 Its the first true mario adventure platformer game since mario 64 (10 years ago), some say its the true sequel to arguably one of the best games ever.You go around to different galaxies and collect stars, there are 120 stars to collect just like in mario 64, theres all new mario powers like ice mario and spring mario etc.  It takes platforming to the next level and is just a sick game. It recently got the overall game of the year award on gamespot.com, its the type of game ppl will be talking about 10 years from now. If you got a wii go buy it.
