I'm not arguing that money has become a large motivation behind certain players moving to lesser clubs, such as the West Ham example you raised. In this case, whether or not he is being paid more money at Valencia, the advantages of them over Everton would have meant that even if he was to be paid less, Valencia was a better move for him.
