He sounded raw and gangsta back then, now he trys to sound commercial, and funky like snoops shit and it doesnt suit him. Tracks like Ambitionz As A Ridah, and In Califnornia are classics. Daz hasnt released a classic beat or track since he left Deathrow.
Deathrow was his best era. He should have never left Tha Row.
-
yep yep, but RAW was also tight... and its post-DR
but his newer beats suck, like 90% of em... and i really think that i produce better beats then him.. its a shame - hrhrhr, but on the other hand: nowadays it isnt hard to achieve that goal..
-
Daz has always spit hot shit in and out of death row.. im not so sure about his beats though
-
of course
-
I perfer his older shit, but there ain't nothin wrong with his new shit.
-
Daz's old shit>Daz's new shit.
That's not to say his new stuff is bad, but it's nothing compared to the death row dayz.
-
the last album daz produced and was dope was this is the life i lead
aftre that daz didnt really put out any thing that impressed me
daz and dre is a killer combo
daz and mike dean is even a more killer combo
daz nowadays no where to be found close to that prod style
i liked dpgc muzik and hitting donuts in the streets though
hope he steps his game up again

Being on Tha Row has nothing to do with it...the matter is that this ain't 1996 anymore. G-Funk has played itself out, at least in its 1990s' incarnation. Daz, like Dre, Quik, Hutch and most other West Coast producers, simply changed with the times, and I don't fault him for that. To be honest, I actually like most of his newer stuff - before, I could never think of his beats as clones of Dre's (except with less sonic detail); most of the stuff I hear on his solo albums wows me.
-
i kinda liked tha dogg pound gangsta lp, i thought it was smooth
-

I think its hilarious how Daz says Dre stole his beats in the Death Row days. Dre hasn't worked with Daz in like 9 years, and outside of Cali, NOBODY is checkin for him. Of course his Death Row resume is 100x that of his post death row resume.
-
Daz is surely not as good as he used to be but it goes with the time, when was the last time u heard some quality albums with productions on the same level as "All Eyez On me" ??
-
dogg pound gangsta lp tight fa sho 8
DPGC muziq is Fiyaa Well Bangin tracc 8) :banana_trippin:
New shit Still Dope¬¬!
-
holy shit YES. his production was so fuckin great, now im really deceived by dpg
-
HES the artist that is improved over time in my opinion.
All my favorite beats hes done exept a couple were after deathrow like: coastin, at night, passion, i got luv, boyz n the hood, blaze up, my mama told..,nothin can stop us, hittin donutz, say it, a dog pound gangta, etc
-
of course
-
Daz has always some dope bangin muzik 8)
-
comparing him to his earlier stuff of course its not the same, simply cause thats a different era of west coast rap , the sound has changed and so has the producers, its the same with dre he has changed his style and no1 seems to complain bout his new beats which personally i think are v poor,
but daz has not put out a bad beat practically ever, even his newer 1s, albums this year dpg lp, gangsta crunk, d&g 2 may not appeal to every1 but u cant deny that the beats are above average to bangin, prove me wrong by mentioning a bad beat daz has done out of these three albums
the last album daz produced and was dope was this is the life i lead
after that he had released dpgc u know what im throwin up(he didnt produce anything on that)
then it was makaveli and dillinger, this was short but the production was :o
i got love in these streets was bangin
then the albums this year were very consistant especially dpg lp (prob album of the year imo, songs like come close and nuthin can stop us now 8) )

Daz has always been tight... from his g'd up material (i.e. 2pac's Ambitionz As A Ridah) to the smooth material (i.e. my favourite Daz beat ever: Nate Dogg & Butch Cassidy - Scared Of Love).... but like every other damn producer, i prefer his pre-97 stuff...

Mygla you pretty much hit the nail on the head
His DR beats were unfadable, but you gota remember that people like Quik mixed that shit
One of the greatest beats Daz ever made is pretty much forgotten about, im talking about " Mission Cleopatra" with snoop and some french guy......CRAZY beat....is only a few years old too......
-
I perfer his older shit, but there ain't nothin wrong with his new shit.

yeh i think its SAFE to say we all prefer death row daz than 2000 + daz
maybe one day DPG and SUGE will end their beefs........
who knowz....

the real question is who doesn't prefer his old shit
-
His old shit obviously...

See, that's kinda the problem with the West Coast in general - it's still living off its past. People want the same 'ol G-Funk gangsta shit that's been around since '92. Homie, saturating the market with G-Funk is how the West fell off in the first place - people got tired of it. And suddenly, nobody wanted to hear it anymore. Unless people learn to accept that the past is the past and move on, the West is never going to shine again.
-
Oh hell yeah. That's why I cant even really fuck with Daz anymore.
-
The beats on Revenge, Retaliation and Get Back were awesome.

^I agreed with everything else you said, but I disagree on how the west fell off. I hear alot people saying that west coast fell off because the market was saturated with g-funk and the consumers got tired of it. I completely disagree with that. It was 2pac's death, deathrow's fall along with suge's imprisonment, cube going to movies, and snoop going down south. 2pac's death was like the domino effect. If it wasn't for 2pac's death, I doubt g-funk would have dissappeared the way it did.
You can't rely on the commercial audience when it comes to sound because they go with whatever is popular whether it is actually crappy or good and they never look bad. An example of this is today's audience. I remember someone here talking about going to a concert where they played dogg pound 'what would u do' and no one was feeling it, but when snoop's 'drop it like its hot' came on, the crowd went crazy. :-\

Not feelin' 'What Would You Do'? Damn, some people just don't appreciate good music.
Then again, I suppose there are a lot of G-Funk/Death Row classics that wouldn't get love from today's crowd.
