Title: RRGB, Kuruption, or DAT Whoopty Woop
Post by: TraceOneInfinite on October 18, 2026, 07:58:06 AM
Help me prove to Sccit he is disrespecting my dad — I mean Daz — the legend and flawless emcee on the mic and behind the boards the greatest producer (after Dre) and his magnificent effort in 98' to try to save the West, Death Row, and my childhood.

Vote for Daz

he dd say in the other thread that he doesn't even acknowledge the East Coast Disc though

if its strictly the West Coast Disc then I have to agree with Sccit

streetz is easily better than RRGB

RRGB is a great album, but it's that same death row sound, only a step below their top tier classix

streetz is a completely different sound that the west coast ran with during the resurgence era and it was done to perfection

RRGB
Kuruption
Dat Whoopty Woop

In that order for me. Kuruption (West disc) is very underrated and I like Dat Whoopty Woop but it's on a level below the other two.

I'm going to have to agree with SCITT for the first time ever; RRGB isn't a GREAT album by any measure, with only two or three tracks reaching classic sounding DR level.
Having said that, the other two albums are kinda on the same level...not great in any shape or form.  I think I enjoy the Soopafly album the most, but I'd say the Kurupt album has the most songs of the three I still bump (but only like 4 or 5).
So I guess I'd rank Daz album number one off the strength I can play it front to back, but I don't think it's fucking with  his best work

damn this is the FIRST time teecee agrees with me

that means he doesn't believe sex with women is enjoyable

it means he doesn't think rakim is a better rapper than shaggy 2 dope

it means he thinks lindsay clancey was an inspirational woman

but he finally found something we can agree on- daz's debut not being classic

that alone might make me reconsider

You were right to point out that it's a perfect record from the Resurgence era but the mid-90's Death Row era was superior to the resurgence era which puts RRGB over Streetz because that was Daz prized stash he had in the canon and he's said in multiple interviews that's why he stayed at Death Row.  He was sitting on classic material from the golden age and just waiting for a proper release which he finally got in Spring 98

Absolutely RRGB is better than streez. RRGB has better features overall, better production, and kurupt doesn't rap very well on some songs on streetz. Streetz was the beginning of Kurupt just basically freestyling a lot of his verses and rhyming words even though it doesn't make much sense. The title track is my favorite song, and kurupt flows very well on there, but if you really listen to the lyrics, they are pretty stupid.

this shows you are just going with the narrative about Kurupt and not really a fan of his

if you were you would realize that this started on Kuruption! not Streetz

Streetz lyrics were a step up just like Sccit stated...were they Dogg Food and Death Row era Kurupt? no but certainly better than Kuruption!

and if you listened to Kuruption! then you would know that he just got lazy but could bring it when he wanted to like Fresh, or Ask Yourself a Question

LOL, I'm not at all going with the narrative. This is my opinion. Kurupt's verses on Puffin on blunts, doggy dogg world, and stranded on death row are some of my favorite verses of all time. I've been a fan of Kurupt since I heard him on the chronic as a teenager in the 90s. How long have you been a fan of him?

I personally don't like kuruption at all aside from about 5 tracks. I do like Streetz all the way through and I've listened to streetz probably 10x as much as I listened to Kuruption. So it's possible I just didn't notice Kurupt started his freestyling on Kuruption.

Regardless, that doesn't take away anything I said. Even if kurupt's lyrics on streetz are a step up from Kuruption, that doesnt' mean anything. They were still nonsense lyrics.

you are right I misspoke when I used the word narrative you are entitled to your opinion...but even with Kuruption! sure he freestyled half the album no denying that but that doesn't take away the fact that 2 GOAT west coast classic tracks are on it although mostly due to the production...and when he wanted to he could still spit there were at least 2 or 3 on each disc where he was flowing like not necessarily old times but good enough...and as far as nonsense when has Kurupt ever been more than a great technical rapper who also happens to have a great delivery and voice in his prime?

and if you want something introspective by him just listen to track 10 on the east disc "Thats Gangsta" produced by Warren G

streetz was emcee skills on display for the most part

kuruption was simplistic freestyle type raps for the most part

not sure where he came up with streetz being the beginning of the end when it was heralded as a return to form

and not sure why infinite co-signed that, but it seems like he must not have truly given that album the time of day

yeah I'm not exactly sure that Infinite gave Streetz the play that he did Kuruption! because he lost faith in Kurupt pretty much after that

I do know that he was very much anticipating Kuruption! like me and he was initially dissapointed like me

I just have been fascinated with it for almost 30 years so even though my GOAT is Dogg Food I have probably listened to the west disc of Kuruption more

The reason for the mix-up is because I haven't listened to Streetz in a lot of years.  I still bump Kuruption, and never stopped bumpin' Kuruption because of my fascination with that "Lost" period of West Coast Rap—the "In Between" period from Doggfather's release date to the release date of "Bitch Please".

