What happened to Nate Dogg's unreleased album It's A Wonderful Life ? The album was officially announced in late 2012 by Seven Arts Music and United Media & Music Group, with an initial target release date in the first half of 2013 feat. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Jay-Z, and Mary J. Blige
-
i dont think its a finished album. so it will never come out i guess.
-
It seems nearly impossible to get new music released from artists who have passed away. Too much fighting from the estate, the label(s) involved, and then the featured artists/producers. It is sad, because these people are gone, the music is already recorded, and most people will never hear it.
-
Too much tied up in the estate. It's not profitable to release albums anymore. By the time you pay for mixing, mastering, sample clearance, production of actual product, etc....the estates would rather just have the money and be done with it. They don't have the passion or love for the music like the original artist had. 9 times out of 10 fans don't like the posthumous release and it taints the artist's legacy, thus, costing the estate money in the long run. From a financial standpoint, there's no reason to do it.
-
perfectly understandable, but just take a look at the artists, or rather the labels and see how many millions they've made from a Nate Dogg feature.
Let's take an example. That was a mega hit.
Area Codes (feat. Nate Dogg)
Good Relationships (Ludacris Feat. Katt Williams, Nate Dogg & Snoop Dogg)
And you're trying to tell me that this guy doesn't have enough cash? He clearly couldn't care less, but if I were sitting on tracks like these, I'd release them for free.
-
Now one could count how many unreleased tracks by Nate Dogg exist. And why wait? For example, Mike Dean or Timbaland.
-
i'm more interested in getting a cd copy of his self titled album
it was released as a promo advance and i know a few people got their hands on it
i remember a copy selling for $100 on ebay which i wish i woulda copped
-
Never heard of his project. His self-titled Nate Dogg album that never officially released on Elektra was his big unreleased album.

There's promo single LPs out there too. Not too pricey if you know where to look.

I would have bought it probably over 15 years ago and cant remember where from, maybe E-Bay.
I've just moved houses recently and it's packed away, once I find it I'll post pics.

That's also a very good example! I mean, the album was actually finished, and the promo CD does exist, just like the Jazza Pha and Cee-Lo Green album! I think with the Nate Dogg album, there was some issue with the label....the budget got cut.
Have you checked Discogs? You probably have... since the album was last sold there on Oct 7, 2026.
-
Maybe we'll get lucky; Snoop once mentioned that he wanted to clear the rights for the Eastsidaz albums... and if I understood correctly, Nhale claimed that Snoop had gone behind people's backs to secure the rights to Nate Dogg's catalog.
I mean, you really have to ask: what kind of idiots were sitting at Elektra back then?

Shame Warner didn't pick up where they left off, smh. Then again typical major record label behavior
-
Does anyone know what happened to the Nate Dogg and Nhale figures? Back then, Nhale mentioned that there would be figures of Nate and himself, and you could even see some in his post.

So, the album is finished, producer paid, engineer paid, and so on....and now we're just going to let it gather dust?

yup
and i believe the ones that recently sold on discogs are fan made bootlegs, not the actual promo copys dropped by the label

the only official aka promo release
https://www.discogs.com/de/release/3705732-Nate-Dogg-Nate-Dogg
But couldn't you check, once you've received the CD, whether it's a homemade copy?
-
Another thing I really don't get: I was in the iTunes Store yesterday and suddenly there are so many Nate Dogg tracks available as singles—featuring various unknown artists, sometimes even with the exact same hook. Do they actually have the rights to release this stuff?

the notes by the seller say it's an unofficial bootleg
-

Yes, you're absolutely right. The label released a single, the sales figures weren't up to par, and it was a cutoff. But it's such a good album; they should have promoted it properly.
And at the end of the day, the album is there, so just put it out.
-

Elektra back in the time before they were shut down. How many CDs were handed out? There must be an original CD somewhere.
-

58 People say they own the CD, someone must have the original; in other words, how many CDs were pressed?

it wasn't pressed it was a promo cd-r
which means it would be fairly easy to make a bootleg of

Chill, i'm just bustin your balls. What I know of, it is a CD-R, so no telling if it would be 100% legit or not unless someone knew what brand of CD-R Elektra was using to press these.
On the real, rumor was Snoop was trying to get Nate's masters, so you could get at him. If not, NHale probably has the masters, he's someone you should also be able to get a hold of fairly easily though your affiliates.

i do .. im willing to go as far as selling your mother for it
snoop favors are reserved for bigger objectives tho

Another thing I really don't get: I was in the iTunes Store yesterday and suddenly there are so many Nate Dogg tracks available as singles—featuring various unknown artists, sometimes even with the exact same hook. Do they actually have the rights to release this stuff?
I see this all the time on iTunes with a lot of different artists.
There's no way these no-name people have the rights to use any of these artists as features on their shitty songs but theyre probably trying to game the algorithm to boost their visibility on the site and because there's so much music on there it probably just doesn't get noticed by music labels.
Either that or because no one's buying or streaming these tracks that the rights holders just don't care, but it does sort of tarnish the artist's rep or legacy somewhat when you see a Nate Dogg ‘feature' tagged onto some Greek rapper's song, for example.
-
That self-titled Nate Dogg album that never came out had features from Redman, Lil' Mo, Fabolous, Eve, Memphis Bleek, Freeway, Young Chris, Timbaland, Warren G, DJ Quik, Snoop Dogg, Knoc-turn'al, and Xzibit.
-

Ah good ol "yo mama" jokes, very creative. They never get old. Classy behavior for a mod.
Guess if you only get one favor from Snoop, better make it count...whatever ‘favor' you're gonna ask of him....hmm. Ashame a DPG member such as yourself only is so nervous and shy to ask him for anything. Wonder if Kurupt and Daz are out pacing worrying when they need to ask him for something too. DPG 4 Life.

My bad, I missed read and thought you were talking about his debut album on Death Row - G-Funk Classic's Vol. 1
-
elektra folded right before release
ok thx for the info
So, a huge shame on Elektra; that's also why the Knoc-Turn'al - Knoc's Landin' album never got out
But what I don't understand is that they dropped the EP in July 2002.
Knoc-Turn'al - L.A. Confidential Presents Knoc-Turn'al that must have been just before then
It's just a disgrace that all this stuff was never officially released.
just like the Kokane album Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Kane....well, Kokane did release Da White Album several years later, but many tracks weren't on it.
You Will Know (Feat. Snoop Dogg)
Black Eyed Peas (Feat. Devin The Dude) just to name two favorites
as well as the planned albums with War Zone and Western Union, we did get one Western Union album, at least.
-
you trying too hard
You're right, i need to stick with the simplistic 'yo mama' jokes or nut riding comments. Much less effort.

Unfortunately, if you had access to every artist's catalog, this isn't unusual. Look at the amount of Michael Jackson stuff still leaking to this day, it's crazy. Musicians are in the studio for long stretches of time making demos, songs, etc. Some morph into album caliber songs, some just remain demos. Some are just a verse or two. Guest rappers come in and record verses for various songs that may or may not end up getting used. It's the music biz. 80-90% of things that get recorded never end up anywhere, it's not just a rap thing.

it doesn't mean anything check how many people say they have "once upon a time in shaolin" cd...

Exactly. Focus on your album and record label. You're too important to waste what little free time you have on pointless bickering.
