Lakers had Bird rights, I believe, which is why the Lakers had an opportunity to match the contract GS offered him. I doubt there is any shortage of money to spend on players in LA. LA could have kept him if they wanted him.

Talking about Kwame, i'd probably rather sign him with the minimum as a role player than having Turiaf in my team with a multi-millionaire contract signed.
I'm not talking shit about Turiaf, don't get me wrong. He is ok. But i think we need a player who could backup Bynum and defend and hustle under the basket.
Turiaf plays with a lot of energy, but it ain't enought. I don't want to see us getting outmuscled down the rim no more.

where did I overrate Turiaf? I never said he was a great player...he was definitely a skilled, seriviceable role player, though. It's not like he was Mark Madsen, coming in for garbage time minutes, running up and down the court doing nothing but hustling with energy...he had his skill: shot-blocking, the mid-range game, some nice offensive moves. Turiaf was not a bad player. I'd love it if he came back.
