nobody, every artist is gonna have to do their own thing because Tupac didn't really rep the West Coast, he was really a guy from the East coast he had flow and stood out on the West Coast, he made some cool west coast songs though in homeage to his new home, but he wasn't really a west coaster, there wasn't even west coast artist in his group Outlaws they were all from his hometown (the east coast), and Tupac always, i repeat always wore his timberland boots, but as far as real west coast people
i would say Snoop Dog led the coast.

but every artist got to do they own thing, and not be followers, or you just gonna have a bunch of follower artist.  Everybody just got to bring their own interpretation of hip hop to the table.

Yeah but it was not like Pac just moved to the west a couple of weeks before dropping music. He lived in Marin City/Oakland for a while. 17 or 18 he has when he moved there. Pac repped the west as much if not more then Snoop or Cube or anyone else out here that was repping it hard.

when he was 18 bout to turn 19, and that means he was completely raised in New york and baltimore, hence his rap style...no??? lol
you are a man at 18, im not hating, i love east coast rap, but im just saying this is the reason he stood out and "lead" west coast rap, because he was from were rap is from, he was a straight professional in hip hop, when the west coast was still warming up to it, you know what im saying

plus he was living in New York, the whole time he was in cali he frequently went back for 2 - 3 months at a time, of course death row wouldn't tell you that, but were you think he met outlaws, just randomly, these were his real friends, and him and biggie were homies! Biggie used to sleep at Tupacs NYC house

thats why he was so disappointed that he got shot on the East Coast, he felt betrayed, because he was getting so much love in his second home, and when he went back to his real home he was sabatage, but the truth of the matter is, NY dudes do that to they own everyday, nothing had changed, u know

peace
you are wrong about 2pac living in east coast  most of his rap career. 2pac lived in west coast most of time untill right before he made me against the world. 2pac was part of digital underground & stayied mostly in west coast when he was a part of D.U.so 2pac did not have east coast home until after strickly 4 my niggaz. the outalwz were his childhood friends . they all moved out to west coast with 2pac. i am expert on 2pac .

Ice Cube

do you really think so?

Yeah, he has been doing it for years. Snoop even said it at the height of his career. Cube & WSC had the WORLD throwing up the W, Snoop has been more the King for a while, but man Cube made you want to be from the west, have pride in the west. He does not speak out as much as he used to, but him and Pac were like the aggresive voice of the coast. Shame that Pac thought Cube was riding on his coattails back then because they both were on the same page.

but we're talking about the present and the future right?
sure Cube has his independent label, but he's only focusing on a few artists, he's not planning to build some sort of powerhouse  ;)

off course some one can be looked at as a leader, from so many different angles.

by the way, i'm getting tired of the perception that the 'west coast' is a team that competes against other regions/states whatever ( as a response to the first post and to similar posts/comments)

Oh no doubt, times have changed. But I still think Cube has the opportunity to be a leader because really since Pac only a few have stepped up and taken that title. Really outside of the work Snoop did with Doggystyle there has not been a label to really step forward and showcase talent. I don't know what Cube has up his sleeves but WC albums I am sure will not be the only thing coming from him. And if that WSC album ever comes out soon, he has got to be in the running for it.

yeah Cube has the tools  ;)

thats a lie homie, he was frequently going back in forth even though he fucked with Digital Underground, this is a fact, ask his MOTHER and READ WHAT SHE SAYS, FUCK TELEVISION AND WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO BELIEVE, TALK TO THE LADY WHO SENT HIM LOL..

and matter fact the niggah even lived there when he was filming above the rim, New York City was Tupacs home, you're trying to argue with me on that? seriously? damn, you're weird if you didn't know that, i mean how many native LA people wear timberland boots everyday...like how pac did.

Pac also lived in one of the worst cities in America, Baltimore. aka Body More! or what he called "Ignorant town", which is similar in culture to Philadelphia more than to New York eventhough its on the East, New York is real fast, and Baltimore is more laid back , and more grimey like Philly.

There is too much fuckin hate and jealousy from artist and towards artist  I never thought i would be saying this shit but west coast hip hop is almost non existant on a commercial level.  We are headed back to the underground which could be good musically, but sales, radio play and video exposure we are fucked. >:(
