Just finished season 3 of the Wire

Holy shit what a season!!  This is how I personally rate them so far,  Season 3>1>2

All 3 seasons have been amazing though.  I was in shock to see what happened at the end of season 3 with String and Avon, fuckin crazy

I have a feeling most people only watch this show because of the black street thugs and to them it's like they're favourite rap album on screen. And rate the seasons based on how cool the thug scenes are.

The beauty of this show is not the twists and turns of the plot, or the action, or the drama. It is the examination of the modern city and everything that plagues it, and based on that seasons 3 and 5 are the worst of the bunch.

I agree with season 3 being the best out of the 5.

As for Shallow's statement, it's somewhat true.. but it depends if you're looking strictly for realism in a series, or if you're inclined towards accepting that "reality" can be dramatized or overstated, for dramatic effect & entertainment purposes. I had no problem with that in season 3, it's not like it was Die Hard unbelievable.. and reality might be unbelievable in itself some times, so your own view on reality is a factor.

i liked season 1 and 4 the most, both for different reasons.

but it was all outstanding. season 5 would be the weakest link.

It wasn't horrible by any means. Season 5 was, but season 3 was still pretty decent. I didn't have a huge problem with Hamsterdam. After seeing the way they handled the Omar/Mouzone feud in season 2 I was expecting a little more theatrics. But even story wise, season 3 was just cut and dry plot stuff in parts.

1, 2, and 4 are tied as the best seasons, then 3 a bit behind, and 5 doesn't exist in my world.

The regular newspaper stuff was excellent. The Scott character and story was too much, but the rest was magnificent. Everything else about the season was trash, expect for the Clay Davis story. That was great, just rushed.

Always liked the first season the best but the 3rd season is my second favorite. I need to watch this show again soon.

season 4 by far the best, in my opinion. but my fave series of all time.
