Gangsta Rap is a commercial phenomen. Since its creation. Enjoy the music and stop searching for the "real" and the "fake", because there is no "real", it's just an image thing.

first off "hip hop" and "gangsta rap" are two completely different things.  Hip Hop was created in NYC in the early 1970s.

Gangsta Rap was created in the early/mid 1980s and NWA didn't get involved until 1986 or 87

I don't think Ice Cube iwas sayimg he created gangsta rap.  He is trying to imply that he is the one who made it popular.  After N.W.A. came out everyone had to do gangsta rap if they wanted to sell records.
