year of great expectations or big dissapointments?
« on: November 25, 2002, 02:53:36 PM »
yo well everything the west has threw at us this year, n sum east n south shit, we wasl hyped up for alot of it n like when they came out, we were real dissapointed, like damn this shits wack or wat the fuck he tryna sound like etc.........so whats its gonna be? a year where we jus expected to much or the rappers really did fail?

i personally feel rappers dissapointed this year........................to much emphasis was put on the producers n the beat instead of rappers actually killin a track instead no matter what the beat was like..........what about y'all?

peace

Disapointments...

"Under Tha Infuence" - Just wasn't as tight as I expected to be...B+O was better

"Truthfully Speaking" - I thought this was gonna be much better, still a good album though

"Welcome To The House" - Same ol same ol

"Man vs. Machine" - Didn't exceed "Restless"

"Paid Tha Cost..." - Weak

What can I say...the West pretty much let me down this year.  The stuff I've felt has either been Eminem or other genres of music.

So far I got :

Nas - The Lost Tapes
Scarface - The Fix
I.N.I. - Center Of Attention
Non Phixion - The Future Is Now
Devin The Dude - Just Tryin' Ta Live
Eminem - The Eminem Show
Daz Dillinger - This Is The Life I Lead
The Beatnuts - The Originators
8 Mile - OST

Ras Kass - Van Gogh (bootleg)

I also got Canibus, Xzibit, Onyx, Tha Dogg Pound & Erick Sermon on my computer and will probably get them soon.  Plus I'll get Gza, Nas, Royce, 2Pac, Snoop (first time since Doggystyle didn't get it right away) before the end of the year.  I probably forgot something but this year will end up a lot better than I thought.  Couple of disappointments but not really more than any other year.

Yup, and personally I would add:

W.C. - Nothing more than a Battlecat leftover-beats album IMO, with a few dope cuts. Calling this a Westcoast classic or even near classic is a offense.

Onyx - A few dope cuts with lotsa filler

Erick Sermon - Hoped that it would be better than the nice "Music", but it's wack. 2-3 dope/ok joints.

Busta Rhymes - "Genesis" was awesome compared to this dance-cd

2Pac - Genius first single, but the rest is pretty much what I feared - leftovers aka trash.

Shade Sheist - When the hype has died down, it comes down to 3-4 dope cuts and some good ones.

Tray Deee - A solid effort from Tray Deee, but some others fucks it up.
Hopefully just a taster of the Tray Deee solo album.

Dope CD's

Devin the Dude - A dope CD, and something different than the gangbangsta-shit..

Jay-Z - Yes there was some fillers, but none the less a dope CD

Scarface - No classic, but it was almost as good as "The Last of a dying..". Solid effort..

8 Mile ost - The best soundtrack in a long while

Nas "The lost tapes" - A solid CD, but too much leftovers..

Man I feel ya 100% Lyrical G...

I've been hella disappointed with CD's this year.  DJ Quik was decent, but not as good as I thought it would be.  The Xzibit really disappointed me.  Snoop's album is garbage and 2Pac's new one sounds like it was produced all in one day by the same person.  Jay Z's album was disappointing as well.  Bone Thugs was a let-down.  Damn man, I've been looking forward to the new Nas album, but at the rate things are going...

Shit, I only bumped Devin for about a week too.  Dam..a lot of shit I thought would be very tight, cause they took so long to drop, i.e. Truth & Devin were actually average.

jus a couple major's..
H.H. Cd'z I bought and only bumped once...2002

Daz Dillinger "This life I lead"
Ja Rule "The last temptation"
Eminem "The Eminem show"
Jay-Z "Blueprint 2"
Irv Gotti present's...the remixes
And right now it look's like disc 1 on "Better dayz" will never get another spin in my box ever again.

Shitt still gettin' spin's...2002

Jay-Z & R Kelly "Best of both worlds"
Doggystyle allstars "Welcome to the house"
Nas "The lost tapes"
Scarface "The fix"
"Better dayz" {Disc 2}
8-mile OsT

Alot of dope stuff on paper...but when released us fan's expect way to fucken much. {I do}
But I can say that this music shitt is getting worse in all genre's.
harldly any straight through music left...
cd's we can enjoy from track one to the end.

This year has been the worst year in a while but next year sounds like it will easily make up for it:
Rakim - Oh My God
Ras Kass - Van Gogh
Defari - Odds & Evens
GangStarr - Ownerz
Pharoahe Monch - The Sun Will Rise (or whatever it's called)
Phil Da Agony - Phillharmonics
Evidence & Rakaa solo albums
Dr Dre - Detox (Maybe)
Krondon - dunno what its called
King Tee - Whatever it's now called
Tash - new solo
Inspeckta Deck & Gza joint album (best emcees in Wu-Tang)

Damn that list alone got me creaming in my pants. Twice.
Charlie, lost his life right in front of the party...

Right...nuthin but alot of dissapointments..Daz was probably my favorite, along with DJ Quik and WC...those 3 were decent, I mean Under The INfluence was a pretty good album but I was kinda disapointed for some reason, I dont know why but it wasnt the Quik we all loved. Was it the Dre production influence? I dont know.

All the other major albums were average, like Man vs Machine, Generals List, Welcome to the house..sure there were some cool underground albums, but most of the time we had albums with 2 or 3 good tracks, rest average and WAY too many fillers.

so we can only hope that theres gonna be someone whos gonna bring something new to the table, so I dont expect much anymore. id say albums with less guest appearances and more west coast influenced beats
