PM
Man cancels wedding in order to watch Kobe Bryant’s return

Kobe Bryant’s return is a big deal. In fact, for one big Laker fan, it was big enough of a deal to cancel his wedding for.

According to Hip Hop 365, a couple from San Diego have canceled their wedding after the groom decided it was vital that he sees Bryant’s return in person:

A San Diego couple were set to exchange wedding vows this Sunday after months of preparation until it was abruptly canceled, and they have Kobe Bryant to blame.
According to reports, 28 year old Simon Bradley, a self-described ‘obsessed’ Laker fan decided to post-pone his wedding so he can attend Kobe Bryant’s highly anticipated return to the court from a torn Achilles this Sunday at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The man promised his fiance’ Melissa they will set a future date, but we’re going to assume it will be after the season.

The couple, who were set to wed at the Banquet Hall inside the Marina Village inconvenienced about 60 guests.

That’s dedication – or craziness – right there

My wedding anniversary is in summer for a reason. I got married in 2008 and knew the Lakers could make the finals so I picked a date in the dead of summer.  Straight up real talk. Like I tell my wife, NBA playoff basketball is my dead time, don't even expect the trash to be taken out. At least on nights the Lakers play.

why? because they're fairweather bandwaggon fans??

The Clippers saw a huge surge in fans when CP3 showed up, but there's always been a consistent base of Clipper fans. Their attendance their first 2 years in Staples was bad, but since then it rose much higher. It stayed consistent at almost 17K until Paul showed up. Since then, they are actually beating the Lakers with an average of just over 19K (Lakers are just under this in that time period). So, no, not bandwagon fans. Just people who like a team.

clipper tickets are a thousand times cheaper than laker tickets.....fact of the matter is, the term "clipper fan" was an oxymoron up until recently.

Most my friends in California who are Clipper fans also have LeBron jerseys, use to be Bulls fans and Cavs fans in the 2000's. Now they talk about Lob City. Most I know also grew up in California and hated the Lakers, so there is this sense that they've always wanted an alternative to the Lakers, but will they still be Clipped fans in 5 years?

Is there any way that LA is supposed to be divided geographically in terms of Lakers/Clippers? Most places it would be East and West or some shit but they play in the same damn stadium.

it's always been divided as Varsity=Lakers JV=Clippers

did like it better when clippers played at the sports arena, tho

Typical of Laker fans. Always trying to find a way to take the Clippers down. It's funny but Laker fans talk about the Clippers way more than the Clipper fans talk about the Lakers.

The Clippers area is more the Westside of L.A., Orange County and down to San Diego. The rest of L.A., San Fernando, San Gabriel & Inland areas are the Lakers spots. Of course there's fans of both all over though, but this is what I've heard as the designated areas for each team.

Well it's easy to talk about Clipper fans because they were the same guys I was debating in the 90's over Michael Jordan verse Magic Johnson, in the 2000's with Kobe vs. LeBron and every one of them were Laker haters from the start. Non of them were Clippers fans then, but now their Facebook profile pics are of either CP3, them in a Lob City shirt or they have a Clipper banner. But 5 years ago, they were the ones that said, I don't have a favorite team, I follow players. THOSE are the Clipper fans right now.

As for geography, let's also keep it real, most of SoCal is Lakers, no matter were you are at. You are more likely to run into Clipper fans in OC because they almost moved to the Pound, but OC is still majority Lakers fans. In SD, the Clippers did play there along time ago, and there are a few fans there. I've never seen Santa Monica and that area as a big Clipper area. I know most are Laker fans, who I know, because the Lakers use to play in Inglewood and their practice facilities are there. So this Westside LA being Clipper area is news to me.

But most all of SoCal is mainly Lakers, it's just areas that have more Clipper fans than usual, like maybe up to 40% Clipper fans.

That's incorrect. I am Clipper fan myself. Since 1993. I never was a Jordan fan. What you are talking about IS the bandwagon fans. I know a lot of Clipper fans who DO NOT fit your profile that you've laid out. What I can tell you is that the Lakers have many more bandwagon fans than the Clippers. I've spoke to so many Laker fans who don't know shut outside of the past Decade. If they haven't seen it on Time Warner, they don't know about it. As far as geographics. Every team is given an area by the league this is the area that I heard was carved for the Clippers/Lakers. The league wants each team to have a fan base, hence the division.

this is completely false..u ever listen to sports radio?? the only thing clipper fans ever talk about is how they run LA and have overtaken the Lakers. Lakers never even mention Clippers, unless it's brought up.

this is somewhat true- there are more clipper fans in the OC and San Diego than most other places...but there are still more Laker fans than Clipper fans anywhere u go.

710 ESPN is a Laker homer station. The callers are the first ones to bring up the Clippers. In The rare occasion that a Clipper fan gets through, it's to defend the team. Look around on blogs, news stories, Facebook, Twitter... anywhere sports discussion take place. Laker fans are the 1st to bring up the Clippers. It's just the truth.

