World at War is...
« on: November 27, 2008, 06:28:51 AM »
... probably the most tedious shooter I've ever played. I'm talking about the single-player story mode here, not the multiplayer. I've rarely felt so much like I'm just labouring through a game simply for the sake of completing it. After Modern Warfare, what a disappointment.

There hasn't been one 'wow' moment so far, whereas in the previous game there was one jaw-dropping set piece seeminglyevery other level.  It doesn't help that the enemy AI is so dumb. Half the time enemy soldiers are just standing around doing nothing, to the point that I can run up to them and knife them before they even attempt to shoot me.

I'm on the Private Miller mission where you storm some castle and have to blow up some mortar pits. Will someone please tell me how close I am to the end?

If you just want a standard shooter, you'll probably be fine with it. But when you put it next to Modern Warfare, which I thought was one of the most astounding games I've ever played, it pales in comparison. You can sense that the developers have taken what made Modern Warfare so great and figured 'hell, we can just put something similar to this level in here', but completely failed to understand the little touches and sense of drama that made that game what it was.

Like I said, I don't play this online, and I know that's the big draw of CoD for most people. So if you're getting it for the multiplayer angle, ignore my post. But I'm interested to know if anyone else feels like the story mode is more of a chore than a joy to play...

yall need to stop buying games just for their reputations and get a little informed about it. Don't be like the 20 millions who bought a wii and 2 months later it's taking dirt in a forbidden dark corner of the living room

The best part about this game from what ive heard is the Zombie mode. You can play online with friends while WW1 Zombies are after you....Ive seen clips of this mode and its looks damm good...Im thinking about getting this game strictly for the Zombie mode...Who dosent want to go kill some WW1 Zombies with flame throwers and machine guns online with some friends?

thats a good question, who wouldnt? ;D

but know, you have the beat the single player campaign mode in order to play zombie mode OR if one of your freinds has already beaten the single player campagin mode, he can get you in...
