Can and Will Death Row ever be the powerhouse it was?
« on: August 21, 2003, 06:46:32 AM »
Just wondered what you thought.

I Think a Kurupt or Danny Boy album is a must because the new era of Murder Inc/Mixtape collabo's are not cutting it for me.

Kurupt could open the door for Crooked I to.

Tha Row has some hopes of being a successful label again but IMO they will never be the power or hold the clout that they once were/did...

To me it breaks it down like this -

There are certain things that made Death Row what it was in its heyday. They were:

Dr Dre - his production, guidence and status as a figurehead for the label circa The Chronic.

Snoop Doggy Dogg - the most charasmatic rapper of the early-to-mid 90s. Remember those times when every time you heard him drop a verse it was exciting?

G-funk - Okay, okay. Above The Law laid the blueprint. And Warren made it his own. But Dre perfected it, especially on Doggystyle. Death Row was G-funk back there.

Tupac - Death Row incarnate for a year and some change. Repped it harder than any other inmate bar none, including founding members.

A sense of being more than just a label - In a good way. Death Row used to be a movement - you felt there would be nothing the label couldn't accomplish.

Now there's none of it as far as I can see. It no longer has the calibre of artist, production or image that made it great. It can release as many albums as it wants, but even if it gave us, say, three solid solo albums from Crooked, Kurupt and Eastwood, you can't tell me that it will mean as much to any of you as The Chronic, Doggystyle, Dogg Food, AEOM and Murder Was The Case.

Don't want to sound like I'm hating on Suge, but... nah, fuck it, I am.  ;)

No fuckin' way. They've got talent there, but nothing like back in the day. Plus, Suge's always in trouble and they owe mad cash every which way.

Absolutely NOT !!
Suge is on borrowed time right now...His label is afloat because of 2Pac material;
That's why Suge is Reissuing 2Pac(The Best of)...PAC Music keeps the Everyday
Bills Paid (That's IT)...Time has ran its course with that  Label...

If Suge was going to Drop a Crooked I Album, it would have already seen the light
of day...Talent wise, it's a shame that he's wasting valuable talent on that label and
don't know what to do with it...Bullying People now a days don't sell records...Talent
does

no and the reason why is.....they don't have dre

funny how every lable he's been on BLEW the fuck up

ruthless was the number 1 lable, then dre left  and made deathrow and then THAT became the number 1 lable. then dre left deathrow......made aftermath, stumbled at first but he managed to eclipse even deathrow at it's peek.

also people are DONE with gangsta rap. and all deathrow is doing these days is trying to replicate what happened in the past .....which people are done with. that's why snoop is able to last cuz he's grown. that's why dre is still around cuz he's grown . but DR is still stuck in the same mind set they were in 96-97 they're like the florida marlins
