Dubcnn: DJ Quik Greatest Hits Live Show Review
« on: February 10, 2006, 12:41:50 AM »
Look out for the "Greatest Hits Live" DVD coming soon from DJ Quik and the Mad Science camp.

I recently had the opportunity to attend the DJ Quik Greatest Hits Live show at the House of Blues on Sunset. Here is a brief review I found, written by BEN QUIŃONES of L.A. Weekly. (This review is in reference to the February 3rd show)

"My Grammy Week got poppin’ tonight with a DJ Quik show that was off the hinges! A perm'd out Quik walked out and warned the audience, “This is something you don’t see in a hip-hop show.” True that: With a nine-piece live band and two back-up singers, Quik began to rap (or sing, really) classics from his first album, Quik Is the Name, like “Sweet Black Pussy,” “Born and Raised in Compton,” and the cool irie -feelin’ reggae hit “Tha Bombudd.” Bass player Erick Coomes made the night sound real deep-funky, especially on the James Brown cover “The Payback.” Quik also went into his new album, Trauma, including “Fandango” — with B-Real at his side — “Till Jesus Comes,” and “Black Mercedes,” with Nate Dogg joining him onstage. Quik even brought out surprise guest Chingy on the cut “Get Down.” For the encore he performed “Tonite,” and celebrated the night with some Veuve Clicquot champagne, some bottles of which he passed out to his loyal fans. We saw producer Fredwreck, Power 106’s Big Boy, Capitol Records’ Richie Abbott and the Mijares clan, Sara and Zazil. (Man, those girls can dance!) Quik finished things off by stage diving into the crowd. It was a night to remember."

** Robert Bacon was also playing with the band throughout the whole set.

Man, I wish I was that lucky to see Quik performing his greatest hits. I hope you LA people realize how lucky you are.
Here in Europe we don't even have a small chance that Quik will ever perform here...

:) Sounds pretty hopeful Rud. Actually I might consider hopping on a plane to the UK to see Quik. I just hope that if it ever happens, it will be during a weekend, otherwise it'll be difficult for me to go (college & teacher training and stuff).

Where would I be without Dubcnn...lol 8)

yeah last time he was backstage, and he still didnt come out. all of aftermath was backstage, 50 dre em, lloyd banks, even mariah. after the show i heard rumors that game got into a car crash on the way to the show and didnt feel liek coming out. cos quik was shoutin out BWS like crazy, and then the show kinda just ended abruptly without game coming out. it was kinda wack.. but yeah quik was pretty disappointed this time, especially after the no show last time... he even like reiterated several times that "since game didnt show up..."
