Title: lil half deads debut album vs daz debut...which do you prefer and why?
Post by: Sir Petey on January 04, 2014, 01:01:36 PM
half deads album is superior...it has all quiks studio musicians and shit on it but no dj quik....thats different.

anyways isnt that why they dissed half dead on MWC stdk? because he left deathrow to sign with priority after getting punked by some bloods or something?

I'd say Daz. Still had that deathrow vibe, good production, Daz is a better rapper, but probably the main difference is the guest features.
Daz got Snoop, nate, kurupt, pac, outlaws, mc eiht, wc, l.b.c crew, etc
HD's album has many dope songs, great g funk production but it had more filler than Daz's IMO. And not enough features for a weak-ish rapper(and i like HD i have all three of his albums).
I think HD's second album was better than his first.

I think I prefer Half Dead's first album, mainly for the flawless production. but Half Dead's pretty boring and painful to listen to, you listen to three tracks and you know it all.

Daz's album on the other hand is longer and Daz is a much better rapper, which isn't saying much lol. but daz can create compelling tales sometimes and has more energy and variety in his raps. he got gangsta cuts, introspective cuts, party cuts, laid back cuts, spiritual cuts, whereas Half Dead is a Z-List Warren G in that he mainly talks about Snoop Dogg, growing up in the LBC, and the bomb bitches he ran across on the eastside but with less style. Daz's album got a whole lot of dope features too, whereas Half Dead only got Chill, AMG and Miss B. Havin pretty much.

so overall i'll talke Half Dead cause the production is amazing but Daz's album is close.

Half Dead because of the album's production and I have to agree with bouli77, he's not good rapper.

in a freestyle battle half dead would shit on daz prolly but yeah as rappers they both suck.

daz would say some old shit like "in actuality they faced with technicality"

daz is pretty limited lyrically but at least he's a decent rapper flow wise and he got things to say, sometimes. like he has somewhat story telling abilities (baby mama drama, only 4 u, do you know, it might sound crazy). half dead is extremely limited lol, just listen to songs like Back in the Day it's pretty risible how he run out of things to say after his first verse. thankfully for him dude got insane production backing him.

half dead wouldn't shit on anybody in a freestyle but a Daz/HD battle is definitely something I would never want to listen to lmao.

half of the shit in half deads debut album was all recycled shit from there freestyles...it all sounds like snoop minus any talent or creativity.

daz would sound very similar had he not had the influence of kurupt...some of the early dpg shit (big pimpin) had snoop writing the lyrics, similar vibe to early half dead.

soopalfy is actually kinda dope with the pen he helped with daz raps too

Daz debut because of the guest spots...It was kind of a Dogg Food part 2 but not nearly as dope

Soopa was the shit in the early days, his verse on One 213 is beyond kinda dope

They were a clique that comes with it

If Soopa was directly influenced by Kurupt he ended up the better artist :D

yeah daz in the beginning was mostly ghostwritten by Snoop, however Kurupt did say (while they were beefin, so there might be some truth to it) that Daz picked up things on his own, and you can sense an evolution from his 93 type of raps to his Dogg Food days to then his solo days, IMO his best phase was Dogg Food, and then his solo style.

Soopafly is a dope rapper, way better than Daz and lightyears ahead of H-D lol. he can write, rhyme, is occasionally witty.

Dead Has Arisen is dope as fuck : Steel On A Mission 96, Cavvy Sounds, Still Rollin', Back in the Day, Southern Girl, some of the dopest g-funk beats ever !

yeah lmao i got them mixed up, honestly both are equally good and have a similar sound. death has arisen has dope production from start to finish, even the skit wit Miss B. Havin rappin' is outstanding, they should have made a complete song off that skit. but my favorite beats are Had 2 Be A Hustla, Still Got It (god what a beat), deadicated,  12 Pacofdoja.

still my favorite Half Dead song has to be "Hood Life" from the Substitute OST, the beat is insane and Half Dead is pretty decent, it's too bad Tray Deee's only doing useless adlibs at the end.

apparently Half Dead has no DPG features cause Death Row at the time wouldn't allow outside collaborations except when they were greenlighted by Suge (I.e. DPG on Hammer's 94 album the funky headhunter), the original Still on a Mission features Snoop Dogg and you can hear his style on the song. as Petey said Half Dead sounds like Snoop (and Warren too, that's that LBC style)

ok so i went and listened to this song hoodlife that i havent heard in so many years and i noticed something i never noticed before at the end of the song he starts talking to a homie in the studio and i think that homie was tray deeeeeeeeeeeeeee. i also think tray dee wrote this or helped because he used a line i heard tray dee say later on in his career...."dippin while im flippin, listening to the oldies..." anyone else ever noticed that?

yeah that's tray deee i mentioned it in my post, i was always frustrated with that song cause i felt tray deee could have spit something but conceptually it's a solo song, a collaboration wouldn't have fitted the storytelling. good point about the line you mentioned, never paid any attention to that.

my substitute ost is in my car, i'll hook u up as soon as i get it from there