Kurupt's album is a vintage album from that period so Im still fascinated by it.  .it's sort of like that Lost period brings me joy because it's like this mysterious era where still all things were possible.  It's like visiting some forgotten time or place.

Streetz on the other hand I used to bump every day it stayed in my rotation in my car for over a year from 99 till 2001-I played the shit out of that album and loved it—and knew it front to back lyrically.

But just like MMLP, Top Dogg, Dre's 2nd solo, Restless, Last Meal—I just can't listen to them anymore because it puts me into a really bad mental state I used to be in in those years.

...so it's possible for me to misspeak on Streetz and forget that Kurupt really was bringing his A game on that album.

you and I share that fascination with Kuruption! so much so its became my most played album ever...I get where you are coming from though especially '98...just that year alone you had Daz, Kurupt, Snoop, Bad Azz, Nate Dogg all release solos...even Michel'le released her Death Row album

Yeah 98' was a bonanza all across media genre's — even Titanic and "Iris" came out that year.  If you remember the movies were all blockbusters that year, and quality

It was the internet boom economically — before all the negative cultural effects disrupted life, culture, and music and film industry.

98 was like the last real year.  Even for me.  98' was my last pre-internet year — my first email address was Royce_59@yahoo.com because Eminem had dropped early 99

I'm still rockin wit GFunk2024 though in the regard that...

Yeah sure, Kurupt sounded hungry and like he was bringing his A game to the table and actually "trying" on Streetz.  On Kuruption we often suggest that he wasn't "trying" hard enough...

But I still wanna defend GFunk2024's post a bit because Streetz was kind of the first time he really stopped making sense and started to do all that...

 "tarradactal rap actual T-Rex Tyranosaurus
Multiple Miracle catacalysmic chemical"

type of raps.

In his Death Row era lyrics it was more about life and kickin' reality raps really down to earth—as Snoop had advised him.  Then on Kuruption it was still that way but just with less care, but still about life and not just rhyming crazy words that don't really have a reality to them like the way Ghostface Killah style

Before someone jumps on here and is like, but on Kuruption he raps:

"Gigantic, titanic, tarantula"

...but that actually fits my narrative on this, because "Ask Yourself" was recorded after the album was already finished—and HighEyeCue might be old enough to remember those MTV segments that aired on MTVNews where Kurupt reported Dre would be producing his next album — bottom line was he was so excited with the way that final song "Ask Yourself" came out that it pretty much gave him his direction for his next album in some ways at least

I always looked at that album as Death Row's last stand

It was the last true classic that they ever released

but tbh I like RAW better that is his real magnum opus

How about this... Verse 1 of Kuruption vs. Verse 1 of Streetz

Kuruption

Gangsta, gangsta, I'm a G from the D
That's what the riders see
I'm a get a quarter-mil, quarter-inch of a deal
Come through - grey and blue
I'mma show you what I do, Where I hang and shit
Dogg Pound Gangstaville in the cut, nigga what
I'm a slip through, if you trip, I'mma trip too
Get a bitch to strip 'til the homies dip through
Got my nigga Slip too (what up Slip?)
And I got a whole eighth of weed
And that's all we need - 'til we hit the next spot
Cause when I flew in, I knew it was 'bout to be a G'd up reunion
Ain't no words to express this song
Cause one day you're here and the next you're gone
This goes out to the homies
And this is straight from the heart and true
And This One's for U

Streetz

Psychosomatic, automatic static

Ain't no words to express this song
Cause one day you're here and the next you're gone
This goes out to the homies
And this is straight from the heart and true
And This One's for U

when I used the word narrative in a reply to gfunk that's exactly what i meant... he admits to only listening to it a handful of times...The universal narrative being that Kurupt fell off so hard on Kuruption! that he only came back that much stronger on Streetz.,,but if you take 15 random tracks from Kuruption! and do the same with Streetz and Space Boogie you can see that he had just as many lyrical songs on there as the other albums...plus the non lyrical tracks he was actually making sense almost story telling to an extent like Thats Gangsta the Warren G track...there is also a track on the East disc called Game where he was as close to Dogg Food lyrically as any track on his solo albums...plus he was story telling if you really listen to the lyrics...overall the song suffers from a bad hook and the beat is just ok but I started to love that track when I went back years later and really listened to the lyrics all the while looking at them on Ohhla...dont get me started on the mistakes they make on that site though ;D

You got me to give "It's a Set Up" another chance and it's a damn shame I slept on it all those years with the album in my rotation and skipping over it

Maybe I'll have to give "Game" another chance.

The narrative that works for me is... Kurupt was held to a standard on Death Row, after that he got sloppy on Kuruption, so he worked hard to tighten up on Kuruption, then on Space Boogie he got da assist from Fred Wreck.  Then totally fell off like as hard as any rapper has fallen after Space Boogie.