And if you believe there are more Clipper bandwagon fans than Lakers then I don't know what to tell you. If you truly believe that, more power to you. I'll give you a quote I was told by a Laker fan recently "my knowledge on the team does not stretch out beyond this season and last." This kid was fighting me to death on a topic we were discussing in regards to the Lakers. He identifies himself as a Laker fan.

for every 1 laker fan that only knows about the lakers previous 2 seasons, there are 10 clipper fans just the same...

maybe if u consider the fact that there are millions of laker fans world-wide and only thousands of clipper fans, then yea, there are more cats on the lakers bandwaggon.....but in terms of ratio, its not even close.

I'm not talking volume. I am talking ratio. I talk to 40-50 people a day. All in Southern California from San Diego to Pasadena. Sports is a constant topic and so often these "Laker" fans know nothing. When I encounter a Clipper fan, sometimes it's bandwagon but many times they're dropping names like Piatkowski, Vaught, Harper, Etc. I know a real Laker fan when they name check someone other than Fisher, Kobe, Pau or Shaq. That happens far less than you may think.

The only thing smart about LA is their ability to grasp that the NFL is a criminal enterprise and they refuse to bow to their mobster like behavior.

man no knock, but i think its hilarious you're trying to prove that theres been and there were a lot of legitimate clippers fans.

no way, brother, no way. not even int hat run was it in 05? or whatever they had. they still didnt have fans then, nor did they when i watched them extensively int he eric gordon/kaman/al thorton/camby era. which was a fun team to watch, and with our without CP3, they would of worked their way into the playoffs sooner or later.

but my oh my, people that dont even watch ball, people that didnt even know about eric gordon, kaman, etc etc were liking the clippers.

so no, all this amount of clippers fans being true fans that just didnt hop on like they hop on the lebron era cleveland or the miami cheats era is false.

in fact most clippers fans, were probably the bandwagon laker fans we always had, those playoff only time basketball fans, you guys can have those jokes.

but the whole socal area, hell even the whole state in general (come on, you know damn well the oracle arena was filled with laker fans before the curry/monta and the curry/thompson era)

is lakerland, especially the clippers, one of the most cursed franchises along with the bobcats, nets, knicks, and timberwolves. untill clippers win atleast around 15-16 championships, their franchise will never be on this level.

especially with an owner like donald sterling, this guy will not develop a team till he gets 2 legitimate stars he can bank money off of. thats a real elite franchise work ethic, lmao.

and i beg to differ, i never really talk about the clippers. why would we? or would i? i already know what type of team they are, they made some changes but essentially the same team and culture, they're just waiting for the playoffs to hopefully lift that clippers curse.

whats there to talk about? yeah its a fairly deep team, arguably less deep or more deep considering how you look at the roster. same goes with a lot of those playoff ensured teams.

i dont know how any laker fan can really put effort into analyzing and talking about the clippers, when we have so much upon us, free agency, who on our roster do we keep, do we hold out till later? or do we sign now? do we sign one 1st tier player? or two 2nd tier players?

anyways, if laker fans were mentioning the clippers, it was probably over the banners, which i dont really care about. LOL they cover our banners with 5 starters and 2 subs? its hilarious  in itself.

Not trying to prove anything. I know a whole lot of REAL Clipper fans. Guy who were fans of Danny Manning. Guys who were crushed when Ron Harper went down. Guys who were depressed during 80% of the 90's. You may not. I sure do. And I can tell you, the Clipper fans I know respect LeBron, but were never on his jock. Never were Heat fans.

Of course, the Franchise has a ton of issues. But, that is mostly due to Sterling. Dude is a disaster. This isn't his bread and butter. He makes all his money being a slum lord. If this team had another owner, I'm pretty sure there would've been a ring there somewhere. A lot of people just do not want to play for him. It's a wonder to me that the NBA does not do like the MLB did with Frank McCourt.

For Sterling, this is just some side business to show off. Nothing more. And when the money being spent is too high for his blood, he looks to sell off. He doesn't care how it looks.

You may not talk about the Clippers, but my brother in law is one of the biggest Laker homers I know and he seems to always figure a way to talk about the Clippers. The same for Co-Workers and other friends of mine who just at random talk about the Clippers. My favorite is the people who bad mouth CP3, but were the same ones creaming their underwear when he was traded to the Lakers. You bring up a lot of the same shit they do. Clipper fans would love to have 15 rings. Hell, we'd love to see 1. But, hey, at the end of the day, we know the team will only go as far as Donald let's them. I know that they're not winning a thing this year. They're missing a big who can play in the post. They're missing a lock down wing defender. Yet, this is what I like about Clipper fans. We can be honest.

good job, u know the clippers have no shot...do u want a cookie? i dont get it. on one hand, ur acting like clipper fans are superior to laker fans, and on the other, ur tryna say how humble clipper fans are and how they never talk about the lakers etc. good job contradicting urself. clipper fans who were sad when ron harper went down? lmfao....i have yet to meet one. actually, my aunts husband is now officially a clipper fan...he was a laker fan up until last year, when he was able 2 score clipper season tickets because they were way cheaper. he reminds me of u.

