Paul McCartney: The Un-Janet

Let's hope there's no boob action this time around--people could really be scarred.

Geriatric rocker Paul McCartney has been tapped to headline the halftime show of Fox's telecast of Super Bowl XXXIX.

"There's nothing bigger then being asked to perform at the Super Bowl," McCartney says in a statement. "We're looking forward to rocking the millions at home and in the stadium."

And, most importantly, Macca vows to keep his shirt on.

"We are extremely pleased to work again with Paul McCartney, one of the greatest musicians of our time, to create a memorable show," says Steve Bornstein, the NFL's executive vice president of media and the guy overseeing the festivities. "As one of the world's most beloved artists and incomparable live entertainers, Paul McCartney will deliver an inspirational performance."

In other words, the Cute Beatle's no Janet Jackson and there's no chance of a repeat of what happened on Feb. 1, when Justin Timberlake rocked Jackson's body a little too hard for some ill-prepared viewers. The split-second wardrobe malfunction, witnessed by some 90 million Super Bowl watchers, resulted in $550,000 in FCC fines against CBS affiliates (the network and its stations are contesting the penalties) and touched off a period of national hand-wringing--and censorship.

While it remains to be seen how inspirational his performance will be, McCartney most certainly will deliver a family-friendly set free of nipple guards, gratuitous crotch-grabbing and scantily clad back-up singers that marked the MTV-produced halftime show this year, which, in addition to the Janet-Jackson peep show, featured performances by Kid Rock, Nelly and P. Diddy.

The 2005 game will take place Feb. 6 at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, and be broadcast to more than 200 countries worldwide. The halftime show, officially dubbed the "Ameriquest Mortgage Super Bowl XXXIX Halftime Show starring Paul McCartney," will be helmed by Emmy-winning producer Don Mischer, a veteran of dozens of G-rated award and variety shows.

It will mark the "Silly Love Song" slinger's second Super Bowl appearance. He also sang in the pregame show in New Orleans in 2002.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

Janet's titty > the super bowl

That was one of the best Superbowls ever. Sorry but not even naked Janet could top it.

As for McCartney being the half time show; I guess they're trying to go as far away drom last year as possible. If Frank Sinatra was still alive they probably would have called him. At least there'll be actual singing this year. Not that I don't like McCartney, I just don't associate him with the Superbowl, even though he's been there before. Then again, if he brings Ringo, and Clapton and performs "Get Back", I'll change my mind onthe matter. No Wings stuff, except maybe Band On THe Run.