^^is that the general narrative?

you are on point with the first 2...the narrative with Space Boogie was that its a very good album but mostly due to the production primarily by Fred Wreck but Daz and Fly also did tracks...so yeah a lot of people when asked will say that Space Boogie is their favorite...but for instance check this track out which was actually a Streetz leftover released on Space Boogie

to me this more nonsensical than anything he spit on Kuruption!... it almost sounds he is inventing words just to have them rhyme

DAZ with this album just proves he dont need Dre, Quik or any others producers

lol there were plentttyyyy of co-producers and seasoned musicians involved in RRGB

so how is the narrative not correct then?  All you did was added some details.  You said mostly due to Fred Wreck and then added some more details, whch I agree with and which also fit the narrative.

And agreed that lyrically on the Daz track you posted -- though I will say his flows really melted nicely over the beats that were bangin on Space Boogie, that sort of shouting style of flowing really made those tracks pop out the speakers and I turned my trebles and highs up and no subs just amps and 5'9' and 6'9 pioneer and polk speakers sounded amazing in my 99' Camri back when that was actually good car because the year was only 2001, lol

just reading what I wrote yeah you are correct lol 8)

so i probably was thinking of gfunks comment about Kuruption! Streetz and the narrative

I don't remember him mentioning Space Boogie but maybe that too

the way you broke it down is very similar to Roscoe's verse on I Call Shots...I think Organized Noize might have done that but yeah banging beat, good flow but he was making no sense whatsoever real lyrical miracle type rap...basically the definition of "talking loud but aint saying shit" lol

RRGB > Streetz

You were right to point out that it's a perfect record from the Resurgence era but the mid-90's Death Row era was superior to the resurgence era which puts RRGB over Streetz because that was Daz prized stash he had in the canon and he's said in multiple interviews that's why he stayed at Death Row.  He was sitting on classic material from the golden age and just waiting for a proper release which he finally got in Spring 98

RRGB by Daz and Streetz by Kurupt were each one's magnum opus.  Their peak solo albums.  Take the best tracks from both and you have an idea of what Dogg Pound's follow up album WestCoast Aftershock could've been.

Streetz comes too late in the time line to think of it as a possible follow up to Dogg Food. Especially since Kuruption came out before.  For fun you could put together a fandmade Dogg Pound West Coast Aftershock album with a tracklist like this that would've been mind-blowing...

1.  U Can't Cee Me (Dogg Pound version before it was given to 2pac)
2.  Got My Mind Made Up (DPG, Wutang, and Redman version before 2pac)
3.  Blueberry (feat. LBC Crew before given to Snoop's album)
4.  Nuthin But a Cavi
5.  Me In Your World
6.  Make Some Noise
7.  Fresh
8.  Tremendous Odds (sick ass track before given away to Duck Down and they did nothing to elevate it)
9.  Gang Bangin Ass Criminal
10.  It's Goin Down
11.  Our Daily Bread
12.  Groupie (before it was given to Snoop)

^^Add in some sequencing, some Ricky Harris, WBalls, Big Pimpin type skits or interludes, stretch it to 15 tracks (maybe even get rid of "Groupie")—That's a 5 mic classic.  You got your hit single with "Nuthin But A Cavi" you got your follow up single with "Me In Your World", and you even got a 3rd single with "U Can't Cee Me".  No skips on the album.  All of it up to the Dogg Food/Death Row/gold standard.

yeah for sure, I knew I was missing something in your message, but sometimes you got to guess the meaning—so the other person knows what part you missed...

It's like if you are dealing with a low talker or someone speaking a new language, and they say something that sounds to you like, "zubza see backbee dayso" you just guess and say, "Oh, You see Subway in the back of the dayspa?"   And then they say, "No.  I say "I eat Subway every day".   They know what part you missed.

Now, let's say, you just say, "What?"   Then they might say, "cuzo wat toe" (cause I want to).   Then you say "What?" again?   And now you they are on another sentence and you have two sentences now you don't understand from them instead of just one.  Because they thought when you said, "What" you asked what, as in "WHY WOULD YOU EAT SUBWAY EVERYDAY?"   lol

Long explanation, but I'm a language teacher in a foreign country so i think about this type of stuff.

Aftermath Presents is 100X better than Dilinger and Young Gotti
Doggfather is 10X better than Dillinger and Young Gotti
Raw > Dillinger and Young Gotti
Strictly > Dillinger and Young Gotti

lol ur trippin

dillinger and young gotti is arguably a classic

i remember some people arguing it was better than dogg food, which is wrong, but just the fact that it was a discussion should tell u how great that album was

Never was a fan of the album.  💿 looked like something a kid printed off of his home computer.  I had a hard time taking it seriously
