I'll say this, though.... either

"Here, There, and Everywhere" by the beatles, written by Paul McCartney, or

"My Life" by the beatles, written by John Lennon

would stand at #1 on my list of the greatest songs of all time.  Peace~

Aright...here are my 100 greatest, these are songs that are most special to me, mostly for personal reasons.  So if you look @ this list and scratch your head, don't worry..I have reasons of my own for each of these songs.  My top 25 are pretty accurate, then stuff may be a lil off, but I tried.  Also, I suggest you guys to peep a lot of these songs, cause they are great songs.

You may also ask why aren't there a lot of hip-hop/west coast songs?  Well, I picked the songs that I can relate to personally, so you won't see much gangbanging stuff on here.  I pick music that I feel connected with, and that I've somewhat experienced throughout my life.

9.  Forgot About Dre - Dr. Dre
8.  Been A Long Time - TQ
7.  You Are - Bilal
6.  Countdown - Lindsey Buckingham

5.  Big Love (acoustic) - Lindsey Buckingham
This is the greatest acoustic performance ever; done by one man on one guitar.  It doesn't get much better than this.  It's raw and filled with emotion.  You can almost get the full impact of the story from the guitar playing.

4.  Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
I'm sure you guys know this song.  This song is from the 70s, and it is considered one of the greatest songs of all time.  The song is about doing your own thing etc.  I grew up hearing this song so blame it on my father, lol.  Their is a roaring guitar solo at the end that carries on which I like.

3.  The Light - Common
A positive song.  Common's lover letter is beautifully constructed and it fits right into the hook.  Song is about having someone to fall back on when you got troubles in your life.

2.  Red Rover - Lindsey Buckingham
A very mysterious song, that I've just recently started to understand.  This is a song about childhood, and the changes that come as you get older.  It's a meloncholy track...and it has a very unique beat, that features something that has the same effect as a drum.  It is basically a new invention and has never been used before.  The hasn't been officially released yet either, so no one here prolly knows about it.  Anyway, the song stirs up a lot of emotions etc etc.

1.  Fields Of Gold - Sting
The best moments of my life have been during the summertime.  This song is about summer and love.  It is a great song, that features a simple, yet beautiful nylon stringed guitar solo.  Everytime I listen to this song it brings me back to a certain part of summer.  It helps me remember great memories that I have.  Without it I prolly would forget a lot of those moments, becuase when they were happening I was constantly listening to this song.

18. Real Niggaz Don't Die-N.W.A
17. Nuthin but a G thang-Dr. Dre
16. Bombs Over Baghdad-Outkast

15. Laya- Derek and the Dominos

man i just love the riffs and solos here , it's just one of those songs where you just step back and say WOW someone was ON ONE when those notes flowed through his fingers ....this song is actually a love song for George Harrison's wife ....from his good friend Eric Clapton , also the end piao exit is the theme song to Goodfellas the movie

14. Stairway to Heaven- Led Zeppelin

considered as the alltime greatest rock song and one of the greatest constructed works of music....layla to the 10th power

13. Fade to Black-Metallica

yeah another metallica joint....but hey anyone that knows their catelouge knows that this is one of their definative songs ...yeah this song is about suicide , but really i think this song is a song of hope....the solo by kirk for some reason or another just eliminates any thought of doing such thing.....really helped me through a rough time a few years back  and one of those song's that impresses people when you bust it out on the guitar

12. Don't Speak-No Doubt

i don't usually use the lords name in vein but GOOOOOD damn this song is oooooooooooweeeeeeeee. Gwen stefani really put heart into this. anyone who's  ever been in a tough break up...and i'm talking TOUGH can relate to this joint, especially me and a break up that still effects me to this day

11. Under the Bridge-Red Hot Chili Peppers

it's not that i can relate to this song (i've never done heroine under an LA bridge or period for that matter)....i just like it alot..lol simple as that

10. Hell's Bells-AC/DC

THIS is heavy metal at it's purist!

9. No More Tears-Ozzy Ousbourne

i'm a sucker for long epic structured songs, what can i say  ;D

8. Nothing Else Matters-Metallica

like "don't speak" i like this song for all the same reasons, deep song, theraputic, and DAMN good

7. Dream On-Aerosmith

This is the ultimate power balad yo, also the best performance by any male vocalist.

6. Deeeez Nuuuuts-Dr. Dre ft. Daz, Snoop, and Nate Dogg

there never has been, there is none, and there never will be a better rap beat than this. P-E-R-I-O-D point blank

5. Voodoo Chile (slight return)-Jimi Hendrix

i smile when i think of this song it's just so funky, so jazzy, so trippy, so groovy, and displays why...my homie jimi was the best guitarist ever the begining is just pure gold

4. When the Levee Breaks-Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin will always be known for Stairway by the casual listeners out there, but most true fans know that THIS is them at their pinnocule. John bonnum's drumming is just mouth watering and spine tingling and is the basses for all rap drum lines, plus jimmy Page lays the smack down with is psychodelic guitaring, and that somber country fried harmonica just takes this song from being classic to timeless

3. Freebird-Lynard Skynard

this is one of those dreamy songs that represents all the freedoms i have/had/and will have in life, plus the guitar solo here is only eclipsed by one perticular song...hmm i wonder what song that could be...

2. November Rain-Guns 'N' Roses

like i said earlier i'm a sucker for epic structures of music ....but what pushes this song over the top here is the lines i can relate to "dont you know you need some time on your own everybody needs some time on their own" ~~i like having my privacy and it doesn't bother me if i'm alone  then the final line " everybody needs someone"~~yeah i like being by myself ....but on the other hand i don't want to die alone , i definately want a wife to share my life with ....i can totally relate to the message here

but the # 1 song ever in my book is......

1.!!!!! ONE ~~~ METALLICA!!!!!!

yep that's right

the best intro to a song
the best concept for a song
the best climax to a song
the best guitar solo in a song
the best [modern day] structed song
the best outro to a song
one of the best videos for a song

just simply the best damn song

everything here is perfect i mean damn theres nothing more i got to say the song speaks for itself  i mean what else could be #1 than the song one

Yeah Don, we all got different musical tastes of course, but I at least respect every song on your list.  My list wouldn't be quite that heavy though, i'm not into Metallica/Pantera etc. too much.  My favorite Metallica song is "Sad But True" I saw em live and man, it was HYPED.  This big drunk two seats over grabbed my arm and was like ITS SAD BUT TRUE MANNNN!!!! and when he let go, blood was pouring down my arm, LOL.

I'm not big on the hard stuff like Metallica & Nirvana either.  I go for the cool, mellow tunes most of the time.