False. No contradiction here. I came into a topic about the Lakers where the Clippers were brought up and bashed by Laker fans. My point is that Clipper fans are not running around and bringing up the Lakers at will. Whereas the Laker fans stay talking about the Clippers.

Sorry that my points make too much sense.

shit, ur fuckin organization just covered up our banners lmfao. point proven....ur way out of touch with reality, and u always try to push ur nonsense as cold, hard facts. ease up.

You're right Clipper fans do say that. It's almost always in defense. Read any Clippers story Comments: "Clipper fan: Yeah the team is doing well." "Laker fan: Fuck the Clippers!  We run L.A." Then the Clipper fans defend tthemselves.

It's truth my dude. These are cold hard facts I have seen with my own eyes. Heard with my own ears. Of course the Clippers covered up the Banners. They're not their own. When it's their home game why would they want to have Laker banners hanging over them? It's business sense bro. Get real man.

You're right Clipper fans do say that. It's almost always in defense. Read any Clippers story Comments: "Clipper fan: Yeah the team is doing well." "Laker fan: Fuck the Clippers!  We run L.A." Then the Clipper fans defend tthemselves.

wtf? it's not in defense...i hear it all the time, it's the first thing a clipper fan says when he opens his mouth, whether in defense or not.  lt's almost always the main topic of convo for the clipper fans, when in reality, laker fans dont care about the clippers at all....it's pretty much like the clipper fans still tryna prove themselves and measure up, while laker fans are like "yea, alright, cool shit".. why would laker fans wanna talk about clippers? we aint tryna measure up, yall are....i know ur a clipper fan, but lets think rational here. what ur sayin is not only false, but makes no sense either.  570 is now more of a clipper station, and its the same old thang.

570 is terrible and I refuse to listen to Petros screaming. If those are the Clipper fans you're encountering then so be it. Those aren't the ones I know. Those Clipper fans you're talking about sound exactly like the Laker fans I encounter. Now I know being honest about the Lakers is tough for Laker fans, but try. Just try.

im being 100% honest, lakers dont give a fuck about the clippers, and thats real....clipper fans still feel like they gota measure up, covering banners, claimin yall run LA, etc......YOU try bein honest now. go....

And I'm being 100% honest. The real Clipper fans like myself and that I know do not walk around with a chip on our shoulder. We're not bringing up who runs L.A. outside of saying where the team ranks in the NBA. But the hurt Laker fans are the first ones to remind the Clipper fans of the rings and the banners. I'm being real, try it some time.

well, i guess there are more fake clipper fans than real ones then

and thanks for provin my point...we remind the clipper fans of rings and banners because they strut, "we run this town", "clipper city", "lakers are in the past" etc.

What point was proven? The fact that the Clippers fans talk about where they rank in the NBA or the fact that the Laker fans remind all Clipper fans about rings and banners? Wtf.

we remind of rings and banners only when clipper fans compare themselves to the laker franchise.....that is all

And so saying "Clippers are 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc in the West" is comparing to the Lakers franchise? Wow.

Until that translates to championships, it's all irrelevant. Enjoy this well you can. It wouldn't last long.

lmao

but ive never heard any clipper fan say that..it's always "we're way better than the lakers now", first thing that always comes out their mouth is that or something relatively close.

I've never seen that happen. You have. I've seen the exact opposite happen. You haven't. Agreed?

Haha. See what I mean.

It's not like the Lakers last won a title in 1956. And I wasn't comparing Lakers to Clippers. What you are saying is true this year, Clippers are having a better season. No problem with that. But I'll pay attention once the Clippers win a title.

Hey, I'm an Angel fan. And Dodger fans never cared about the Angels until 2002 when the Angels won. Now Dodger fans get on me for being an Angel fan and I can always shoot back with, at least my team won a title in this century. That gets Dodger fans even madder. But here is the thing, there will always be more Dodger fan, unless the Angels win 5 titles in the next 10 years. But just one title made Dodger fans take notice.

Right now, I am very "whatever" about the Clippers. I can careless. They covered the banners and I was a little annoyed. But overall, until the Clippers win one, you really have nothing to stand on. And as long as the Laker's last title is still in recent memory, Clipper fans have a HUGE uphill battle even getting people's attention.

@MDogg: That's fine. As fans, we know what he have in this team can disappear in an instant if Donny says so. We just enjoy the moment. We're not trying to say we're the new super power in L.A. that's the media. Whether they win a ring or not, we'll still be fans. Ask the Cleveland Browns. They still sell out regularly.

@NIK: My trouble believing will not deter me from just saying your experience is yours and mine is mine.

no way the bay area has always been anti-LA when it comes to almst everything and the warriors always had dedicated fans. im sure in sac theres still plenty of lakers fans but sac sucks dick

But lately, starting in the early 2000's, the Bay has shaken off the Lakers and started rooting for NorCal teams.

Yeah, but even my family up there are Warrior fans now. They even ditched the Raiders because they think they are going to move back to LA. It's weird, there is some anti-LA sports team movement up there right now.
