That being said, op's claim was bold  (and his posts are nonsensical and a bad look overall) and mainstream rap nowadays in France is a shell of its former self. anyway I get that it doesn't interest americans, and non-french speakers, makes perfect sense. French language isn't the fittest for rap music, as far as syllables and sounds are concerned, so if you don't understand shit you're not gonna be interested, probably not.

French were pioneers in rap though, so French rap has a relevance to the hip hop culture in general. Sophie Bramly was the first Yo MTV Raps host ever, go ask Fab 5 Freddie. Look it up. there was a Yo MTV Raps in Europe before America could rationally think of broadcasting a rap show on television. that's where they got their inspiration from. There also was a Hip-Hop show on national television in France "before MTV put Run DMC on the telly". Don't mistake French rap for a caricature of rap full of wannabe's and wiggers with no substance. It has its own identity, and it once was very relevant for its social commentary and the showcasing of the social (and sometimes racial) issues of France that otherwise would have been overlooked. but you wouldn't know and care and I understand that. same way I wouldn't listen to Finnish rap on a whim.

Rohff is a disgrace lol. however, he does have classics under his belt. Le code de l'honneur is a very good album with powerful songs. He has a slew of classics tracks with deep and meaningful content. (among all the unnecessary bragadoccio and wack party type songs).
