Paul Pierce vs Larry Bird
« on: April 21, 2004, 08:13:00 PM »
I visited my old high school the other day and heard some kids engaged in a discussion about basket ball. One kid was raving on how Bird sucked and was over rated in the media bacause he is white. This is clearly bullshit, but what really triggered me into jumping into the argument was when the kid said Pierce is better than Bird ever was, and then a whole bunch more of these stupid kids, stupid being the key word, agreed with him.

Now I don't follow the NBA like I used to, but does any one actually feel this way, with regards to Bird sized up against Pierce? keep in mind the major point argued by the kids at the high school was that Bird couldn't dunk.

of course that's bs. everybody knows that. bird was the best shooter of his time. if you go by type of player, pierce isnt even good to compare with bird. only thing is they both play(ed) for the celtics. bird got how many rings? pierce can be glad if he gets his team into the playoffs.

LOL peep this and choke:
Played 13 seasons in the NBA, all with the Celtics, from 1979-80 through 1991-92...Helped to lead the Celtics to three NBA world championship titles in 1981, 1984 and 1986...Was the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 1984 and 1986...Was the NBA Most Valuable Player for three consecutive seasons from 1984 through 1986...Was the 1980 NBA Rookie of the Year...Was NBA All-Rookie team member in 1980...Was a All-NBA first team member nine straight seasons from 1980 through 1988...Was All-NBA second team in 1990... Was NBA All-Defensive second team three straight years from 1982 through 1984...Was a 12-time NBA All-Star and was the NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player in 1982...Was the NBA All-Star Game Long Distance Shootout winner three consecutive years 1986, 1987 and 1988...Was named One of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996...Led the Celtics in minutes played and points eight seasons, including seven straight from 1979-80 through 1985-86...Currently ranks 1st in all-time Celtics history in Free Throw Percentage at .886; 2nd in Points (behind John Havlicek) with 21,791 and 3rd in Assists (behind Bob Cousy and Havlicek) with 5,695...Elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998.

I would have killed the kids right then and there if I'da heard this discussion :)

Paul Pierce isn't even worthy of holding Birds jock. Overrated because of his skin color or not... My alltime favorite player, and person who I think had the best all around game is Magic Johnson, and he is the first person to say that Larry and Jordan are the best players he's ever seen. I think I'll go with my child hood heros arguement over some high school kids locker convo :)

Ive seen no game live, but some cuts here and there like I did with most classic players, and even if I didnt the stats are objective and I know the stats since I care

he prolly said that because Miller is an old fucker who used to have money shots, including being a 90% FT shooter and a great 3point shooter.
atm the most comparable player to Bird is probably Stojakovic.

yah, Reggie Miller. Jordan is on another level. Bird and Magic are about even (IMO), but they dont compare as far as what type of player they are. Reggie Miller compares to Bird somewhat. And if u put Miller on a type of team like Bird was playing on, imagine how much greater his career would have been? Its hard for someone who is a pure shooter, to do it alone....they need to be set-up, Bird had that, Reggie hasnt. Read what 7even said...
