Baby Talks Lil Wayne’s "Rebirth"

(the silly statement is in bold)

When rumors first surfaced back in January about Lil Wayne’s plan to release a rock album called Rebirth (Cash Money/Universal), a collective wave of WTF? quickly spread over the Internet. After all, Wayne’s sixth solo album Tha Carter III (Cash Money/Universal, 2008) was last year’s highest-selling rap album and easily one of the year’s high points for most rap fans. But, fear not: According to Bryan “Baby” Williams, Wayne’s mentor and father figure, as well as Cash Money Records co-CEO, the new album is less about Wayne going rock and more about him experimenting and growing as an artist.

“It’s not a rock record,” Baby told VIBE recently during an exclusive interview. “That’s what I think people are getting misunderstood. When you speaking about a rock record, you think he’s got a guitar and everything, but it’s not that. It’s going to be some of those types of beats, but it’s just great music. I don’t think no artist can do what he about to get done. My son is a rock star.”

Wayne’s first foray into the world of rock certainly sounds like he’s trying to switch up his sound. In January, he released Rebirth’s first official single, “Prom Queen,” which peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100. Two weeks ago, he unleashed “Hot Revolver,” the album’s second single, which has climbed as high as #33 on the Hot 100. And just last week, a video emerged of Wayne, who has been attempting to learn to play the guitar for several years now, strumming along to a recording of “Prom Queen.” (Watch below) Still, Baby insists, he hasn’t lost his love for rap music.

“He can rap, he can sing, he’s just an artist,” he says. “I don’t think no one will ever be greater [than Wayne] because I don’t think no one puts in the time or the quality. If someone do come along, can you imagine what he’ll have to do? He got to put out on thousand mixtapes, do a thousand records [and] sell 100 million records. 2Pac, Jay-Z and Biggie didn’t get to the shit Wayne’s done.”

Originally slated for an April release, Rebirth is now scheduled to drop on June 16. In related news, Baby’s fourth solo album Priceless (Cash Money/Universal) will also drop in June. The lead single from that album, “Always Strapped,” features Lil Wayne and is currently available on iTunes.

from the sohh blog:

Here's my two cents.

Number one, Pac and Biggie died before their time.

Better than Hov? If you say so.

Moving on to the real reason behind this corny claim.

I can't say that Baby just wants publicity and that he doesn't reaaaaaaally feel this way about Lil Wayne. He means it. After all, he says he raised Lil Wayne. And apparently he did much more for Lil Wayne than that. They kiss, and all that other outlandish sh*t. I mean... I would expect this. He's like a proud (pedo) dad watching his only son that made it.

This is stupidity. But I'm not shocked. Especially after hearing Baby come out and say on stage (at 1:32) "I f*ck with n*ggas too!" {watch}. Then Juvenile tries to laugh it off. Needless to say, Baby was very drunk or high off of something when he announced this and didn't care. And at 1:47, "I need dude right there! Him right there!" (Juvenile laughs it off).

And he keeps on. "With the blue hat on."

Oh man.

I thought this alternative lifestyle Diddy sh*t was out there. It's even a well-known fact that many of these rappers are homo, even though we don't quite know which ones. But Baby? At least he's not on the low. Which explains his undying affection for Lil Wayne. Which explains this stupid statement. Which is why I'll let it roll off my back.

“The rock shit just comes from what my life is now,” Wayne, 26, says. “I’ve grown into this person.” He released his first album, 1999’s Tha Block Is Hot, when he was only 17, and built his name on being the busiest rapper in the game, dropping a relentless stream of mixtapes and cameos. (Revisit Weezy’s journey from kid MC to superstar, in photos.) But aside from plucking at electric guitars onstage and in videos, Weezy never let on that his rap career could take such a significant detour. Describing a wild night when he woke up in bed with three or four women he couldn’t name, Wayne reveals he had an epiphany. “I just got — I’m not going to say ’so good’ at what I was doing, but it became such a regularity for me that I got tired of it. And then I said, ‘You know what? I’m not going to rap on this one.’ “

Binelli follows Wayne from his posh Atlanta apartment to a club showcase where the MC checks out talent for his Young Money imprint to the studio — Wayne’s home away from home — where the superstar puffs his ever-present blunts and plays some Rebirth songs that recall vintage Beastie Boys and current emo, topped by Weezy’s Auto Tuned warbling. Wayne tells Binelli he knew he didn’t have raw vocal talent, but he dedicated himself to learning how to make his singing voice sound good on record. “I don’t want to be the best rapper in the world. Not now,” he says. “I want to be the best. Period. Now. My favorite rapper hasn’t done what I’m doing.”

Amen +1.  I know I do like go DJ, but that was before he started sounding terrible.  There were some other songs I like but its between 1999 & 2004.
