exactly there's a lot of basketball fans outside of the southwestern united states who don't know the full impact of chick hearn (i.e the maestro mindeds of the world) the names they know are marv albert, bill walton, reggie theis, and all the others out there now.

6^Chick Hearn has done other work, not only with the Lakers... he was even the primary voice for basketball broadcasters in many hollywood films...The fact that he was a hometown broadcaster and was more recognized than a national broadcaster like Marv Albert or Kevin Harlan is part of what made him so amazing...

Chick Hearns - how can you denie the man who coined the term SLAM DUNK, and he did call some games on national tv back in the 80's

This man started almost every used basketball term. To be complete honest, when I'm in California now, I will watch them on national TV because local tv is not the same as when Chick was calling the games. Since 1960, he set the standard, and I bet you Marv, Harlan and the rest all watch Chick tapes to study calling basketball games. He is to basketball broadcast what Babe Ruth is to the slugger, what Jim Brown is to running backs, what Harry Caray is to baseball, he is the original gold standard. I've heard them all, and I'd take Chick during the 3-Peat era (his worst broadcasting, made tons of errors and forgot names, but still had that charm and vocabulary that made him special) over any other broadcaster you have. This is not a biased, I'd take all the others over the current Laker team (still love you Stu, but they leave you with some interesting people, I laughed with one of them compared Kobe to MLK, then watched the game on TNT) but Chick was one of a kind.
